I changed careers to be 100% remote, among other reasons. It's a salaried position where if we just "get the job done" we can work as little or as much is needed, at whatever time of the day. We do have meetings, some 100% mandatory due to regs, but they are scheduled far in advance.

Given my job, there's no way I could work from home, but I know for a fact that I would suck at it.

I mean, the couch and TV are RIGHT THERE.

From a work perspective, I much prefer working from home. I get more done in less time - no people dropping by my desk to shoot the **** throughout the day, no walks to get lunch or coffee or just get away for a little bit, etc. From a human being perspective, I hated it for a long time. Work was my only daily interaction with other people and I had a lot of bad days when they forced us to WFH. Now I've gotten to the point where I'm so used to it that it might feel weird going back and being around people again (which might point to other issues I have, but here we are).

I've been considering going to a different state or something for a few weeks and just recharge my battery. Scheduled a doctor appointment to see if my doctor thinks i'm getting too stressed out about work. I was on anti anxiety medication for a while, but have been doing well off of it. Starting to feel like im underwater a bit lately though.

I'm just as capable of slacking off in the office as I am at home. It's just at home I can turn that slacking off into something productive like running errands, walking the dogs, doing laundry, etc instead of just browsing random things on the internet or taking a 2 hour lunch. A bad employee is going to be a bad employee whether they're remote or not.

I say this as someone who is absolutely not a people person, but I do actually find value in collaborating on things in person and making connections with people. I think it's much easier to brainstorm and get ideas across when you are face to face with someone. But it's the mandatory in office requirement when there isn't anything going on that is a drag.

I've worked exclusively from home for the past decade and was hybrid before that. Works well for me but I can understand how it wouldn't for everyone.

On a macro level I wonder how less in person human interaction because of WFH and the internet/social media will impact society and mental health. Definitely a different world than even 20 years ago. But then again the whole 40 hours a week in an office thing is a pretty recent development in human history so it's not like we're changing some super long standing norm and there were problems with that set up too.

I started hybrid for the first time last fall. 1, sometimes 2 days a week in office.

I got off to a bad start with the WFH days, because my workspace sucked. My wife has been 100% WFH since even before Covid, so she has the prime office space. I started out at a crappy little desk in a dark corner of the basement. I would go into the office sometimes just to get out of that depressing environment. Things have gotten better since I cleared out space near an egress window and made that my workspace. I get sunshine and now that it's nice I get fresh air and can hear nature.

My employer provides a good environment to entice people to come into the building. We get 40% off at the cafeteria and free lunch once a month. There is an onsite Nurse Practitioner who can write prescriptions, handle urgent care, do physicals, etc. They are also redoing the floor plans by shrinking the cube farms and expanding the break areas for more of gathering space where you can eat, socialize, and work.

The nicest thing about WFH is not having to worry about the weather. Any kind of significant snowfall, and I am just staying home rather than adding another 30-60 minutes to my commute.

As far as productivity, it's dependent on the job and the environment. Do people abuse WFH? Yup. But I'm sure we've all seen those viral TikToks of people going to the office, hitting the smoothie bar, doing an hour of work, going to the yoga studio, doing another hour of work, getting lunch, then sitting in a few meetings before they play mini golf on the roof to end the day.

Air fryer died. We've enjoyed having a countertop one due to ease of use and not firing up the oven for things like fries. Not opposed to something big and fancy, but also not opposed to smaller/basic basket-only friers.

We have a Power XL 10 Qt with the door instead of the bucket. We used to have a bucket one, but prefer the door/rack model because things cook more evenly and you don't have to stop and shake it halfway through.

Easy cleanup too because you just throw the racks and the grease pan in the dishwasher.

I have a Ninja Foodi Grill, love it. Got it 2-3 years ago. I mostly air fry with it and some grilling.

Thanks guys. We've had good experience with Ninja products (love the Creami). Looks like they have a dual-basket fryer which is kind of appealing to me since I have food allergies, so we could isolate more easily and both use it still.

We use it for "dole whip" and it's so good. You can just dump a can of pineapple into one of the containers, freeze it, and the next day you can make a healthier (no cream) dole whip. So good. Good sorbet, too. Have hardly made ice cream at all

Just on working in an office/WFH (I have so, so many thoughts)- you may already be aware of this, but a massive part of modern office design was born out of FLW's work in (of all places- HI GERY!) Racine! There's some great articles about this if you go looking, the link below has some basic background.

I'll try to find a better one that talks about some of the design principles incorporated (I have wonderful essays on it, but all physical)- the most telling principle you see is the idea to encourage "workplace collisions". It's valuable for Jane and Bob to talk, they sit on different sides of the office- if you put the printer in a common area you increase their chance of connecting and saying "hey, what's up?".

I love this stuff way, way too much.
