You think they have actually watched more than 10 minutes of Anthony Black rather than reading takes from Coach Spin and soaking up knowledge from the likes of Kevin O'Conner

Idk if I agree with this entirely but I do think he's more similar to a prime andre kind of player than a true full time PGEvanZ wrote:The way I look at AB is like an Iguodala with 50% of the tools.

I think it's the wrong Andre, I see more Andre Miller in his game than Andre Igoudala. Although I agree that we will see him do a lot of secondary creation a la Lonzo and Smart where the ball doesn't stick to him a ton but he gets a lot of assists (while still handling the ball a lot). Swing skill is obviously shooting, and I think his touch in other areas of his game is promising for him to be able to develop an average three-point shot. He's not going to be Ricky Rubio.

Re: Anthony Black - Arkansas
Another big swing skill for me is just advantage creation in general. Pretty poor burst and while his handle is good, it's nothing crazy so without being a + shooter he seems more like someone who just takes advantage of tilted defenses than someone who can tilt a defense, and not being a good shooter while being off ball isn't ideal. I think he's very good, top 7-ish but I can't get behind putting him 3/4 over higher upside bets, personallybabyjax13 wrote:K_chile22 wrote:Idk if I agree with this entirely but I do think he's more similar to a prime andre kind of player than a true full time PGEvanZ wrote:The way I look at AB is like an Iguodala with 50% of the tools.

Always love a good Doug Christie comp. He was so good. The only legit Pepperdine product I can remember. And yes I'm including Max Lewis.
I was right about 3 point shooting. I expect to be right about Tacko Fall. Some coach will figure out how to use Tacko Fall. This movement towards undersized centers will sweep ng back. Back to the basket scorers will return to the NBA.

not even close, Melo is mostly flash very little substance as a playmaker. AB has actual scalable BBIQ in ways Melo never had and will probably never have.

Clyde has "feelings". He had LaMelo 18th in that class so now he's obligated ot defend it forever.

Anthony Black has great vision but his decision-making and handle needs work, hence why his A:T ratio was only 1.3. Anyone who watches him with regularity should have been as frustrated as I was by this.

It's literally the biggest deal and the cause of every single argument in this forum. But sure.

Christie was a much better shooter. And had more of a defined role as a 2-guard, who was a defensive specialist but was also a good connective passer, really unselfish, moved the ball to find the open man, but could also hit 3's if left open. Could finish on the break or off cuts to the basket..He had a role (kind of in the Dan Majerle / Mario Elie type of mold) and it was proven that type of archetype contributed to winning. Basically 3&D role player 2-guards who were unselfish and had good toughness.
whereas Black has a less defined role. Is he a PG? Is he a 2? Is he a combo-wing? Can he be THE guy running the offense for a playoff team? Or if he better suited to playing next to a guy like Harden/Lillard/Luka as a secondary ball handler?
Perhaps being 6'7" and lacking shooting, perhaps he bulks a bit more and turns into more of a 4, or a combo 3-4 type of guy who can't shoot but does everything else well from the forward spot (kind of like Draymond) ?

nobody gets all of these right but idgaf about Melo either way, go read the Melo thread, my view of him has been spot on so far, a 20/10 guy in today's NBA just by virtue of on-ball usage but largely all flash with little to no substance, not a winning player and not a guy I want to be a leader of my team.
and Black's BBIQ is leaps and bounds better then Melo's on both sides of the court. wild that this is even disputable at this point.

Early Toronot Christie is a really nice comp, assuming AB gets his shooting together.

Re: Anthony Black - Arkansas
Lmao I wasn't a fan of him coming in either but he's very good lead his team to a winning record and was a Allstar the season before. Black will be lucky to be that type of player. Black doesn't even look to be a lead ball handler anyway.clyde21 wrote:mattao313 wrote:Lol its ok to be wrong sometimes it's not that big of a deal.EvanZ wrote:

He's a big Derrick white/NBA Lonzo Ball.

Sure, but he's 19 and his defensive decision making is so good that it will probably come around.
The big issue is the jumpshot. If he can learn how to shoot, he's so big, so good at getting to the paint, and so good at flopping that he could be an elite scorer.
Without a jumper, he probably ends up as a guy like Ricky Rubio (not exactly obviously) who can help you in the regular season but provides no value in the postseason.
The level of flopper Black is is really underrated because it's the most annoying skill, but Black is really really good at flopping for his age.

Re: Anthony Black - Arkansas
AB's A/TO ratio is actually impressive for an 18 yr old that was asked to run the entire offense on day one in the SEC
and it would look even better if anyone (and I mean anyone) on Arkansas can shoot a lick. Council shot 27% from 3 and he was the highest volume shooter on the team, second was Nick Smith and he shot 33% and only played 17 games, Brazile was actually shooting well at 38% but he only played 9 games, Walsh was at 29%, Mitchell bros werent shooting anything.
compare that to say...Lonzo Ball at UCLA, who had TJ Leaf who was shooting 47% from 3, Bryce Alford who was shooting 43%, Aaron Holiday who shot 41%, Isaac Hamilton who shot 41% from 3, put AB on that UCLA team and he's averaging 7-8 assists per like Zo did comfortably.
it's weird suggesting that the player with possibly the best BBIQ in the entire class needs 'better decision making'...if that's true for AB it's true even more for everyone else.
