Re: Joel: unchained.
Doc was the same type of coach as Brett. Team needed an ideas guy as that was the reason we fired Brett after he had no other idea than DHO to death and didn't adjust quickly and often enough. The thought was also that he was too close to Ben and Biid and wouldn't get on them. So we hired Doc....who literally just got fired for not adjusting and cowtowing to his stars with the Clippers lol.
NOW part of this was the fact that Doc was a compromise candidate as Jo wanted D'Antoni and Ben wanted a Klutch guy in Lue....but it was a terrible compromise either way lol (and for once Ben might have been right lol)

The main reason we lost in the 2nd round because Embiid came back and disrupted chemistry.

That’s a different argument and that’s playing mind reader. Again, definitely not absolving Rivers. But him wilting and needing PJ Tucker for a pep talk isn’t on Glenn. I hate that I’m being forced to “defend” Rivers, but Jo not calling for the ball is not on Glenn. Him moping around like a sad boy whose dog died is not on Glenn. If anything, Glenn enabled him and allowed him to gun for the MVP HE wanted.
I'm playing mind reader! You wrote this "I think Jo knows Glenn isn’t the main reason they lost." and you know this how?
Because according to Morey, Joel was shocked to hear of Rivers being let go and didn’t want him gone.
Now, tell me why you essentially think Joel is so ignorant, that you “probably” know more about his coaching and why the team lost than he does.
always a jump shot away.

You can't be serious
The main reason we lost in the 2nd round is because 2 of our best players quit in game 7 along with incompetent coaching

My only concern is that we're just delaying the inevitable by not exploring trades at his peak reigning MVP value.Mik317 wrote:no blame Biid right now too ; just he's lower on the jettison into the sun list
Tremendous regular season player, but never had that playoff gear needed to persevere through a tough series, and I'm not one to believe that's something that can just be developed.
We could very well look back and regret not taking the opportunity to turn the page and retool now while his value could fetch a royal return.

Curious to know how far the sixers would go if their 2nd guy averaged 27/7/6 throughout the whole playoffs. I think that's getting lost in the odd Sixers/Embiid hate that has resurfaced for whatever reason.

Re: Joel: unchained.
Calling Embiid a fake MVP. Not realizing his stamina is **** when he is injured and he's been injured every playoffs. If you actually follow him you'll know his stamina has significantly improved during the regular season. The bigger issue is the small injuries during the playoffs.76Love wrote:eyeatoma wrote:76Love wrote:

Re: Joel: unchained.
yeah the talk about Biid being out of shape doesn't feel like it works this season lol. He was pretty good all year with his stamina...then he got hurt and never got that back.
its moreso the feeling bad for himself when things aren't going well that was the issue IMO. When he is off his game it snowballs...got to get better at that.

From what I heard from Derek Bodner and others, they said trading between now and next year doesn't make much difference. You are still going to get an ungodly trade package. As long as he's still in his prime and hasn't had a major injury he'll maintain that value. If by the Feb trade deadline things aren't looking good I think we hear rumblings and then he gets traded in the offseason.

Most likely Morey is also doing PR-speak to make Jo look good.
But even if true it means nothing. Jo "didn't want" Brett fired either. He's just a loyal guy and blames himself for the team not doing better.
If he REALLY cared that much about Glenn he'd issue a trade demand or do something drastic. Which of course didn't happen.
I think Jo knows Glenn isn’t the main reason they lost. That’s really my only point.
Embiid probably does not know what he does not know about coaching and how much a good coach can have a positive effect on his overall game.
He's going to find that out for the first time in his pro career next season.

The thing with Embiid is he has overcome each and every challenge thrown his way. Keep in mind people were referring to him as Greg Oden 2.0 for the first couple years he was in the league. He's maturing and as a man...a person, that takes time. Obviously the emo "poor me" stuff needs to stop. The flopping needs to stop too. He's a notorious flopper and he's still in this phase where he's always calling for fouls. The mental hurdles such as Nic Claxton or playing against Ben Simmons or going against Rudy Gobert. He just needs to play basketball and have fun doing it. Fun in fact...Should be the operative word for the 23-24 season. Lets get back to having fun.

No disrespect but, aside from just sitting out 2 years with financial and opportunity security for this hurdle, what else?
He may not be Greg Oden 2.0. But he’s quite injury prone and his endurance is poor. He sat out his first 2 seasons. Played 65 games on average from 3rd year to now. Has some type of injury where he can’t play 100% in all of his playoff seasons except in 2020 when he has to play 4 games.
Even Yao Ming had a couple of 80+ game seasons and this guy does not rest in the offseason for he has to play every year for his national team.
For what its worth, I think there was no need for him to make past 2nd round more than next season. Because i find him to have failed everyone who campaigned for his MVP this season.
If the 2021-2022 was “almost MVP” and 2022-2023 was “finally the MVP”
I hope 2022-2023 is “almost made it past 2nd round” and 2023-2024 will be “finally made it to the second round”. And alot of that depends on how healthy he’ll be.

Re: Joel: unchained.
To me it's about a hell of a lot more than simply "making it to the ECF" as if taking one more step is the end all, and putting enough band aids on every off season to plug holes without really building something that might last.
Look at the Nuggets - all they talked about was 'team' and winning more than one title. They have built something special there, and it's all about consistency and patience. The Heat as well - a solid culture, consistent leadership, and building a program where players want to play and are willing to sacrifice for the good of the team.
Maybe it can't be done in a place with as impatient and cynical a fan base like this, but if The Process proved one thing it's that Philly fans are willing to wait if the plan is a good one and is communicated properly. We've got a golden opportunity for a fresh start, take a step back and build something the right way. That said, I'd be shocked if it's the path that is taken.

Re: Joel: unchained.
We've gone from "If Ben can develop a jumpshot" to "if Joel can get past the second round".
Think about that, like now Jokic got robbed because Jo decided to win a damn award.
Jokic has had one coach throughout his career.

Bringing up Yao Ming is the perfect example to explain why Embiid is “load managed”. Sam Hinkie and Daryl Morey had front row seats to his precipitous decline in what should have been his prime.
I mean, aren’t we entering the year Yao retired (30) for Embiid?

Re: Joel: unchained.
Jo has yet to have a healthy 2nd round appearance. But what keeps this from being Yao or Oden is it’s not specifically a degenerative condition. He’s prone to flukey occipital fractures. One time it was a leg sprain on top of a stomach flu. He tore his hand muscles one time, hyper extended a knee another, got whacked in the side of the knee this time, when he got rolled on while lying on the floor, or something like that. Fragile? Yes. Probably too large for his undercarriage? Sure. But it ain’t degenerative so far.
When Sam was here a big part of his recovery program for Jo, beyond the world class doctors performing a Frankenstein procedure, was special training at that Qatar fitness center and the use of orthotics. I think he needs a Kareem like regimens. Lots of stretching to prevent sprains and tears. Develop economical movement on the offensive end to minimize air time and keep him on his feet. I can’t recall much happening to him on the defensive end, where he is capable of dominating, especially if you provide him a top level perimeter defense that allows him to roam the paint.
