First reaction:

Winger has enough of a reputation that he'll be the clear leader of the organization. That's a big positive. He's the boss. He'll have Ted's ear.

He has an interesting background, law degree and early work for a sports agent. Not at all a quant, but he's probably seen the utility of modern player evaluation tools.

He's a completely fresh face who has worked in successful organizations.

He's dealt with a ton of star players successfully.

Was Winger at the end of his contract with The Clippers or did he ask to leave? Winger attended Law School at UMBC, so he returns to the East Coast. Welcome Aboard

I do know that Minnesota wanted Winger in 2019 and he didn't want to move. Time will tell, but at least Ted made the move before Memorial Day and next week, he can start interviewing and evaluating players.

Seems solid. Checks a bunch of boxes. Not in house. Youngish. Sam Presti tree. Will also hire a GM. Preliminarily, I like it.

I also like that he’ll oversee the Mystics. They won a ‘chip because EDD fell into their lap. But they’ve squandered a ton of assets, passed on a legit stud in Rhyne Howard, and had the GM hire his own son as coach. Bush league.

Well, hold your horses. The proof will be in the pudding…namely how much freedom Mike Winger is given and (in that case) how well he performs.
