This is what I've been preaching (Looking at you PIF...Lol)
OKC hoarded all these picks and now has to sell at a discount.
OKC has the LAC, OKC, Rockets, and Jazz 1st next year. I assume LAC will be the best team and they picked 20 this year.

So OKC just traded 37 this year and ~23 next year for a 1st in 6 years... Terrible value.

We need to get in on this.
The Pacers have 12 players under contract and 4 Top 32 picks.
The Jazz have 3 First as well

pcbothwei -- this is entirely because they lost Will Dawkins to us. It's an act of penance -- self-laceration!

Plus, everybody knows that the '29 draft is going to be the best in a decade!

Not a great move from OKC here I would have happily traded 8 for 12 the late first and 37 and I have not doing that would have been better for them than a protected pick in 2029

I mean. I don’t like the trade, but if there are no/little protection on the pick it’s a good gamble.
Denver has been bad outside of drafting melo and Jokic. Denver isn’t a big enough market or good enough organization to attract stars. So a regression after this 5 year run with jokic could net them a lotto pick

:) To discuss a bit more seriously...
I certainly don't see it the way you do. I see a team whose management figured out that it had peaked in '18-19 & '19-20, with no way to get better & contend based on its aging roster, & decided to rebuild around picks & what young players they did have (SGA & Dort in particular).

Based on confidence in their ability to get value out of the draft, they prioritized adding picks in the trades they made to gut their roster of veterans. In doing this, they essentially sacrificed the '20-21 season & the '21-22 season.

This year they started to see the payoff:

Other than SGA, who was drafted in 2018, guys who came into the league before 2019 played a total of 895 minutes.
Their kids won 40 games (12-8 in their last 20).
I.e. the Thunder are on their way back after only 2 down years.

That's an extremely quick start to a rebuild, wouldn't you say?

I think where OKC went wrong was not being more aggressive with using those pick to get better picks and better players.

They "went wrong" -- ??
In the '21-22 season, OKC won 24 games.
In '22-23, the team won 40 games.

What are you saying? That if they'd only been "aggressive" they'd have won... what, 50 games?

Not, wrong as in doomed but wrong as mismanagement of assets. Sure they are trending up but having to sell off assets for pennys on the dollar is no good

"Pennies on the dollar"? :)

In 2021 OKC traded its second first-round pick, at No. 16, to Houston and chose Alperen Sengun for the Rockets.
They received a pair of future first-round picks in return.
They also had 18 & took Tre Mann (not my favorite pick -- but that's a different issue).

Then they traded 34 & 36 for 32 & took Jeremiah Robinson-Earl.
Then they took Aaron Wiggins at 55.

OTOH, they've done a couple of things I do not understand at all -- in particular, they traded the #30 pick in '22 for JaMychal Green -- whom they bought out a couple of weeks later! There must have been something under the surface there....

I can't imagine the haul, jumping from 14 to 2 is significant.
Bickerstaff: who's up for kickball?!!

It would have to involve Ingram.

Ingram, 1 of Murphy/Jones, 14 and probably a future 1st.

If they were smart they would try and dump Dyson daniels while people are still high on him. They have that unprotected laker pick in 2024 as well !

Hypocritical overreaction, politicians put out campaign ads and Christmas post cards showing-off "muh guns"
OTOH, I understand that it looks bad for the image the NBA is trying to put out there.
