I dunno man, that's a hell of a jump. I never saw the interview, so thanks. Rare for him to be as candid as that and surprised this is the first I saw it, but BR/dr is a habit hard to shake.

Idk what br/dr is but at minimum it's selfish and immature to be worried about your dumb individual awards heading into the playoffs. He can talk about that all off season. Very Rodgers-esque ... which is why I thought we still needed a Championship experience type coach to check that stuff in and not a player's coach yet.

The only acceptable comment in that situation is, "Right now, I'm worried about the Bucks getting another championship not individual awards -- ask me in July what I think about that." He should let his agent or someone else lobby for that anyways -- looks petty.

I try to make my team successful. That’s what I get paid for. That’s what I’m here for.

You're just going to gloss over this part to push your line?

All the words matter lol

If I cuss you out but say just kidding at the end does it erase it? 4 - 5 days before your 1st playoff series and you're b##ching about some media award bs and come to game 1 reckless trying to prove yourself jumping over dudes like a rookie?

Thinking about how Stotts was an assistant throughout the George Karl era SuperSonics and how that experience crafting an offense with peak Shawn Kemp comes into play with Giannis.

Not sure if Terry was involved that much with Seattle’s D but Gary Payton and Holiday have plenty of similarities as well.

I like it. When he was gaining steam last few weeks, I knew something was there. I watched and read up on him. Seems his biggest strength is player development and players seem to like him. Euro background which we like.

If I was a head coach I would choose Detroit every time. Win a playoff series in the next few years and you’re set. Don’t make the ecf with the bucks next year and you’re on the hot seat. Even if you have decent success, an obvious tear down is on the horizon.

Don’t really care about the coaching stuff anymore. More and more I’m focused on what roster changes they can make. Mike Malone didn’t become a championship coach in one season, he has the best player and a good cast around him. If the bucks can get more guys who can hang in a playoff series they will have success, if they can’t then they’re going to fail no matter who’s on the bench.

This is such a coward's viewpoint. If you don't want to coach Giannis because you think it creates too much expectation, I sure as hell don't want you coaching Giannis. Go coach that busted Pistons roster.

On the other hand, if we just lost a bidding war, more power to him, and we were right not to go higher.

At any rate, it's more unsettling (if true) that these guys were our first two choices than it is that we didn't get them.

I could be missing the point but I don’t see how it’s being a coward by thinking about the risk of a job especially when it involves moving your family and life across the country every other year or so. Like with most jobs some people value security over the most success.

The family stuff goes out the window when you’re talking about living in Detroit.
still learning the game

How many athletes or coaches with families actually live in the principal city where the team is based/named for? He's not living in Detroit, he's living in Grosse Point Shores or something. Just like Budenholzer had a house in Fox Point and then Merton. Granted he also had one in the Third Ward but all of these guys can afford to live in the nicest neighborhoods in the nicest suburbs or parts of whatever city they want.

Idk $8 million a year he might still be stuck in the ghetto dodging bullets and going around dumpster fires on his daily run.

I like this hire for Toronto, I do think it is a blow to Memphis too, they are having a rough offseason.
Dealing with people who exhibit the "smartest person in the room" syndrome can be a challenge. One approach is to listen their opinion while also encouraging open-mindedness. It's important to create an environment where all voices are valued.

He was highly thought of here but that was before the coaching staff collectively forgot to call a timeout with .5 seconds left.

Big risk by Lee. Boston has an early playoff exist and that staff is gone(compared to the long runway in Det/Tor).

Also surprised Cassell took a step back as a lead assistant in Philly and now is behind Lee in Boston.

Surprised Cassell would take a step down.

He's a great guy, very well-liked. Comes off as a very smart and thoughtful guy as well. Hard to say what he brings as a coach, he's obviously been under Bud's wing for quite some time, so that bodes well for him. He was tough as hell as a player at Bucknell. Seems very close to getting his shot to run the show. Kind of a weird fit with Mazzulla, honestly.

I’m still waiting for an explanation on why people around here are high on Cassell’s coaching abilities. He didn’t seem like that smart of a player. Just had no fear to take big shots.

He’s coached under Randy Whitman and Doc Rivers.

The Sampson stuff was 100% false since it doesn't even fit the timeline. Sampson only made it to the first round of interviews and the next day got an extension.

This. It’s pretty widely understood that the Bucks were doing Sampson a favor by interviewing him so he’d get a big extension. He probably provided some good intelligence based on film study he did in exchange.

There’s a zero percent chance they offered him the job considering he didn’t make the final round and didn’t have a meeting with Giannis and Midds, which means Gery’s entire article is immediately suspect.

The “NBA source” is probably still Caron Butler.
Kudos to Woefel. Listening to the Stein podcast and he says Month turned us down and Sampson was very highly regarded. Was not a favor interview

monty turned everyone down from interviews because he wanted time off, the pistons had to pay him an insane amount of money to convince him otherwise

We might not get anything announced publicly until training camp. Griffin did mention him after his presser during a media scrum.
