Maybe I'm missing the sarcasm here, but... does it?

Obviously it's better than a sustained multi-year tank job, but a pick in this range was well within reach had we just decided to head in that direction.

Then we'd just have the pick instead of talking about trading one of our three best players for it. That player could then be flipped for something else (presumably better than the 13th pick).

The problem with these arguments is that it requires that both of us agree that going from 41 wins to 26 wins is "winthin reach". It's not, really. Not with healthy starters, and you can't exactly tell them to sit as it's detrimental to their careers.

In both situations, you need move players out. In this situation, you know what pick/player you're getting. That's not the case pre draft, you could tank and not get the player you want. See Detroit.

This is a much better situation all around imho.

Houston cannot be that dumb to do it.

Would love for them to be that dumb to do it.

When you look at the rumours from this year trade deadline and last years draft, a deal with Houston makes sense.

Trade deadline: Masai wanted young, controllable contract players with upside over draft picks (Martin, Eason).

Last year draft: wanted #7 and a future first as reportedly Portland balked at future first (#4 and 2025 first).

This deal would tick both boxes.

Salaries don’t match for a pascal trade though?
OG for green, smith jr or sengun and no 3 would work.
I wouldn’t be surprised if we’re interested in smith Jr.

Houston is projected to have lots of cap space, more than max space. So they can theoretically absorb the rest of Pascal's contract if they don't have enough filler salary.

I think you meant #4, but yes, #4 pick and one of green/smith jr/sengun would be intriguing, but I don't see Pascal/OG having that much value.

I would throw in #13 pick from our side as well if that helps make it happen. If it's Pascal heading out, it gives us lots of cap room to be under the tax which we know this team won't pay for this mediocre team.

Ya. I'd have to assume that if we were willing to trade a core player for the 4th pick it because we think Amen is a star in the making.

i've heard Amen compared to shaun livingston as a prospect, only more athletic. if that's true then he should go 2nd.

There are only a couple guys I could see Masai realistically targeting with the 4th pick if the Raptors traded for it and assuming Brandon Miller and Scoot round out the top 3: Taylor Hendricks or Gradey Dick. They are the closest comparables to the types of prospects Masai usually targets with FRPs.
Tre Mann should have been a Top 10 Pick in the 2021 Draft

Actually using the 4th pick on Gradey dick is fireable

Shaun livingston's career peaked at around 9 points / 5 assists and 3 rebounds when he was 22 pre injury. I guess you can suspect he would've gone on to be better, but that was year three.

Absolute target of Masai, I have him as the 2nd best prospect ahead of Scoot and Brandon Miller. NBA ready body, absolute elite run and jump athlete that comes from an Athletic family, His Uncle represented Jamaica in the 400 meter hurdles in the 1992 Olympics, his parents are Jamaican, he fits right in with our team culture.

i'm talking about livingston the prospect, not how his career played out. you know how good an uber athletic, injury free livingston would have been? he was drafted straight out of high school, by the clippers, so his year three stats are not that important. if you watched him come up as a prospect and seen him pre-injury you knew he was on his way to being a star PG.

We' re trying to get the #3 and #4 pick? Have we given up on trying to build from 2nd round and undrafted payers? It worked so well for one magic spell.
