I dont think its too hard to make an argument on why the Pels would do this. Now Im as big of a BI homer as it gets, but resume wise Brown has been better. Brown just made 2nd team All NBA this year. Also Brown has been the more durable player over the last 2 years. And with Zion always being hurt, the durability thing could be viewed as a nice boost. Also just lineup fit wise, I think Brown fits better with the Pels than BI does. No need to worry about who is the primary and secondary ball handler anymore. This was an issue with the Pels to start the season. The Pels want point Zion to become a thing, BI being a legit point forward is a thing and CJ also wants the ball in his hands. Brown can slide over and have a very similar offensive role as he has with Boston and the 1st and 2nd ball handler things works itself out with Zion and CJ.
Also it would make the starting lineup easier for the Pels as well. BI has improved a lot as a defender, but he is better at defending wings than guards. With the growth of Murphy in the 2nd half of the season, there was kind of going to be a log jam at the 3/4 spots. Murphy isnt a good defender yet and if you slide BI down to the 2 spot, his defense will slip a little. With this, you just plug Murphy in at the 3 and Brown at the 2.
It’s pretty simple why Pelicans don’t do this lmao. They literally would have 0 playmakers other than Zion if they trade Ingram. Zion isn’t reliable. Jaylen can’t pass the ball at all, he’s a scorer through and through. This trade doesn’t seem realistic at all. Again realistic and possible targets are
Young, Mitchell and Siakim. Ideal player is Bridges easily but Nets aren’t that dumb
I just dont see Ingram having significantly higher trade value than those guys listed. Mitchell was 6th in MVP voting this year. BI made an all star game 4 seasons ago.
Jaylen Brown for Brandon Ingram seems like a dream trade for the Celtics.
All of our current players need an elite PG next to them to reach their potential on offense. We can't find one, so swapping out Brown for another player who can actually run the offense in Ingram would give us two with both Tatum and Ingram.
And with both being big players generally two big players that can run the offense is enough to have more than a defense can scheme around and let us run sets.
Move Smart to off ball where he belongs and limit his moronic passes and shots. And actually get some open shots for Tatum and we've got a championship core on our hands.
That said him being 25, unable to really play much defense, and barely getting to 60 games played in each of the last 4 years is highly concerning.
That's a lot of warts. And it doesn't help if we're trading for a guy who won't be available to play when we make the playoffs, which seems to be our speciality lately by rostering the oldest starting Center in Horford, injury prone Rob and Brogdon, and Smart is known for his injuries himself.
But yeah so it makes sense why both teams would be interested in a trade.
It's a high risk but with the ceiling that a Smart/White/Brown/Tatum core has shown you that 0 playmaking outside of Tatum has reached... I think that's a dream trade to take. One of the very few realistic retools on the fly to actually get a roster that fits.
