How would people feel if we traded Cole+Fultz and somehow signed Bruce Brown, FVV and Seth Curry?

I feel like some team could be in a position to get a steal of a player in Ben Simmons - if he goes to the right team with the right mindset to rehab himself and get back to basketball instead of trying to be a D-list celeb.
Yes he has issues with his shooting, but his playmaking and defense for his size are still exceptional. He’d probably look real good next to Wemby. Or maybe he becomes a small-ball C finally.
Washington should take a chance if they’re looking to blow things up.

I really like our draft position of 6 and 11. I am thinking back to the year of heart and hustle where we barely missed the playoffs and we had a ton of cap room with and a ROY in Mike Miller.
I believe we do the following
1) Keep both picks
2) Draft a Euro with our second rounder and stash him
3) EXTEND FULTZ to a team friendly deal
4) Resign Mo and Bitadze
5) Trade Harris (he will stunt the growth of our draft picks)
Then go in to training camp letting everyone fight it out for minutes knowing that Pablo, Franz & Carter will get their minutes at any position.
It’s time to take the talent we have and maximize its value THIS SEASON so when we make the playoffs we have other players wanting to come here by trade or by free agency.
I think we have a group of players that really are on the cusp of either showing they have a lot more to offer or they have hit a ceiling. Those players being Isaac, Fultz, Suggs, Anthony, Bol, Houstan, Bitadze.
That’s 10 players plus our two draft picks. 9 of which it’s their year to show what they can add to this team AND ALSO MOSELY TO SHOW HE CAN COACH AND GROW THIS TALENT.
Because next offseason not only do you have the free agents you have the unhappy potential free agents of 2025 and 2026. If we have a great year and develop this half of these guys we have maximized our trade assets and in a much better position to know what this team really needs.
With Fultz extended we would have 80 million in contracts which would give us 50-60 million under the cap to throw at Jalen Brown.
One more year of Boston choking and he will want a fresh start.
It also gives us the expirings of Cole, Harris, Chuma and Bol to trade IN SEASON
There's no logical reason to extend Fultz right now. His game needs major improvement and of course his injury risk. If we extend Fultz we're showing we have no standards and no vision for the future. He has to earn the extension, which so far he objectively has not. "You can't make the club in the tub" and "The best ability is availability", or whatever other cliche you want to use, you absolutely cannot extend someone who sits on the bench with injuries more than he plays, who can't provide spacing or draw fouls, with poor defense mixed in. He's the most obvious player to not extend on this entire roster.
Absolutely there is. You buy low on Fultz and lock him in to a contract that doesn’t hurt either side and completely locks in the cap space for next summer. Jaylen Brown should be the target.
If Fultz blows up this season, which I have a strong feeling he will, he will cost dearly. Fultz is this generation’s version of Chauncey Billups. Mark it down, almost same career issues with injuries and being a bigger guard with shooting issues. Fultz still has better upside right now in his career than Billups did at the same point in his career.
Lock him down under $20 mil a year and it will be a steal just like Carter Jr is right now.

He will be an unrestricted free agent next summer. Fits our biggest Hole and should be our #1 target. With a sting season by the Magic and the talent develops we could sign him and trade away our pieces to fill in the spaces.
PG - Fultz,
SG - Brown
SF - Wagner
PF - Banchero
C - Carter

Someone who can't hit three's should be able to drive and draw fouls. He can't do either. He has severe limitations in how he's able to score. Billups first six seasons shooting the 3:
1. 33 %, 4.1 attempts
2. 34 %, 3.7
3. 31 %, 4.7
4. 36 %, 5.2
5. 17 % (played in only 13 games), 3.2
6. 37 %, 2.5
Fultz's first six seasons:
1. 0 %, 0.1 attempts
2. 28.6 %, 0.7
3. 26.7 %, 1.9
4. 25 %, 2.0
5. 23.5 %, 0.9
6. 31 %, 1.5
Billups shot a much higher volume of 3's his first six seasons than Fultz has, with a significant edge in percentage on top of it. In other words, evidence existed to show that he would break out. That's not so with Fultz where until last season each season where his volume went up his percentage went down.
Because Fultz is so limited with scoring he needs to be elite at something else to make up for it, and he is not. I'm perfectly fine giving him the final year of his contract to see if he can sort out his issues, but giving him an extension at this point is just flat out bad management. We can say "if he takes a step then he'll cost more". Sure, but you can say that about literally any player who has ever played, during any point of their entire career. It's about risk, and Fultz's history shows the risk is in extending him, not in not extending him. If he breaks out there are still going to be major questions about whether it was the outlier or the new norm. He's going to have to string together at least 2-3 productive, healthy seasons in a row for teams to consider him worth the risk. If some team wants to throw 20m at him, they can have him. In my eyes he's not worth 10. He's just too limited and doesn't compensate for his shortcomings with anything you can consistently rely on.
edit: One more thing to note. Billups didn't shoot a ton of free throws early in his career either, but he played in an era that defense wasn't basically outlawed. Drawing fouls was more difficult, in other words. Fultz barely averages 1 drawn foul per game, in the era of NBA history where drawing fouls is the absolute easiest it's ever been. Virtually any contact, no matter how trivial, in the paint nearly always leads to FT's in the modern NBA. Yet still he can't draw fouls. His FT percentage is also all over the place, it went from 47 percent his rookie year up to 89.5 percent his second year here. The following year it dropped to 80.6 percent, and then again down to 78.3 percent last year.
Fultz is a very bizarre player.

Billups being bad early in his career is not supporting evidence for all other bad players

I am very curious if the Magic are actually looking to spend this summer or not.
My initial reaction is that they won't spend, but if they're willing to play in free agency, that could (although it shouldn't) change the draft strategy.

I think we need to play smart and collect assets
Trade with Utah
6 for 9 + 2025 first round draft pick from Cleveland
And with 9+11 go for a solid fit + high risk high reward
Dick+ Bilal
By adding solid players and an extra frp, it gives us more ammunition if a star becomes available on the trade market

When you look at teams with cap space I can see only 2 teams with a need at SG (Utah+ Orl) and I can't see Utah spending money on someone like Gary Trent.
So I really think we could sign Trent on a very friendly front loaded contract
21 19 19 17 million
This contract would be a nice asset for Future trade if needed

I am pleased to see the Rockets linked to VanVleet, as it is my opinion this team is better served by inking Trent. I think he would help this roster considerably.

im worried about GJT. yes, he can shoot the 3 above average (not great, but above average), but thats it. he doesnt pass and is a bad defender.

Pretty harsh calling him a bad defender.
He does exactly what we need from our 2 guard- volume 3 point shooting and solid defense.

I suspect the Magic would allow their potential free agency moves to impact their draft strategy (even though they shouldn’t).
Like if they know they’re gonna sign Grant Williams (and they’ll know before the draft) then I can’t imagine they also draft Hendricks or Walker.
If they know they’re gonna sign VanVleet, I can’t imagine they take a point guard.
That sort of thing.

Yeah, that is what I'm thinking as well. Especially as regards shooting guard. If we are targeting GTJ then do we need Gradey, Hawkins, Keyonte, etc?

At worst, Trent jr is an above average defender, nurse called him many times one of the best defender in his team (before moving him to bench)
I think Trent would really benefit from playing with good playmakers like fultz+ Paolo and Franz

It seems like this summer lots of vets will be on the move in trades. There will be opportunities out there.
