Trade Brogdon for what?
Celtics are going to have a huge salary cap issue. Smart, White and Brogdon are a luxury. Brogdon is going to be 31 years old makes $22.5 million a year and is coming off of 6MOY. Pritchard is just sitting on the bench.
Brogdon's trade value will never be higher the rest of his career than this off-season. Brogdon is injury prone. Celtics need to strike this off-season or they will regret it.
Young players/draft pick(s). Hopefully a young big.
Next year after a most likely broken down Brogdon who plays about 55 games the Celtics won't be able to move his $22.5 million salary. Now is the time.
1) A luxury that resulted in the Celtics having the #2 record in the league, #1 in net-rating and 1 game from the NBA finals. You want to trade him for some random young guy who isn't good, and give Brogdon's mins to Pritchard, that's a significant downgrade - that will result in a worse basketball team.
2) Salaries have to match in a trade. So what player(s) are we getting back to match Brogdon's $22.5 mil salary? And does that player(s) give this celtics team a better shot at a title in 2024 than having Brogdon on it?
Trading a proven vet who is a great fit in the locker room, who can shoot, handle the ball, knows his role, has accepted his role - plays his role well and is coming off 6MOY for "Young players/draft pick(s). Hopefully a young big" is something that rebuilding teams do - not contenders.
