He didn’t have enough PT to gel with this team. I think he can be a fine role player on this team and might even warrant playoff minutes depending on how the season goes. He’d definitely be a fit with Nurse if hired.

Not really sure what to do with him, honestly. He's pretty mid across the board. Which is more that can be said about some players, who suck across the board.

the nature of the CBA forces teams to burry themselves

if McDaniels is a $8M player but gets a $12M offer, being over the cap the Sixers have to match the bad offer or be stuck trying to replace him with a minimum or smaller contract player

I don't think he's a vital/good enough piece to worry about it. Offer him what you think he's worth, and if he can get more elsewhere he walks. He's not restricted, so there's no matching decision.

I guess it depends really. Do we want to overpay for McDaniels, or pay a little bit more to get a better, more proven player? I want him back, but if some team is going to offer him stupid money, then yeah...See ya. If he does walk, it makes the Thybulle trade look incredibly pointless on our part though. I thought we traded for McDaniels with the idea of keeping him around.

Same contract, who would you rather keep: McDaniels vs Reed?

Reed in a heartbeat. I believe if a legit coach turns him loose without the leash he's had throughout his career he can become a guy that can play next to Embiid as well as being an excellent backup. The kid makes an impact when he's on the floor, makes things happen. McDaniels seems like just a guy.

I'd like to keep him. But I'd rather have Reed. Also rather have Toppin.

Definitely Paul Reed. I love his intangibles, I love his on-court impact. I think he's ITCHING to be unleashed once a coach is smart enough to give him a 25 mpg role.

Yeah, I think I agree. Reed can impact games defensively and on the boards. My god is he clueless on offense though. I guess if he could develop a corner 3 (I realize he shot well in the g league, but the coaching staff clearly didn't trust his shot, and I don't think you can just waive that off on Doc being an idiot) that would be something to do beyond the endless ball screens, which he couldn't do with Jo out there.

I like McDaniels length and athleticism, and he shows signs of being a bunch of things this team could use, he's just not actually good at any of them. Maybe if he can get stronger he's a different player, but he's needed to bulk up from the day he stepped in the league, and at 25 I'm not sure what's gonna change.

Paul Reed isn't the sharpest tool and I think the turnovers are a big reason why coaches lose patience with him. But man, if he can just protect the ball, everything else he does is great. His steals, blocks, rebounding, and field goal percentage are all really strong.

I'll waive it off on Glenn until Reed gets a real chance and proves he can't hit the corner 3 and protect the ball better without fear of the instant hook the second he makes a mistake. That's what the regular season is for, not going balls to the wall trying to pad your career win total.

Both Reed and McDaniels are the kind of guys who are wasted under Glenn, but could be unlocked with a better coach.

I’m not a huge Nick Nurse fan, but he does seem to favor lengthy, athletic interchangeable players like Reed and McDaniels. I liked those two with House in stretches, but they need to be paired with more offense and speed in the backcourt to make that work.

What I’ve seen out of him on the Sixers tells me he’s only worth the minimum.
