Brown was awful but it shouldn't really surprise anyone. He is a very good #2, but if he's you're #1 you're not competing for anything. How many times does he have to prove this.
He's solid value at $25m, ok value at $30m, an absolute disaster at $60m.
Trade him for KAT. Or Durant. Or Siakam. Hell I'd even take Trae, much as i hate the guy.

I don’t think Brown is even a good number 2. At least not on a championship team. Too dumb on the court and no handle. I am not joking when I say I can go around the local high schools and find several better ball handlers. It’s rather pathetic that he hasn’t improved in that area at all. Not even a little bit.

if you're basing on G7 only then fine. but 27 ppg on 49% shooting does not grow on trees. yeah he's a bad ballhandler but those issues are also exaggerated by his low bbiq and bad coaching. he should essentially never be put in a position to create for himself from nothing. joe should use him more like the way the bucks use middleton, not like tatum lite.

Given the results of this team as is, it would be a catastrophic disaster to sink 600 million into Brown and Tatum. How do you expect to field a competitive roster with numbers like that, especially with a hard second apron coming.
And since we're over the tax, this bill is really going to balloon really quickly here.
Something has to give.

Brown does not complement Tatum in any way. He always wants the ball in his hands and is loathe to give it up.
He has grade school handles and his basketball IQ matches his jersey number.
Other than that, he's great! 50 million a year great? If Brad gives him that, then Brad needs to be fired.

Joe needs to be fired for just the decision to play Brogdon. -15 in 7mins, the guy said postgame he was getting pain from shooting. His time on the court pretty much stuffed our chances to get it close. It wasn’t like he was shooting the lights out this series anyway. What does he offer when his shot isn’t falling?

Should've put that rent money on the Heat to win.

Bingo!
I'm not really that disappointed with the loss because I know the Celts are not deserving of a finals appearance.
But I'm really, really disappointed in JB.
JB had 8 turnovers in Game 7.
I mean WTF!!!
It's a Game 7 and JB made dumb plays after dumb plays.
JT went down with an injury, so it was JB's time to shine.
But what did JB do?
He turned the ball over 8 times and made bad decisions over and over again.
That heat check time from JB has to go.
Every time JB makes a great shot or scores on successive trips, he then follows that up with a bad shot.
Hard to believe a 2nd team All-NBA player is this dumb!

Joe was good about using his roster depth earlier in the season. Hauser flourished. His use of Blake was surprisingly effective. The Tatum + 4 bench lineup thrived. Brogdon got onto a glide path for 6MotY. And the exception, Pritchard, is pretty excusable given roster composition.
But later in the season, and then in the playoffs ... ugh.

lol oh please. You ain't finding several better ball handlers at a local high school who are better than this:

/video/1
?s=20
?s=20
?s=20
?s=20

This is 10x better than what JB was when he first came in the league in terms of ball handling.
Nothing wrong with having a different opinion - as long as it's done respectfully. It'd be lame if we all agreed on everything

I thought if there was any consistency with this team is that game 7 is usually when the Celtics play their best but now I don’t even have that trust with this core anymore.
The team had to get off to good start to get Miami doubting themselves.
Instead Tatum goes down minutes in and the basket had a lid on it.
Miami was always going to come out with energy. They’ve proven for years now with Butler they don’t lie down easily.
Confidence is a heck of a thing and all series we allowed Miami to have plenty.
4 straight wins was a lot to ask when the team seemingly just didn’t have it all playoffs. Not once did this years team give me championship vibes in the playoffs.

Re: Rollercoaster Celts Grind to a Halt :( ECF Game 7 Loss vs MIA 5/29 (MIA wins 4-3)
The problem with Brown is his entire game revolves around his jumper falling.
When it doesn’t fall, teams just force him into horrific dribbling turnovers because they don’t have to respect his jumper as much.
Yes he might have good handles from time to time but in 7 game series against strong defensive teams he is continually throwing the ball away.
Once off might be alright but an entire series of this combined with horrid shooting will never get you anywhere.
It’s a miracle we even got to 7 games.

Mazzula HAS to GO!
He is terrible not only tactically, as has been cited all over the internet with example after example, but his basic strategy is fatally flawed.
Threes (and layups), for those who recall, Obie ball with Antoine and Pierce taking turns isolating. Or Houston with Harden, shooting threes and bitching for calls, calls your not getting in the playoffs. Same ****, different day. You're not winning 4 playoff series with this simplistic 'analytic' crap.
Analytics are a great tool, but just a tool, not a cheat code.
Gotta ditch Joe - PLEEEEAAAASE!! NO future with this guy, no matter who you surround him with, his fundamental commitment to Obie ball is incompatible with banner 18.
Regarding the core... Need to move BOTH Jaylen AND Smart.
Jaylen has improved his handle, but he always tries to do too much, more than he's capable of and hence just ends up looking as wretched as he did years ago with the turnovers galore.
Likewise Smart is never content to just make winning plays, he, like Jaylen, always ends up trying to do too much. With Smart it's not due to pressing but rather the opposite, hotdogging, looking for the homerun, flashy play. I think he's also running down physically. Does he still have good years left? Sure, but I think we may be on the downslope and he's never been able to supplant the wings as the initiator of the offense in crunch time.
Both are great players capable of amazing things. But I think for team fit both need to go.
Cashing in on Brown's value will be difficult, but it needs to return a guard who can run the offense. This has been an aching need for a loooong time.
Turnovers and offensive stagnation, particularly in crunch time, have killed us time and again. A guard running the offense makes Smart redundant since I don't think the locker room would survive a Smart demotion to a bench role... and even if it was accepted he'd still be out there at game's end. We need White to start and finish at SG. We NEED a guard who can penetrate and pass as well as be a threat to score to initiate the offense.
Brian Barrett on Off the Pike on the Ringer had an interesting trade suggestion, Brown to Atlanta for Dejounte Murray, Onyeka Okongwu, and Saddiq Bey. His breakdown of it is pretty intriguing.
In sum I am not interested in running it back. Retaining Joe is intolerable. I'll NOT be watching if Joe's back. Unlike the players, he brings nothing but negatives.

That's why coaching is so important. Not only to rally troops and manage rotations, but also game plan vs select top teams you going to see down the road.
Spo to his credit identified weak links and exposed them. Brown not being able to play make or go left is an issue. To be legit #2 you have to be able to do both. The money he gets demand that.
Also, notice how none of you guys spoke about exposing their weak points. Let me remind you, they got 7 undrafted players and Bam who shrinks casually.
