If Boston deems it necessary to trade Marcus Smart, what do you think his value is?

Probably 2 FRPs protected 1-14 or so. For all his warts he's an elite role player and that's kind of the going rate based on trades for Covington, Jerami Grant, Aaron Gordon, and so forth.

They must be using “sell high” as a double entendres (drug related, not sexual)

Luka, Jokic, maybe Giannis if they add an unprotected first.

That's a lot of options, I also find the 26-50 and then all-star and all-nba options a bit confusing lol. Kinda feel like you should have one or the other.

And mostly not the top players one. Because people always say players are "top 20" or whatever but when you ask them to make a list they realize they're actually just as likely top 35 in their list as top 20. No one has a great list for players really beyond 15 that they can feel STRONGLY about.

I think forwards are more valuable than guards. I think he’s less valuable than those guys were.

Most teams need to send back salary and that’s a huge component of the deal. Is it useless fluff salary or an on court contributor? And then “1st round pick” means drastically different value depending on the team sending it and the year.

I could see BRK for DFS and #22. Or to HOU for #20 and no salary back.

I've got him something in the #8-12 range, but classic "worth more to us than to anyone else" kind of guy. He's absolutely worth a lottery pick, but not realistically going to get you top 5 kind of value. At the same time would you realistically give him up for a pick in the teens? I wouldn't.

He's a win-now piece which makes it difficult to gauge value in terms of draft capital because the teams that would want him don't have high picks usually.

I thought about this, and you are right, but I think he's also better than those guys. That might be the homer in me, though.

I think he's a bit more valuable than that given he's a DPOY winner and his reputation as a defender/intangibles/glue guy. Teams are also gonna value somebody coming from a winning culture. But he's also almost 30 playing the most stacked position in the NBA. I think a top 10 protected FRP + a rotation piece is fair price.

Smart is valuable for this team. I love his heart and dedicatation. I wanted him in the draft as well like Ainge did. He has always been one of my favourite players on the Celtics roster.

But right now Smart is being misunderstood and misused just because our GM keeps failing. We are desperately in need of a pure ballhandler, a real PG, someone who can takeover the game and distribute. A type of player who can break the zone. Which we still can't since Kyrie left.

Smart is non of the above. He is more a defensive minded guard, who can knock down the spot up 3. He is also very effective when he posts up in the paint, but it looks like we don't have this play as one of our main ones in our playbook. It's Smart doing smart things when needed.

I'm all in for moving parts but we have to give Smart a chance next to a real PG. Moving him makes no difference. I'll only move him when we get offered a huge bag or else let him stay. He is one of the few player who can light up a fire under his teammates when it's needed. Dude has also never been a salary problem during contract negotiations. He has a clever agent who understands his position and market situation.

The knock on him that he sometimes plays hero ball is misunderstood as well. I get angry at him as well when he does make boneheaded plays. But most of the time it is more because his teammates, the so called starplayers, never show up when it's needed. It's these kind of moments when he takes matters into his own hands and sometimes it looks very ugly.

If Smart was offered I would have to assume that we are getting Scoot or Simons.

However, to play along, I think the teams that pays the most for him is Houston rockets.

Smart pairing and covering for Harden in the back court would be brilliant, the return would be, imo, something like Porter Jr and Eason.

And I make that trade easily.

opens up the ability to trade Jaylen even more.

White/brogdon
Brown/Porter Jr
Tatum
Eason/Gallo
Timelord/Horford

Plus it's just asinine on so many levels. This team sucks at creating shots and ball handling so send the team's best for a guy that is an absolute zero there and has no other real tangible skills beyond being Grant Williams 1.0.

Two firsts is probably close.. But you can always best it if you luck into a motivated buyer high on his potential impact. (Brooklyn thought Pierce and KG made them a championship team.) Houston, Orlando, LA, New Orleans, Washington.
