Is this applicable to Dame? Because what I'm reading states anyone signing a veteran extension contract after August 9, 2022 are legally and contractually unable to be traded at any point during the regular season.

Dame signed his 2yr extension on July 29th.

It’s a certain time period starting from the day the extension is signed, that number of days ends on July 9th based on the timing for Dame per Spotrac

I'm not sure this is correct.

I found this,

"That’s not necessarily the case for a player who signs a veteran contract extension. A player who signs a veteran extension that locks him up for more than three total years (including his current contract) and/or includes a raise higher than 5% become ineligible to be traded for the next six months"

And on Spotrack it says this.

"Players that signed a free agent contract after November 9, 2022 or a veteran extension contract after August 9, 2022 are legally and contractually unable to be traded at any point during the regular season. Free agent signings come with a 3-month trade restriction from the day of signing. Certain veteran extension signings, that are above the extend-and-trade rules, come with a 6-month trade restriction. Players that signed one of these contracts after those specific dates listed above would have their trade restriction lifted beyond the NBA Trade Deadline on February 9th."

So seems like the rule is, if you sign an extension before August 9th you are eligible to be traded in 6 months or by the trade deadline of that season but if you sign your extension after August 9th you are not eligible to be traded the whole season until the following offseason.

Yea I’m not sure then, when I view his contract on Spotrac is has a trade restriction of July 9th listed. I’d like for it not to be true

But then why didn’t we try to get him earlier when his trade value was far less? Oh well.

I’d also be interested in seeing if Charlotte would be willing to trade us Cody Martin on the cheap. Maybe in a sign and trade for Strus or something.

I don't think Martin handles the ball well enough to be a wing. Certainly not a back court player. I think his future is pretty much what it was this season. Scrapping with bigger players, mostly as a backup.

Klay Thompson can’t dribble and he’s a shooting guard. Really my only concern with Caleb starting in that role would be his 3pt shooting. Can’t have someone killing spacing around Bam and Jimmy and if Caleb is starting in place of a guy like Strus in that role, how well he can really shoot will be tested.

I’d maybe consider Kyrie if the price is right but man, that is a guy who has consistently made every team that he’s on substantially worse. The only exception was when he played with LeBron

His shooting doesn't have to be elite if his off-ball movement like cutting is good which has been the case with him. Caleb would be a fine starting SG but you would require a true PG whether that's Dame or someone else is the question.

hmm, i thought there was a small time frame where he was pushing miami before he gave up

unless the ICC insider posts were fake?

There was never any reputable KD to Miami smoke, no disrepect to ICC. If the Shams/Wojs of the world aren't talking about KD pushing hard for Miami, it didnt happen.

Isn't Kyrie a free agent? How would it be possible for that to work?

If it's a scenario of sending out multiple first round picks, hard capping the team, AND committing to a max contract then I much prefer the Beal pursuit. He's a year younger and all the offense he's been generating has been as a top fiddle (not benefiting from hiding behind a superior force). Their numbers are very similar in terms of offensive impact. Plus, he's a professional--not a lunatic lol

Dame is obviously first option for me but if that falls through I’m definitely cool with getting Kyrie in a sign and trade and it would be a lot cheaper, could probably retain Herro too.

Hes never had a coach like spo to get him in line or anyone like Riley that will tell him its my way or youre out.

Which i dont think Irving will like here. He wants to be with some team he can push over. Remember, when brooklyn hired Nash he said they dont need a coach.

Kyrie doesnt fit.

I want Dame here. But if that doesnt have any legs.. im all about looking at the C options which wont cost us much. And will improve our offense, and even our defense. trading for George, Kawhi or Klay who are each on a prove it season to get extensions.

All it may cost is dipo/lowry expiring as those teams are looking to shed salary.

Now if the clippers/warriors want herro/dipo for one of their stars.. that makes it interesting since we would still have a giant expiring in lowry which we can use to get another contributing player.

Not sure what the obsession is with washed players. Dame? Klay? Not the answer.

Absolutely you are not retaining Herro as Cuban is going to want something in return after he dealt some quality assets for Irving. I do want Hardaway Jr in return to slot into that two spot though for nostalgic reasons.

Kyrie Irving 5 year max contract comes out to roughly 272.2 million and if you do the math that comes out to roughly 54 per year. Lowry and Herro combined salaries come out to 56 million. Think about it

You can go back in time, and find plenty of tweets and youtube videos of Woj specially talking about both teams as preferred destinations. During that time WOJ was a mouthpiece for Brooklyn, and he continued to peddle over and over that Brooklyn outside of Bam package was not interested anything else from Miami. Phoenix owner pushed really hard and gave them a package they liked as soon as they were told he was available per Shams tweet after the trade. Miami had zero chance, one they were in the same conference two didn't have anything they liked, and Bam was not on the table.

LOL at Dame being washed

Damien Lillard is the best player available right now hands down. Would totally dominate Kyrie in a series.

Metta pls. Kyrie will despise Pat Riley. Our military style team is like the antithesis of what he’d thrive in.
