I thought McDaniels was a perfect play against Boston with his length and athleticism. In fact, two of his best games as a pro were against both Milwaukee and Boston. He made some quick mistakes when he did play earlier in the series and then got cooked a couple of times by Brown and Tatum. A couple of stupid fouls and a not making any plays on offense has been his problem. Boston defends so well when they want to and a player like McDaniels isn't going to offer much on offense against them. Still, I think he should be worth a dart throw if Brown or Tatum get hot in game 7. Same with House.
In fact Niang, House, and McDaniels are all basically dart throws at this point. It's a juggling act I wouldn't want to have as a head coach of a team. Niang is a big time shot maker and he's fearless in taking them, but when he misses, it's costs us unless he's somehow making plays on defense. House is a friggin Tasmanian Devil. Sometimes he can come in and wreck the game for the opposing team. He's either hit or miss. Either a big momentum shift or he's going to cost us.
McDaniels is still relatively new to what's going on. I think the team is going to want him back despite him not getting minutes in this series. We'll see...I hope they bring him back. He needs a full season with this roster and he also needs to really lock into the gym in the offseason and go to work on his three. If he can improve as a spot up shooter, he's a plug and play 3&D wing. He's 25? I think...So he's still developing and definitely has the time to improve.

His 3pt percentage isn't stellar, but it's certainly playable as a spot-up shooter.

McDaniels getting no minutes was always destined to happen. Doc is clearly a coach that needs a significant amount of time to build trust with his role players & Jalen hasn’t been here long enough. He needed to play excellent in the regular season for Doc to give him real minutes in a series like this.

Silver lining of him getting no run here is hopefully we can resign him for cheaper. Worth bringing back and developing if the price is right. He needs to lock himself in the gym taking C&S 3's all summer.

And also work on his finishing around the rim

If he's gonna do that, he needs to do a practice group with Tobias and Melton

I'd like to see McDaniels back at a reasonable price.

More than a few of us walk if Glenn is back.

Since we're above the cap, re-signing our own guys is pretty important. Otherwise, we rely on rookies and minimum-contract guys to fill out the roster.

I think he can have a role next season next to Maxey. A running mate on the break and P/R lob threat and cutter. He will have to continue to improve his 3pt shooting so he can play more with Embiid and Harden who could use his athleticism and length.

When he got here, I thought he might replace Tucker in the starting lineup eventually. I was really surprised to see him go to zero PT.

McDaniels is one of several on this roster that I wonder about the effect of a different coach and a new approach. I can't help believe that Glenn's stubbornness and rigidity had a negative impact on quite a few players here - McDaniels, House, Shake, Reed, and possibly even Maxey. Maybe a different approach with a coach with some imagination and flexibility unlocks things we haven't seen from these guys.

Sure he isn’t a reliable shooter but there is no excuse for Rivers ridiculous substitution patterns that had this guy benched. What a waste.

Sadly, you could plug a number of names in place of McDaniels that we can say the exact same thing about.

Guys like Duncan Robinson and Gabe Vincent would be banished to the doghouse for life here for a couple of bad shooting games in December.

Hey hey, hope y'all don't mind visitors. Was wondering about McDaniels; whether your FO seemed likely to prioritize bringing him back, how y'all felt about his defense when he did play...and if he's serious enough for Thibs to like him, or is he more on the goofball/airhead end of the spectrum?

As a knicks fan, I expect us to do the right thing for Toppin and trade him someplace where he can play regularly...but if we do that Randle & Barrett will be our only non-centers that are taller than 6'4"/6'5". Which is why I'm curious about McDaniels as a potential replacement who could back Randle up, as well as play next to him.

He's a SF through and through until/unless he puts some weight on his frame. He was also horrendous shooting the ball in the playoffs, but that might have been because he was wearing a Sixers jersey.

Is he just not strong enough to deal with true bigs in the paint, or do even bigger wings like Tatum push him around on the perimeter?

Cause if it's the former we could play him at the 3 and Barrett at the 4 when Randle rests, RJ lacks length there but has the strength to deal with most backup 4s and battle for rebounds.

But if it's the latter then he wouldn't really address our lack of size on the perimeter.

He can guard wings and smallers 4s due to his mixture of length and quickness . I wouldnt trust him against a natural 4 because hes a string bean. The problem with him is he's not really good at anything or maybe hasn't ironed out an nba role for himself yet. He's not exactly 3&D , He has some slashing ability but not a great finisher, doesnt draw fouls. He has solid handles for his size and his best scoring opportunity comes on the break which ofcourse the sixers weren't a fastbreak team. I still think the right coach and team can get their hands on him and make him a useful role player though as he's not exactly flawed either.

We really need to keep him. Team is starved of athletic players and he's a reliable three away from being a starter. I'd prioritize him over Niang and any other free agent besides Shake.
