Trade proposals for the Rockets’ fourth pick in the 2023 NBA Draft - The Athletic

Toronto Raptors

Rockets receive: O.G. Anunoby

Raptors receive: K.J. Martin, Tari Eason, the No. 4 pick in 2023 and a 2025 first-round pick (top-six protected)

Why Houston does this: New Rockets head coach Ime Udoka is known for his defensive acumen, and Anunoby is one of the game’s most versatile and physical ball-stoppers around. From a basketball perspective, it’s a nice fit, especially for a team that wants to turn things around. Houston would have to think twice about giving up on Eason’s upside after only a year, and the Raptors likely ask for even more draft compensation. But considering Toronto’s organizational position as a team in flux, I wouldn’t consider anything off the table. Pascal Siakam was another option, but his price tag might be too high for Houston. Anunoby is on a team-friendly deal relative to his on-court impact. Less than $20 million annually? Sign me up.

Eric Koreen (Raptors beat writer): The positives: Due to the Rockets’ financial situation, the Raptors take on precious little salary, clearing things up with the rest of the roster, including their three unrestricted free agents. Eason is a nice future piece, although not necessarily a core guy. That’s obviously where the fourth-overall pick comes in, which is the complicating factor. Both Scoot Henderson and Brandon Miller make a lot more sense next to Scottie Barnes than the players who are likely to go in that 4-8 range. There are plenty of intriguing players, but bigger guards/wings with plus playmaking and questionable shooting are awkward fits. The 2025 first is nice, and nicer still if we can loosen the protections. Still, from both an age and fit perspective, Pascal Siakam makes more sense to deal than Anunoby, and the real prize for the Raptors is more likely to be found in a trade with Portland than Houston. This is a reasonable offer, and it’s something to be revisited on draft night if other things fall through. For now, it’s a no.

If houston gets harden they will want to make another splash with #4. Siakam or OG would look great next to Harden. I think they know he’s going there. This also helps our negotiations with POR.

The Rockets are super leaky right now. They told interviewing coaches they were willing to trade Green, and then that immediately got out. Now this.

They want to win. They know Harden is in the bag. He's probably picking some teammates right now and telling Houston to get it done. #4 isn't that nice a pick in this draft, imo. Masai better come back with a HAUL that includes #4, if he's interested.

Yeah this dream like trade suggestion was made by him. I should have mentioned that. One can only hope this is somehow related to something he heard and was asked to float. Though if it were it sank like a lead balloon. He’s getting absolutely killed by Rockets fans.
When will we just change the name of 25 of the 30 teams to the Washington Generals?

Please advise….

You're reaching if you're going off the board there. I would only trade up for Scoot and Miller. If both are gone I wouldn't bother. The player crop from 4-13 is pretty much in the same tier imo. All decent but flawed prospects.

But who knows with this front office anymore.

If Houston is adding Jalen Green into the mix, I'd definitely be listening. But yeah, I don't think it's worth giving up Siakam just for the 4th pick and their lesser young talent.

OG for the 4th pick and a future 1st that someone linked from a tweet in another thread? sure.

Alperen Shengooon is the one to go for. Forget about Jalen Green.

I think Siakam will have to part of the deal if Sengün is coming back (i hate it too). But I hate that deal for OG. Pretty much garbage. I personally don’t like it but if Masai has a plan, all you can do is hope for the best. If it was 4th + Sengun I’d be ecstatic but here’s to wishing.

Onto the 3rd pick…

I’m pretty sure Masai is holding out for Sharpe. There is no way I don’t see Masai get the 3rd and Sharpe for Siakam if there was a deal to be done. Portland obviously saying hell no in addition to Simons being viewed as a negative asset and a trade ballast.

But I’m sure if Siakam’s agent can confirm they’ll sign an extension in Portland, this deal will probably get done.

I wouldn't mind him either, but that would make the Poeltl trade deadline deal even more short-sighted and dumber than ever.

An STD is an STD. Doesn't matter which one.

The deal was dumb to begin with.

I think the guy they would want at 4 is exclusively Anthony Black. It makes too much sense. 6'7 player who can legitimately man the point guard position and can do everything but shoot. It would be a slap in the face of FVV who might betray Masai who has been so loyal to him replacing him with such a tall PG.

I would do OG for 5th + Duren as the main pieces coming back. Draft Ausar or Black.

It's funny. There has been some buzz about Siakam for young player + filler + pick(s).

But in every case the team in question is much better off getting OG.

I feel like the ability to sell the trade to fans is helpful in this case. If the Iko proposal for OG was for Pascal but also included Green, Rockets fans would probably swallow hard and accept it. But for OG, a non-star, just the thought of giving up the mystery box of the #4 and a future 1st is cause for storming the front office. Siakam as a 2 time all-star and 2 time, 2nd team all-nba guy is a much easier sell. He is the better all-around player so they aren't completely wrong. But as far as winning games with Harden, OG might be the better choice and is younger and cheaper, both in trade cost and future contract.

Raptors are always in play for everything but never do anything when it comes to getting into the lottery.

All they do is trade first rounders away for a team that couldn’t even make the playoffs.

I didn’t understand the scoot stuff. He doesn’t sound a Masai guy at all. Black sounds like a total raptor type.
