Hard to believe but I'm a Celtics fan coming in peace. LOL

A question for you. Considering most posters on RealGM, especially on the Celtics board at least, know more about the team they root for than any of their front offices ever could (LOL) would Detroit be in favor of doing a sign and trade with Boston of Grant Williams @ 12.5 per for 4 years for Bagley? Looking at your roster, it seems that there are plenty of bigs but not much in 3&D wings. Most all of Boston's bigs are older except Rob Williams, so we are looking at younger bigs. Since Bagley and Tatum were close, being both from Duke, Boston may get more out of him. Grant will never get much playing time at wing behind Tatum and Brown as he would like. I'm thinking a change would benefit both.

What is your take on this idea? Thanks in advance for your honest opinions.

I think most fans here would take that deal in a heartbeat. Bagley is fairly efficient as an interior scorer, but he gets lost on defense, struggles to stay healthy, and doesn't stretch the floor. After we traded for Wiseman, it really made Bagley's fit in the rotation questionable, especially with Duren and Beefstew already on the team. Floor stretching and wing defense are things we need in spades and 12.5 per for Williams is way less than a lot of folks on here would be willing to throw at him outright. Most folks in here, even if we like Bagley, consider him a bit overpaid, so this feels like a win all around for us.

But to sign him outright while still being on the hook for Bagley, I'd avoid that entirely. We need to let go of a big on our roster

The fact that he was out of the playoff rotation for the Celtics at times isn't great... but I tend to agree his value to other teams isn't really dependent on that he's shown enough to prove he's an above MLE type guy.

Swapping Bagley for Grant Williams in a S&T is about the only way I'd be interested in him.

The fact that Celtics fans are proposing such things, should throw some caution to the wind for those that are pining for Grant Williams.

Grant Williams injured his hand late in the season (back in March) and played through the injury which may have played a part in why he was not quite as good down the stretch and into the playoffs. Props to him for playing through it for the team in a contract year I feel like lots of guys would want to get it good to protect their free agency.

Sounds like he will be fine by the time training camp rolls around, but this certainly could also reduce interest in him a bit as well this summer.

He's not a distressed asset by any means but I do think him being out of the rotation isn't doing him any favors in a contract year

The Bagley for Williams sign/trade isn’t a bad idea but…

I think Williams is long term a backup. And for a fraction of what we would pay Williams, we already have Isaiah Livers. Livers needs to stay healthy, but having him as our backup saves us money so we can do other things like splurge for a STARTING SF like Cam Johnson. I’d much rather do that plan.
