The Bucks should never have fired Bud without a guarantee they'd be able to hire somebody better. I said it from the beginning when they fired Bud that they should have a specific target they know they can get.

You don't fire a top 5-10 coach in the NBA without knowing you can get someone as good or better

Nurse had 1 good run with Kawhi 4 seasons ago and realistically hasn’t done squat since. He’s won 1 playoff series since the 18-19 season. Does he not deserve to be scrutinized for that or something? League wide he’s seen as the best coach on the market but how sure of that are we really?

Nurse was fantastic in years 1,2,4 on the job. The championship season he was at his best in the playoffs. We kinda surprised everyone I felt as he didn't show a lot of stuff during the season, whereas Casey was an open book. But that 19/20 team was his best coaching season IMO. Lots of synergy and he pulled the right strings all season. We should have repeated. When he has a ferrari, he can drive it. No question. And not many coaches can for contenders. Just look at all the coaches who got fired trying to win it all.

I can tell you that Covid really impacted our organization probably moreso than everyone else. Moving to Tampa was a mess. I know this put a lot of strain on Nurse / Masai. I wouldn't put too much stock into that season. We lost a bunch of players. We decided to stealth tank for the season. It was just a difficult situation for everyone involved and kind of put our roster building in a huge flux. Last season he coached his ass off and somehow managed to get the group to 48 wins. This season it was just a case of his voice being worn out. I think he was losing focus too. Again, covid really screwed us up.

I think Nurse would be a great fit for the Bucks.

The year after Kawhi left, Nurse had the Raptors without Kawhi at 53-19 (60 win pace). And came within a few bounces going their way from the ECF. All without Kawhi.

And the Raptors have been losing talent year after year basically since their championship, I’m not holding it against Nurse that he hasn’t much playoff success with a Siakam/FVV lead team with crappy depth and basically no real center. There are questions about him but I don’t think it’s as simple as “hasn’t done squat since Kawhi”.

I do agree but didnt he win 60 games the very next year after kawhi left just throwing that out there.Every coach available has warts hell even the great coach bud has warts.
For people to say well they shouldnt of fired bud unless they have someone better in mind is nuts no one on this board knows whose better or whose worse than bud.
Be funny if all the smack talk about KA his first year as HC he gets to the ECF would that make him as good as bud or does he need to win a chip n win 60 regular season games

I totally forgot about Toronto having to play in Tampa because of the travel restrictions. That definitely deserves consideration…. But, having said that. He still has only won 1 single playoff series in 4yrs since his title year. And his title year he was carried by a buzzsaw superstar, a deep roster and a depleted Warriors team he faced in the finals. A box and 1 on Steph in the finals when KD and Klay both went down should hardly be classified as a mastermind decision.

Now I’m not trying to **** on Nurse, he’s a championship coach and has definitely had success. But taking the post Kawhi roster to almost 60 wins in the regular season and losing in the 2nd round is not exactly a beacon of hope for what the Bucks are trying to accomplish.

I’m just simply saying, for all the positive and wonderful things being thrown around here about Nurse being this world class coach, regular season success means absolutely nothing when you have a 28yr old superstar with an extension looming. Lacking playoff success in the immediate future could be a death sentence for our franchise and Nurse’s track record isn’t blemish free like everyone keeps insinuating…

Idk, I’m just not sold.

If the replacement makes 1-3 adjustments over the course of a postseason series they're a better fit for this team than Bud at this point.

If Siakam stayed in shape (as he took 3 months off which is why he sucked), we would have easily beaten Boston in that series and likely would have gotten to the finals vs LA. Nurse was very good in the series vs Boston. It was a total chess match between two of the best coaches in Brad and Nick. Theres a good youtube vid that details it all. The adjustments by both guys were insane and they had to react on the fly. It was a fun series but we for sure didn't lose it because of coaching. Siakam just shat the bed.

Tampa season was a write off as I said - no one would have been successful in that situation. Last season we had no business winning 48 games. That was all Nurse. He pushed and pushed but he somehow got there. But we just didnt have the talent last season and this season. We were a .500 club pretty much both years - can't expect to go deep in the playoffs.

He's the perfect coach when he has a stacked team to deliver and not many coaches can as we just saw.

But too many people wanted some action and many wanted to get Bud fired. They got their wish.

Yes Bud was not too good at in game adjustments but he was a very good coach overall. We lost the last 2 games because the players played poorly, simple as that.

Jrue recently accepted that he failed to stop Butler but also said nobody not even Jordan or Lebron could have defended Butler. The arrogance is unbelievable. Wes was defending Butler better than Jrue but Jrue waved him off. He wanted to show his own heroics in defense.

We might now end up with a worse coach than Bud. Does not help us with our narrowing window.

Hope we get rid of Jae; was of very little use.

If the Bucks knew the Suns and Sixers were going to can their coaches, do they move on from Bud? When they fired Bud, they had the undisputed best job available on the market by a mile. Two weeks later, and now you have folks saying that Philly and Phoenix are better gigs.

Roster makeup is why he hasn't won more than 1 playoff series. The Bud led Bucks EASILY could have still been without a finals appearance or even an ECF appearance since the Raptors series if we didn't get extremely lucky vs the Nets for injuries and luck.

I see we're back to the when we win the championship it's because of "injuries and luck" and when we don't it's because of Bud. There's a whole lot of projecting going on here

Not to mention Bud facing another coach (Monty Williams) in the finals who also doesn't make any adjustments.

The GOAT coach Spo's team got waxed the last 2 games. Where were his adjustments? That's one of the most overused and misunderstood terms in coaching. Especially here.

I’m pretty excited to see how the new coach influences roster construction. As much as we put that on Horst, it’s clearly been a very collaborative effort in the past with Bud, and I would expect that going forward with a new coach, too.

I am of the belief that Bud had to go. Even if the replacement isn’t “better” on paper. Sometimes different can unlock things with a studded roster. We needed a change, we were stagnant and predictable come playoffs where ability alone can’t win a series.

Return to Milwaukee Bucks
