Bowa to the Mariners

Post#1 » by cmaff051 » Fri Oct 19, 2007 7:18 pm

Old friend Mel Stottlemyre will be pitching coach.

Manager John McLaren says he is "very close" to finalizing his coaching staff.

From all indications, Mel Stottlemyre will become the pitching coach, Eddie Rodriguez the first-base coach, Norm Charlton the bullpen coach, Jim Riggleman the bench coach, and probably Larry Bowa the third-base coach.

The Mariners are expected to name the entire staff when all the pieces are in place. As of Thursday night, all but one of the selections had been finalized.

God damnit, I loved Bowa. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: He was a terrific third base coach.

I can't remember any time when he sent somebody he shouldn't have at 3B. And in addition, he worked wonders with Cano.

He will be missed. :nonono:

& I am partial to him because he reminds me of some family members. He'd fit right in with my family (except hes not from the northeast).

man i loved Bowa too....great baseball mind who fit the personality of the yankees so well...

he was the Fire to Joe Torre's Ice....

plus like mentioned he really helped with the young guys like cano and worked well with our infielders...

if this is true he will be missed....especially if we gunna hire a guy like a Mattingly or Girardi

although if for some reason we bring in a LaRussa type (which i dont really know exactly how i feel about that), i feel the manager should be able to choose his coaches accordingly...

The Mariners finally make a smart move.

F*ck the heck? That can't be right. You sure it's not Barry Lowa they hired?

If Donnie was to take over I could have seen Bowa as bench coach. I really liked him here and it's really sad to see him go. However, since Torre is gone, it is highly likely that whoever comes in would have brought in his own guys. Girardi and Mattingly would have probably been the only two that *may* have kept guys like Bowa and Pena around.

I do see the organization forcing Long(because of Arod) and Eiland(because of Hughes, Chamberlain and Kennedy) on to whoever the new manager is. -Jitpal
