For all your Damian Lillard trade needs as requested by Howard

Why we doing this? This an offseason thread. Lillard going to be a huge part of our offseason discussion. I for one would prefer it all in one thread.

We need to be trying to trade 18 to Indy for 26 and 29.

I also read that if OKC was interested we could trade a pick for the one they already have to swap up the year and that alone would unlock a 4th 1st round pick for us. I’ll try and find the scenario again.

We need to stockpile all the tradeable assets we can

Herro, Martin, Oladipo, Jovic and our 2023/2028/2030 picks for Lillard. Salaries match identically (45.6mil)

Lowry, Oladipo, Martin and our 2023/2028/2030 picks and 2027/2024 FRP swaps for Lillard. (This is if POR would prefer all expiring money except Martin and additional pick swaps)

Herro, Robinson, 2023/2028/2030FRPs and 2027/2024 FRP swaps for Lillard.

Miami would likely prefer the last option.

The only trade that makes any sense for them is Herro, Lowry and basically all the picks. They can then flip Herro is they want and get cap space. No way they they even consider those other trades.

This is starting to sound like the KD situation where we in a delusional manner felt we could get him on our terms. They clearly will have other suitors so it will be a bidding war.

This doesn't make sense for them because Lowry and Herro are 56.6mil in salaries and Lillard is 45.6mil.

I don't think this is like the Durant situation at all.

BKN didn't owe Durant anything.

BKN were also in a terrible position because of their moves to trade for Harden then trading Harden for Simmons for pennies on the dollar and trading Kyrie to Dallas for pennies on the dollar they needed to get as much possible in return otherwise they would be screwed.

Lillard has said himself publicly the two teams he'd like if a trade went down would be Miami or BKN.

This interview gives good insight into Dame's thought process and Portland's thought process. Chris Haynes is Lillard's go to reporter for everything he does.

Seems Portland are the ones saying we not trading you to a West team.

Dame seems adamant he's not going to Boston, He also confirmed this on a IG live.

That really leaves Miami and Brooklyn as the two teams with assets to get it done.

If you are Dame and you can either play with BKN and be the outright no1 option with no real #2 guy on the roster with a suspect coach and GM or go to Miami where you are still the go to no1 option but play with Jimmy and Bam with Spo as your coach and Pat as your GM the answer is obvious.

If Portland really want to do right by Lillard and want to see him have success Miami is the team to trade him to.

At that point our roster would be

The rest of the roster would need to be Vet min players, 2nd round picks or two-way guys.

I don't think this is viable.

That's where I disagree, I think that's the best starting 5 in the league AND they're fit together almost perfectly.

And while we'll have a suspect bench for sure, I trust Spo and the front office to squeeze enough production out of the undrafted/vet minimuns/the 2 way guys we already to not grind the starter too much.

Nuggets had 7.5 rotation players this entire run, and I have no doubt this team will have enough top end talent to cover for the unproven bench.

You are missing the key point here, this requires Oladipo to opt out of his PO. This is not possible unless he does this. Or unless Grant takes like 20mil or less which is just as unlikely.

I would love to see it happen. But realistically its just not at all likely.

1. If Dipo doesn't play along (stranger things have happend) - we can cut and stretch his deal. His contract will only count at under 2Mil for next year in that case.

2. We can also move Martin. He has positive value, can probably fetch a young cheap player or a draft pick.

With just dipo/lowry, thats 39 million of expirings that will entice some teams.

Well fans want to add a big man, and I happen to know a team that probably wants to get out of a bad contract.

Yeah. Dame is the new KD. Heat FO are gonna be focused on that before exploring other moves. Hopefully it's not a drama and we get clarity soon. I think this would have to go down draft day so Heat can include current pick. If this doesn't happen on draft night, I'd be skeptical of it happening at all

Take into coniseraing 1 thing - as much as you might hate smallball :

1. It's been working in the playoffs.

2. Spo is addicted to it.

3. Bam and Jimmy REALLY need a shooter next to them. There are only about 2-3 legit Centers that really shoot, and I doubt Spo wants to change his entire defensive philosophy and switch to drop cover for any of them (M.Turner/Old Lopez/Injured Porzingis).

Jerami Grant, Grant Williams, even our own Jovic - that's more in line with Spo's vision.

He's not serious. Jimmy doesn't like to make any excuses, he's always going to say he was healthy. He said this in the game after he injured it too.

To anyone watching Jimmy play it was obvious he was injured and playing through it.

Smallball isn’t the problem and has never been the problem. This team needs an elite 3 level scorer. We lost in the finals because we couldn’t score over 100 points. Elite 3 level scorer on that team and we win the championship

Can’t be traded until July 9th but we should still get a good idea based on what the blazers do with the pick on draft day

The thing that's different this offseason is that we don't have any cap space or room under the tax line to sign players like we did last offseason. We have at best the 6.8mil mini MLE to use and after that its just Vet Mins. Which means we are not going to have our pick of the litter with FA's they going to follow the money and then we'll be picking from the scraps.

Also I don't see this as a situation like KD where it will be pushed to the trade deadline. Because KD surprised BKN and requested a trade like right before FA opened didn't he?

I get the feeling Lillard and Portland have already had lengthy discussions about this and it will be decided what their plan is with Lillard whether to keep him or trade him by the draft. So we should know with plenty of time whether Lillard is an legit option or pipedream.

Regarding Dame, players that declare their intention get to their destination. Players that don’t, end up in Cleveland. If Dame really wants out (i’m not convinced he does), he has to make it known and where he wants to be through the proper channels

yeah

Imagine if we had Bucks Jimmy... we'd be champs this year.

I remember during the knicks series, some of us said Josh Hart just ruined our run, even if we beat the knicks
