Kyrie has also shown he might play in and give a real effort in upwards 50% of games played in a season! The Lakers need inning eaters almost, if not more, than another scorer who is going to load manage half the season.
This is my take. The shot was 7 seasons ago. Kyrie has played on talented teams all of those years and there is little evidence he had this monster impact his fans think in the years he actually played. And in other seasons he was outright harmful.
His rep far outweighs his on court play.
Yep, he played one great series in the finals playing alongside prime Lebron James who was the absolute best teammate to play with. What has he won anywhere else and how does a team with Luka and Irving not even make a play in game?
A few things come into play with Kyrie:
1. His talents are all concentrated in the things fans overvalue. His weaknesses are concentrated in the areas fans tend to undervalue.
2. He had a historic moment that still influences how people see him.
3. He's played with talented players almost his entire career given him the opportunity to play in a ton of playoff games.
All of the above would cause him to be overvalued. When you factor in his utter lack of professionalism you have a player that will get really overvalued.
