Believe me I instantly thought of his opposing housing when I learned of the award. Both Kerry and Curry took drops with me as people this year

Yeah--its rough. Minnesota is trying to pass a bill preventing corporations from buying homes.

https://patch.com/minnesota/saintpaul/mn-bill-bans-corporations-buying-homes-rent-out

Investor-owners, defined as people or entities that own two or more properties they don't live in, controlled 4% of local singe-family homes at the time, a still-small figure that had managed to double since 2006, according to the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis. Yet in some locations like northeast Minneapolis, Fridley, and Hopkins, that number exceeds 25%. "[Those places] are being transformed by corporate ownership, a phenomenon that shows no signs of letting up," wrote Strib reporter Jim Buchta. Last year, Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison sued hedge fund-backed HavenBrook Homes for failing to maintain its portfolio of properties, which includes 600+ single-family homes in the Twin Cities. “They come into low-income community neighborhoods and they buy up and they buy fast,” HavenBrook tenant Shanika Henderson told the Minnesota Reformer.

Corporations buying homes isn't really an issue. It is actually a symptom of the issue. The main reason firms like BlackRock buy homes is they are banking on the housing shortage continuing.

The problem is we've made it very difficult to build homes in many of our important job centers: Boston, LA, NYC, SF, DC and a few others.

The fix we need is to make building easier. This board has a no politics rule which I'll respect. But this is a political issue and the fixes are fairly simple but they are political and there is a powerful coalition that actively works to block supply. On that note I'll end.

Would also be nice if they stopped restricting the homeless from sleeping in public places or squatters from abandoned buildings. "i feel uncomfortable" is not a legitimate reason. You are not of higher priority

Minnesota just passed a ton of new bills. You are welcome back anytime.

I'm not sure anyone has experience in this but I'll put this out there.

My girlfriend's uncle [Mexican immigrant in US] was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer about 1 year ago [March 2022]. Since then, it had been a downward spiral which resulted in us [Girlfriend and I] housing him for the past month, home hospice commencing about 10 days ago and he died passed away in our home earlier today.

As a non-religous but spiritual person, two unexplainable events happened and I will reveal one. At 11:33 AM [We have home, exterior camera's] a family from the Mormon Church came knocking on our door.

1) We have never had Mormon's knock on our door in nearly 3 years of living here.
2) They only came to our house in our suburbian neighborhood.

They said they recently had a family member die and asked if we wanted to let them in. My girlfriend said no thanks at the time as we were quite busy ourselves.

I then walked into our house a minute or two later from the backyard and my girlfriend mentioned the interaction and asked if she should ask them to pray but they may be gone. I said "yeah thats fine" [Her uncle is catholic and religious, multiple priests have been at our house in the past week] and I went outside the front door, expecting them to be at a neighboring house. To my surprise, a few minutes after they had come to our house, they were waiting in their van on the street in front of our house. I walked up to them and asked of they wanted to pray for her uncle, which they agreed to, and to my surprise they spoke Spanish.

We welcomed them into our home, into the bedroom where her uncle is staying and they prayed and then left.

Now, a few things stand out:

1) Her uncle passed away exactly 30 minutes after they originally showed up.

2) They spoke Spanish and her uncle only speaks Spanish, he speaks no English.

3) When I shook the hands of one of the men, I was greeted with eyes which were wider and larger than anyone's eyes I had ever seen. His eyes were huge.

I understand the idea that this was a random occurrence, but I can't help think about this event as some sort of otherworldly power.

I saw it a few years ago here in Minneapolis. Excellent play.

Are you staying in New York then for a week/month?

This is my old man yelling at the cloud's rant so feel free to ignore. I hate the way NBA teams wear so many jerseys. The purpose is fairly clear. Jerseys are merchandise and there is a small subset of fans who are collectors. They will buy every edition of their favorite team or player. The NBA knows this and so they wear multiple jerseys every year and release new alternates every season with some stupid name.

It sucks. When you ask fans who remember watching Michael Jordan or Magic or Bird what jersey they wore in big moments they're all going to describe the same jersey. So too with players like Duncan or Kobe who played for teams that kept their jerseys basically the same. I have no image of a Lebron, Cleveland Cavs jersey because he wore so many damn jerseys. And Lebron had one of the most iconic careers ever with Cleveland.

I'm also not sure it is in the long-term interest of teams. Yes, you do get a short-term profit boost selling to deranged jersey collectors but it comes at the cost of long-term branding. If you look at the most successful brands you'll find they avoid changing design to build relationships with customers. And I suspect the same is true in sports.

It really makes me sad when I see a team with clear team colors, such as the Celtics, move away from their colors (green/white) for the jersey collectors (black).

Rant over.

I dont know, when I picture James I picture him in dark red/yellow for the Cavs, black and red for the Heat and gold and purple for the Lakers. Isn't that their normal colors?

I don't picture Lebron in any specific jersey for Cleveland the way I do for Jordan with Chicago because they changed the colors and layout so many times.

I picture Joahkim Noah, Zach Lavine and Derrick Rose wearing the same jersey Jordan did and I would be very surprised if you didn't picture them in red myself!

Sounds like that has more to do with the Cavs as a brand which they always struggled with than alternate jerseys.

My frustration with the alternate jerseys is mainly practical: there's zero consistency. Back in the day the team wearing white (or yellow in the lakers' case) was the home team. It was just easy to identify on TV. Teams tend to wear alternate jerseys at home now which makes sense. It's an easy sell to go to the team store during/after the game if you're there.

That said, it would be only logical for the away team to wear white in all games unless it was a special day (Christmas, heritage nights, etc). If they did that I'd be totally fine with all the colored alternates the home team wears. Instead it's completely random and in many games the colors don't even contrast enough. It's flat out messy.

I enjoy watching the Knicks wear green when they play the Celtics. Not the least bit confusing!
