Re: promise to Coulibaly. Remember Masai and his agent go way back
While OKC makes some sense, they also are positioned to start winning big and drafting a longer term piece is harder to work in. Chet will be a rookie next year. Orlando would be a threat with two picks, and who knows what Washington will do with new management.

I'm not too concerned with him not jumping out of the gym. He's got really good height and length at the position and he finishes inside at an insane rate 70%. Next level will be harder but that's a good indicator already. He's got to knock down shots, that will open his game a lot
His finishing rate really is the special sauce. Everything else about him screams competent role player.
Jordan Poole with good defense would be a fantastic result with 13th pick.
Yep. I think Poole with good defense is an all-star/borderline all-star at worst.
IMO, Bufkin has to be the guy at #13
They're really different guards. Poole was the most slippery player Michigan has ever had and loved to jack up 3s, make flashy passes and was spacey on D. Bufkin doesn't get separation near as easily from his defender but is better at everything else.
Where's the D?

Re: 2023 Draft Discussion Part 5
I've done a complete 180 on Bilal Coulibaly. I think he's going to be a bust. Why do people think he'll be an OG level defender? Just because of size and speed? He doesn't have the tenacity or mental toughness it looks like to me. Only shoots when he's extremely wide open, with a slow release, doesn't handle it particularly well. He's all "tools" at this point, and the NBA is full of guys his size that are bad defenders and can't do much else.
I think the likelihood he ends up being a bench guy that hangs out in the corner is really high.

Which games did you watch that shows he doesn't have mental toughness or tenacity?

Re: 2023 Draft Discussion Part 5
Bilal looks pretty tenacious here playing for a France first division championship as an 18 year old. A couple of defensive plays at 20sec mark
Also he continues to show new parts of his game and he’s doing it as the games become bigger.
My biggest concern from his last game is his left hand looks weak. Jaylen Brown-esque. But I’m sure that will develop on time.

Isn't Coulibaly one of the youngest draft prospects at 18, his IQ is there on defense but he still needs a lot of work before he reaches his potential in the NBA. He's a project IMO.

Signed with team T.W.O for the 2022-23 2023-24 2024-25 season.

Yes, that his biggest weakness is a lack of using his left hand. It's teachable but will take a lot of reps.

I know it’s open gym, I know it’s one on none, I know he didn’t do a damn thing this season, but I have to say that something about this workout looks elite to me. He just looks impressive. Maybe I’m crazy.

The way his knees goes inwards on his 3pt shot spells knee problems in the future like Jeremy Lin. Lin fixed it.

What led you to this conclusion?
I think he'll at least be serviceable backup SG/SF playing 16 mins per game. His ceiling is pretty high. I think he'll likely be close to Nicolas Batum. That's worth being drafted in the top 15 of any draft. Even 5-10 if you believe in him.
How are his splits when Wemby is sitting? Wemby draws doubles or at least soft doubles.

Like this?
I’m kidding, but it’s a work in progress. Livingston couldn’t hit the side of a barn this past season. He was trash. So this video was surprising to me despite all I said. I’m probably crazy, it just looks different that a typical open gym video to me.

I really don't see it with Coulibaly. Obviously we want the best for these guys but he looks like he could be another Bruno that's 1 year away from being 1 year away. I simply can't justify doing that again when there are every clearly better ready now or even just much closer to being ready now and still have substantial room left to grow.

He's too much of a mystery box to me, he's someone you draft when all the other guys you like are gone. I hear this and that about his defense, but I don't think his numbers are outlier good at all and having an elite rim protector behind you helps a lot in terms of how aggressive you can be too. I can see him being somewhere between okayish and good on the defensive end with a very small chance of being elite so he needs to be somewhat decent on offense and I think all he's shown so far is the ability to hit wide open catch and shoot 3s at a decent rate as well as scoring in transition.

The good thing is if we’re not the team who promised him it most likely means that he pushes someone ranked higher down.
1) Wemby
2) Scoot
3) B Miller
4) Jarace Walker
5) Amen Thompson
6) Cam Whitmore
7) Taylor Hendricks
8) Anthony Black
9) Gradey Dick
10) Derek Lively
11) Ausar Thompson
12) Bilal Coulibaly
13) Cason Wallace?

Big massive almost infinite difference in competition level of the ball Bruno played and what Bilal playing.
Arguably Wimby and Bilal playing the toughest competition of any of this years picks.
We the North
