You draft the best player available (6’9, unable to shoot or dribble) regardless of who we have as head coach.

Idk why they're dragging out announcing Sergio as HC.

Coaches aren't scouts, and we should never be picking based on fit. It really doesn't matter at all whether we have a coach by then or not.

That’s fine, we can disagree

We all saw the clips of Nurse and Scottie chatting during his pre-draft workout right??

I like the idea of the coach getting to know who he might be coaching and giving his input on who he likes, since you know, he’ll be the one coaching him

It's always raining cats n dogs around here, they haven't hired a coach yet so they must be incompetent & have no clue who to draft because you know, the coaches make the decisions, even the ones about who's supposed to be the coach

I would parallel us with the Kings situation last year. They already did the heavy lifting with the roster prior to Mike Brown.

He came for the draft and I don't think Keegan Murray took a lot of forethought.

Toronto heading into this draft might overhaul its roster with draft day trades for players like Siakam or OG. You would want a coach around for input on that.

Which article?

IMO if it’s indeed Sergio like we speculate, there will be no leakage of any names in the next weeks. Because after interviewing Sergio monday, if he is their guy, the research are likely done. If he is not, then names will continue to pop up. It’s been quiet, too quiet since monday.

If it stays quiet = it’s likely Sergio

If we are starting to see some buzz around the others candidate, then it gets interesting IMO.

he spoke on SN

I think final interviews are going on now so they are still deciding. Sergio's final starts on Friday and could last until 22-24. If by next week, nothing is announced, Sergio likely their guy and they just waiting for him to finish.

He wasn't the head coach. Assistants have their little box and he helped Nurse with what he was responsible for. Maybe he scouted certain teams, or devised defensive strategies.

Thing is he has head coached teams and won. I am not as much a fan of bringing some guy who is an up and comer type. Getting a bad coach can kill everything.

You need the right type of culture guy and it starts with knowing how to play unselfishly which seems to be his trademark. We have a middle aged team so we need a guy who can win respect.

As history has shown us, teams don’t always have to wait to announce a hiring because of the finals.

It could just be the Raptors want to give Scariolo a fair chance in the interview process. Also, even though Masai said they'd aim to have a coach by the draft, I don't see it as absolutely necessary since our front office will have way better scouting available than whoever we hire as coach. The slowness of the hiring process only further underscores how deliberate and patient our front office is in evaluating players (which IMO has contributed to our on-court shortcomings over the past 3 years).

To people concerned about coach not there for the draft. You could always ask the candidates questins like:
What position would you prioritize for the draft. What strengths do you look for in a young guy, at Guard (e.g.), what weakness can you hide.
