Re: Around the NBA 12
GD Thread got me thinking, who all would you trade the #1 pick (Wemby) for straight up?
Jokic and Giannis yes. Luka probably. That might be about it for me

That's literally it. I'd include Embiid.

I'd trade them one lightly used Mason Plumlee.

Very interested to hear what Silver "uncovered" about this whole Morant fiasco.

I'm glad JB got a landing spot, although I'm surprised that he chose New Orleans over Milwaukee.

Shooting is sooooo important, Miami is in the finals because of it.

People never look at these things with context, we had basically two of the same player keeping both was silly. Im glad it worked out but I would do it the same way if given the chance

I don't know. So Miami plays almost perfect on both ends ... and still wins by a single bucket.

Re: Around the NBA 12
The Heats two best players shot 35.0% from 3pt on 1.6 attempts per game and 8.3% on 0.2 attempts this season. Between the regular season and playoffs combined Jimmy/Bam have made a total of 61 3pt shots this season. The Heats best 3pt shooter has been missing the entire playoffs. Their 3pt shooting/spacing comes entirely from role players.

Re: Around the NBA 12
The Heat don't even have a superstar either. Jimmy is good, but he's a regular season 20/5/5 player. Bam is a fringe top 3 C at best.
They build the team from the ground up, which is the opposite of what all the other teams do.
We've always struggled a lot with getting players that fit with our best players. Our top players have usually been pretty good. It's everything else that is bad.

We have already seen this happen with Duncan Robinson and Davis Bertans. Both earned big contracts after “proving” that they are quality rotation players due to elite shooting: 5/90 for Robinson and 5/80 for Bertans. Then their shooting cooled off and they became albatross contracts as soon as their new deals kicked in. Since both have fallen out of the rotation on teams starved for useful role players. Bertans is only in the third season of his deal and has played 443 minutes, and Robinson is only in his second season and has played a mere 593 minutes.
This is the problem with one dimensional shooters— it is a constant game of roulette from season to season to depend on them to make 40%+ from 3 with huge volume. A downtick in 3P% can swing them from a quality role player to out of the rotation in a hurry, because they are massively leveraged on being elite at the least predictable and least stable skill in basketball.

And they were a fringe, play-in team that lost their first play-in game because of it.
Now take a look at how they've been shooting in the playoffs. I'll give you a hint. It's at a historic level.
That's why they're doing what they're doing.

Even Jimmy is shooting more 3s. Up from 1.6 attempts in reg season to 3.5 attempts in postseason on 36.4%

"Shooting is overrated" is an argument development I never thought I'd see lol
There is a definite, positive correlation to success and better shooting in the NBA.

I think if a guy can only shoot, no other positives such as size, defense, rebounding etc.. then yeah it can be overrated. Shooting is probably the most important skill though in NBA right now. As long as you can shoot and do 1 other thing well you are going to play.

No, they (Jimmy/Bam) aren't. Jimmy is shooting 36% vs 35% and is still only attempting 3.5 3pt shots per game and Bam hasn't made a single 3pt shot in the playoffs...
The Lakers made it to the final four with Lebron shooting 26% from 3pt in the playoffs and AD shooting 5/15 from 3pt. Plenty of successful teams run their offense through guys who aren't good 3pt shooters and get their spacing mostly from role players.

IDK what you are arguing here.
Bam is a center man... are we really going to act like him not shooting 3s is wild?
Jimmy has more than doubled his attempts.
Everyone else that plays around them is mainly shooting threes (like 70% of their overall attempts probably)...

Why does it matter who is doing the shooting? Teams that shoot better from range win more. I've already made a big post on this.
LA forgetting how to shoot while playing a team full of a bunch of shooters is a big reason why they got swept
