Isaac has been a Magician for 6 years. His mean games played per season is 24.5 games. This is not just because of his two Zero years, as his median is 27. Actually his averages are offset by his one, lonely season playing more than 35 games; in his sophomore year he logged an expected 75 games. All our fan hype is actually only based on how he did that year. That was the 2018-19 season. That was five NBA season's ago.
And it's not like Isaac has worked that hard on the court either. He has logged only 3636 total NBA minutes. For comparison, marginal talented Moritz Wagner was drafted the year after Isaac and has logged more total NBA minutes. Perennially injured Markelle Fultz has played more total minutes.
As a final thought, Isaac's upside projections are not that outstanding in themselves. His per36 numbers for his career are 13/1/8. Moe Wagner's per36 numbers are 18/3/8. The hype for Isaac seems to be exclusively about his defense. Is his defense really so outstanding that he should be a core player of this team even if he were fully healthy, and would be fully healthy for another 8 years? Isaac is not a future allstar. He will probably be an OK player from next year on, but nothing that most teams don't have on their roster. Isaac is replaceable, and it is time for him to move on.
Well if we are going to bring up per 36.
In last year's 11 game romp. Isaac was at 16/13/2 with 4.1 steals and 1.2 blocks
He may never be what he was but his third season was incredible 12/7 with 1.6 steals and 2.3 blocks in 28 minutes a game. He would have likely been the front runner for DPOY...and yes his defense was that outstanding....and anybody that has watched him play knows that.
His third season lasted 34 out of 72 games.
Whole future DPOY is fabricted lie on this forum that people elect to support for no reason other than feel better.
And he would never won DPOY as Davis, Gobert and Giannis were his competition,, both of finalists for award (Giannis, Davis) with crazy numbers, and one eventually won title that year, Giannis, who won DPOY, had more votes than all other players combined. He got 75 out of 100 first votes.
In his entire career, Isaac has never recived signle DPOY vote.Only and i mean ONLY way how Isaac could have ever won DPOY was if he was on 50+ team, tagged with superstar like Lebron or Doncic and him existing would create buzz.
In last 30 years Marcus Smart and Marcus Camby are only non-allstar to even win that award.
Idea that somebody would, from mainstrea media , give up at least 40 out of 100 first place votes to Jonathan Isaac on some 44 wins Magic as DPOY over Anthony Davis or Gobert is just silly notion.
Whol DPOY isaac is one of most boring, bull*** narratives here that has been pushed for over half of decade now. Guy was very, very, very good defender, but winning award on team like Magic , small market team without any media buzz, on first round exit teams, would never be reality. Much like becomming allstar for Fultz is fairytale as third option on some 15 ppg.
And sure thing his per 36 sounds better than actual:
5 ppg
4 rpg
If you look at Bamba's per 36 numbers he always looked like Wilt, than you would put him on floor for 20 min and figure that he can't even play 20 min let alone produce anywhere close to those numbers
One of craziest things about Isaac is fact that Magic in two seasons when they were competitive, still had better record without him.
2018-19 Isaac played 75 games: 37-38 with him, 5-2 without him.
2019-20, Isaac played 34 games 15- 19 with him, 18-21 without him.
In total, Magic were 52-59 with him and 23-23 without him. It really doens't help his case for alleged world beater and game changer when you figure he made no positive impact on W columns. Ofc it's probably bit more deeper and complext than raw win percentage, but i'm so damn fed up with this "best defender in the world, game changer, without injuries one of best defenders in history" that some people spread. He was excellent defender who aslo sucked on offense really hard because he had no role to play but PJ Tucker-stand in corner and putback dunks. his complete lack of offense was on full display when he faced Siakam and Kawhi and him and Gordon as "stoppers" , "kept" Siakam and Kawhi on 55 ppg . IT was mockery. While he shot 27% FG for 6 ppg and only 1 block a game and 0,6 steals, but 1,8 fouls and ultra negative turnover rate. That's what happeneds when you aren't only player on the floor that tried hard on defense.
Isaac in regular season on defense is like that dad who shows up at pickup game, nobody goes hard , everybody is chiling and guy elbows you in face and yells how soft you are. LIke dude, chill, we are here having good time, trying not to break legs.
