Herro for Dame is one thing. Unlikely the Blazers accept without wanting Bam, but if we can pull it off great. Kyrie on the other hand, makes no sense. He's a net negative at this point and has repeatedly shown unwillingness to do the exact things that got us to the Finals this year. Spo might be able to whip him into shape sure, but its not a burden I'd care to put on him or the coaching staff.
A trade for Kyrie should be around picks and salary relief like Lowry/Dipo. They get picks instead of giving him up for nothing, Kyrie locks up a likely nauseating long term deal, and we upgrade without giving up any additional player assets. You can then maybe flip Herro for a real big man/low post presence to put next to Bam.
I can already tell this off season trade thread is going to be full of idiotic proposals by agenda driven 'fans' though.
Dallas already spent 2 good players and 3 draft assets to take a chance on Kyrie, they're not going to just move on from him now without getting a big return in a S&T, they just need to get the right types of players around Luka and Kyrie, a defensive wing would help them greatly... you know like the one they traded in DFS to get Kyrie. Dallas is doing the smart thing, they're going after the top tier talent even if they have warts.
Getting Lillard will be complicated, Portland already has Simons, Sharpe and some other younger players with talent, they should rebuild but who knows.
I'm curious to see if it actually plays out that way for Dallas. What you said makes sense, but if they didn't like what they saw from the experiment, they should move on despite the loss of assets. Its a sunk cost already. If Kyrie actually gets interest from other teams at the pay he wants, Dallas shouldn't see it as a necessity to match to keep him, just a necessity to get something good back. Unfortunately for them (and us), picks likely aren't going to cut it bc it will just infuriate Luka who wants to compete now. So they'll have to try to get a star back, which I can't see any team doing. They are really kind of stuck.
Agree with your take on Portland. They should rebuild and move on from Dame. They actually have assets to get a star next to him to try to compete though, and I can see them taking that route. They might go after Brown if the Celtics really start fielding offers for him.
