Re: Grant Williams Thread
The natural move is to extend Grant and make him a starter next year. Bring Al from the bench. I hope Brad gets it done.

The only hitch in this plan is that Grant Williams kinda sucks.

I thought we were trying to win championships?

Re: Grant Williams Thread
Bringing back Grant as our big offseason move is really depressing. Maybe my least favorite Celtic of all time. Just has no vertical, complains to refs constantly, flops but doesn’t play tough. Very unlikeable player. They have no confidence in him and he made little impact in the ECF.

I don't think Grant is good enough to start. He's an 8th/9th man. If he can improve more next season, then maybe he's a 6th/7th man.
But I wouldn't start him. I'm sure there's a few teams in the league he could start for - but those would probably not be title contending teams..

Re: Grant Williams Thread
Grant for a reasonable number wouldn't be bad...not sure what other alternatives we could get. When he plays to his potential he is great to have.
If Grant had a good season and not crap for most of it I'd be more excited about the idea of him and Timelord as decent replacements for what Horford brings to the table. Timelord's obvious health concerns and Grant playing so down this past season are a concern for the long term.
Horford is a unicorn, a vet like him is so hard to come by. Let's hope he has enough in the tank this next season and Grant/Timelord (if Grant is back) have a good season and get back on track.

I’m not saying I definitely want him resigned or think he’s my favorite player but I sure disagree that he doesnt play tough and that he’s unlikeable. He’s got his limits offcourse but he’s well liked in the locker room and with the right amount of money I wouldn’t mind him to come back. Think he’s gonna get more than we should offer though.

Re: Grant Williams Thread
Grant crapped his pants the last two games of the series. Lost his shooting, and too slow on defense. He can’t even fight through screens leaving guys wide open for the 3. He won’t box out, can’t rebound, and complains a lot. 5M per year max for him.

Re: Grant Williams Thread
Grant has some upside, can shoot the 3 albeit very low volume, and is solid on D in the right matchup. But he seems lazy and talks too much for somebody who produces so little. You'd figure he would have kept his mouth shut after the "Imma make both" debacle but then started mouthing off to Butler in Game 2 which might have swung the game. Just thinking about those two instances is hilarious but sad at the same time. The guy doesn't learn. I'd keep him at 10M per season but after that, it's seems like an overpay. He should have agreed to the extension last offseason. He cost himself.
He's a decent 7th man on this team. Perhaps he could be a starter one day if gets in shape and matures.

He didn't really improve this season. He shot worse from the three, worse from the free throw line, and despite all the talk of Grant becoming some close out attacker, had fewer shots at the rim and shot worse from the rim than last season.
Nor was this the result of his offensive load increasing. He took 11.8 FGA per 100, down from 11.9 last season.
He turned the ball over more and got blocked more.
I don't think he's getting worse, more like he's turning back into his true self which is a decent corner three guy with terrible defense and rebounding. He's like a George Niang who thinks he's Kawhi Leonard.

Re: Grant Williams Thread
The Celtics next year are about $11.4 mil below the 2nd apron, as of now. About $900k below the first apron too.
I'm curious to see what they do with Grant. If you dump Gallo, you can sign him to anything under $17 mil-ish and be under the 2nd apron. If you let Grant walk, you can feasibly get under the tax. If you sign and trade him, who knows lol. Trading Brogdon for nothing also allows you to re-sign him under the tax too.
I saw some cap guys say the Celtics might overpay Grant and make him like a walking TPE on a short-term deal

Normally I would say Brogdon would be on the move but with his injury issues I don't know if he can be traded for anything close to fair value.

No one knows how much the injury would hinder Gallo but even at 50 years old he's precisely what we need, a large body who can score or playmake from the middle of the floor. He would've been great to have for the ECF. I don't think you dump him just to overpay Grant Williams.

Re: Grant Williams Thread
just feels like the celtics yet again mismanaged an injury & should've had him get surgery back in March.
btw, what's up with Tatum's hand? his shooting has gone in the tank ever since last year's playoffs. Is he able to get surgery on whatever that hand/wrist injury he's been dealing with?

So he probably was less upset inside about being benched than people were guessing he was.
