Lillard: " I want to build a winning team in Portland"
Lillard said this today...
"I want to win in Portland"..."build a team around me"
Well, the blood's in the water for the Magic's FO sharks
Now is the chance to trade for Scoot Henderson ( If Miller goes at #2)
A once in a decade chance to draft a star PG
Thoughts?

Re: Lillard: " I want to build a winning team in Portland"
I doubt building a winning team around him involves more draft picks and I wouldn't want to give up a core piece to get Scoot

So whatever it takes without touching Franz and Paolo. Might take a third team of course.

He's far from a star PG. Right now he looks like Dennis Smith as a draft prospect.

I have seen DSJ as a comp. Also Markell Fultz.
I'd say Scoot passes the eye test but most of my eye test was based off those two games against Wembanyama, and he left the 2nd game pretty early.
I can't believe how bad his stats ended up being on the season, especially finishing, and settling for mid rangers. The excuses: he was bored, already secured his draft spot at 2, ready to shut it down. Are those attributes you are looking for? His 3 point shooting was terrible. FT percentage ok, so maybe he will shoot.
This narrative about he is the best PG since Derek Rose is just that, a narrative. All these draft people that are saying he would have been the number one pick in any other draft are full of it. There is no way he goes top 3 in last year's draft, or the year before that, or the year before that(Edwards, Wiseman, Lamelo), actually maybe Golden state takes him over Wiseman. The year before that no way is he going ahead of Ja. Scoot's numbers aren't even in the same ball park as Ja's, even if Ja was a year older at a small school.
Ja 24.5/5.7/10.0 on 55.6% from 2, 36.3% from 3, and 81.3% on 8.3 FTs a game
Scoot 16.5/5.4/6.5 on 46.5% from 2, 27.5% from 3, and 76.4% on 2.9 FTs a game
I think the FT attempts and 2pt% stand out, when Scoot is so often referred to a guy that can get to the basket so easy.
Also isn't the G-league suppose to be a lay up league. Grant Riller, and all 6 foot nothing of him shoots 55.8% from 2 in the g-league and scores 21.3ppg.
The hype train for Scoot does not live up to the production in the G League. Maybe the scouts will have a better take on his athletic abilities and basketball skills, but the numbers are what they are.
If we were to trade up, I hope it's for Brandon Miller.

Sounds like he'd like to stay and make as much as he can. I'm pretty sure Vuc said the same thing a couple of months before he was traded.

If Lillard wants to win, then either Shaedon Sharpe or Anfernee Simons MUST be traded.

I heard Sharpe is off-limits in any trade talks.drsd wrote:orthoman wrote:Lillard said this today...

You’ve been on fire with good posts lately. There’s definitely a lot left to be desired in his numbers. He passes the eye test though as someone with underlying skill that can be built upon and an athletic profile that could give him an edge, but he was resting on his laurels this season for sure which is disappointing. (Grant Riller is a secret weapon though)
Knowing that between Fultz, Henderson, Amen and Black all have glaring weaknesses as shooters, I wonder how long it will take for one of the rookies to emerge as the better player (not prospect) than Fultz, and which one develops a legit shot first? Will be interesting to keep track of.

I mean i am not sure if it was part of the same interview....Lillard says:
"I want to have an opportunity to win in Portland…We got an opportunity, asset-wise, to build a team that can compete," Lillard said. "If we can't do that, then, you know, obviously, like I've said, you know, for months now, like then this is a separate conversation that we would have to have."
"Miami obviously," Lillard said. "Miami is the obvious one. Bam [Adebayo] is my dog. Bam is my dog for real. But I mean I think Miami is the obvious one. Brooklyn is another obvious one because Mikal Bridges is my dog too. I mean, both have capable rosters."

Would Heat be favorites to win now , if they have Lillard?

Re: Lillard: " I want to build a winning team in Portland"
So what would we trade them for the #3 pick that would make Portland a "winning team"?

It's true at some point I feel this story will flip the other way. What does "competitive" mean in this case? Play-in competitive? Playoff competitive? The teams he mentioned are closer to playoff / championship aspirations then play-in.
They won the 3rd pick in a draft, in a draft where once again the BPA doesn't have a F, C, PF that Lillard needs. It is very likely that they get some sort of "G". They could possibly pair him with Whitmore / Walker and hope for the best with the 3rd but that is a lousy use of the pick.
As to the topic of how good Scoot would be. He has the hype that he could replace Fultz year 1 if we wanted to. Yet unfortunately, I do not think a trade happens that doesn't cost us the assets we are looking to give. I do not think we are in contender / sell our future shape until Paolo is probably year 3-4 Franz year 4-5.

Re: Lillard: " I want to build a winning team in Portland"
rather trade for Lillard then move for scoot.. as long as extension was signed
We should have enough to not trade both of Banchero/Wagner and honestly as long as we keep 1 of our picks this year i'm not mad.

We are likely not competitive enough for him & nobody on our team is his dawg.

That's why I don't see us as a good trade partner. They would have to think that they could build a better team around Dame with an offer from us, and I don't see that happening. Personally, if it's for Scoot, I'd have no problem offering 6,11 and at least two future picks with limited protection, but I don't see Portland wanting that. If I'm them, I hope Miller is there, then you have a potential star next to Dame. But if Miller goes at 2, then take Scoot and trade Dame for the highest offer you can get.
Our best hope to make a deal with Portland is if it includes another team.
Wizards get: 6,11 future picks,
Blazers get: Beal
Magic get: 3
