Re: FA Targets if Harden leaves
So anyone that's smart knows Harden really was and is using Houston for leverage to get the most monies possible. Houston specifically because they have outright space, and it didn't seem as if another team could truly utilize Harden to get over the top. However, of course at the end of the season, that may have changed. Of course he would truly consider Houston if the financial offer is that much more than the others on the market.
Primarily with LA. He is from LA. The clippers could use another primary playmaker and Harden can at least shoot well and space and is legit one of the ELITE playmakers in the league, even if he doesn't really rise to the occasion scoring. The Clippers are in win now mode, and they have a lot of quality guys that they could package to fill the salary, and 76ers are in position where they can't be choosers. Plus it also depends on how much Westbrook is willing to take to stay there. They may even get them both.
Lakers are also clearly in win now mode, and while it looked as if they were going to stand still, and re-sign all of the guys they traded for, but clearly they would want to get rid of Russell and hope to keep Vanderbilt and Rui. How could they not take a shot to try and get Harden though? They may try for DeRozan too however. But again, they may have a bit less depth, but they would have the guy that truly could allow Lebron to play less on the ball, and be a legit shooter unlike Westbrook with versatile positionality. Also the type of guy where all 3 of their big 3 could load manage.
Either trade allows for those 2 teams to be amongst the favorites to win. This was a conversation I had at the barbershop, and I clearly haven't looked too much into it. But, no matter what anyone wants to think, the draw for Houston's nightlife and his community is still there even while he's across the country and he can retire there for the rest of his life. However, he's proven the first time that his ego still calls for a ring, so Philly and others are going to be options. I also wouldn't count out Miami.

Sure, but we don't have cap to sign him.
The idea was to trade Tobias for him via S&T.

All of these guys have been steadily improving and one or more could break out with more minutes.
Lonnie is a reading kid, might want to come home.

Would Portland want Tobias?

We needed to move on from Shake years ago. He just isn't it. Had a nice little run in November, but he'll never be a volume deep threat nor a great enough playmaker to warrant heavy minutes at guard. He's incomplete and the embodiment of why our depth has been hot garbage since 2018.

Not if JRoy's opinion carries any weight.

You want it to be one way....but it's the other way.

Over at Liberty Ballers they are talking about the Sixers obtaining FVV somehow. I honestly could think of few worse moves. Fred is a nice little player and let me emphasize the little part. Maxey and FVV would be one of the shortest back courts in NBA history. I know it worked in Toronto somehow with Lowry and FVV but I would much rather sign someone like DeRozan if we were able to get a huge TPE for trading Harden. Commit short term for a bigger, better, and more athletic player.

FVV is also a terrible shooter. Really hoping this doesn't happen.

This actually feels like the most reasonable and likely outcome the whole time if you’re able to mute the outside noise surrounding Harden. I think I’m the end we’ll be the ones who are willing to pay the most.
Tobias also proved to be a liability when the chips were down in the playoffs. Him being an expiring contract will be easy to move now.

Yeah 0% this is true. Regardless of who he is there’s no way an agent would be speaking out loud on speaker phone about something like that in a crowded restaurant.

I still think Phoenix is the most likely S&T for Harden possibility. Teams him back up with KD on a “super team” and the Suns have a decent piece that matches salaries and doesn’t really fit on their team in Ayton. Now who the 3rd team is to flip Ayton to and get decent pieces back for the Sixers is a whole different question…

Agree. I'm very happy with this assuming we get back expirings and picks in a 3-way. Hopefully we send them Tucker in the deal also.

I've wanted him here since he was at Villanova, but at this point we'll never be able to afford him.
