I keep hearing this but I don't understand why they would. People seem to have succumbed to his PR teams narrative that the Blazers owe Lillard for his "loyalty" to the franchise. Zero loyalty has been displayed by Lillard. He's taken every nickle. He's hogged every ball. It appears that he's run off every other half decent player he's ever played with. In 11 seasons he's led the Blazers to ...

0 championships
0 NBA Finals
1 WCF loss (sweep)
2 WC semis losses (both 1-4 gentleman sweeps)
5 first round eliminations
2 division championships

And they've paid him $235 million for the honor, with another $216 million guaranteed coming his way. They even gave Lillard the Kobe deal.

What exactly do they owe this guy for?

They don't owe him, they owe their fans after building this fake loyalty persona all these years. I doubt they have the courage to turnheel

I'm sorry but after putting $450 million in his pocket, I'll trade him to Tel Aviv if they offer the best package. I don't see why their fans would be happier with ownership sending Lillard where he wants to go rather that accepting whatever deal makes the team they root for better going forward.

You might brother but the Blazers aren’t going to. If he’s gone he’ll be going to where he wants

One of the sticking points could be the length of Duncan's contract tbh

That damn contract continues to haunt hahahaha. Porzingis alone is probably the more realistic option with Lowry, Oladipo, and picks

I'd be very cautious sending out multiple picks for what could be a 1-year rental of Porzingis. Miami would need some sort of commitment for a KP extension.

Considering the working relationship with his agent Jeff Schwartz I don't see that being a problem whatsoever

DayofMourning wrote:Kyrie vs Dame. Whats the comparative cost? Theyre equal in my eyes from a bball standpoint. I might even tend towards Kyrie strictly from a bball standpoint. The "other stuff" they bring would mean a lot. Dame is an easy fit. Super easy.

Hes also going to be expensive. Miami really never gets off easy in trades and its not like our "assets" really look that great.

We will probably just end up drafting Terquovatious at pick 18....

The biggest difference with the two is completing a S&T for Kyrie would hard cap us and our salaries would cap out at 168mil (which we are currently over) and we couldn't go beyond that for any reason.

I think Dame's game is a better pairing to compliment Jimmy and Bam's games.

Numbers last season (Lillard 58gms - Kyrie 60gms)
- Lillard took and made more 3's - 244/658 to 188-496, (Kyrie's best year)
- Lillard a better PnR play maker - 425ast to 331ast
- Lillard gets to the rim more - rim makes/attempts 190/283 to 139/192
- Lillard gets to the FT line more - FTAs - 558 to 293 (Kyrie never shot more than 365 in his career, Lillard shot 400+ in 8yrs)

Lillard mostly a 3 and at the rim player which I think compliments Jimmy and Bam's games as they mostly operate in the mid range and rim. Lillard's ability to shoot 3's and get to the rim will open up more space for Bam and more open looks for our shooters.

Cost analysis I understand. But with the hard cap stuff and having to deal with Dallas. Lillard just fits in with the players and organization from top to bottom for me to justify paying the additional cost.

If Lillard's off the table then Kyrie would be worth looking at, but Dame would be my first option.

greg4012 wrote:Porzingis def scares me with his injury history, but damn that would be a sweet pairing next to Bam. I always thought he would opt out to seek a new deal this offseason (since he had his best and healthiest season). With that, I didn't think he was realistically in play for us. But, this news is encouraging.

Either way, I believe Washington entering a rebuild (which is the smart play for them) is very likely key for Miami being able to make moves to improve the roster without being absurdly price gouged (our outbid).

Miami trading Lowry, Herro, Duncan, and Oladipo plus 2-3 FRPs for Porzingis and Beal makes our squad extremely potent. It's also somewhat realistic considering (a) Porzingis is a 1-year rental before hitting free agency--he legitimately may be impossible to keep and (b) Beal has a no trade clause and is widely considered to be an albatross contract.

Vincent - Dragic - developmental prospect
Beal - Martin - vet min/developmental prospect
Butler - Martin - Highsmith
Bam - Jovic/Crowder
Porzingis - Vet min

Depth will be depleted, but that's the best and most balanced starting 5 in the league and realistically provides a reliable 8-man rotation

Porzingis or Beal would really help Miami but what you're talking about in that package might get you Beal, Miami definitely won't be getting both.

Porzingis wants to be a scorer, a scorer closer to the basket, outside of his injury issues, this was one of the issues Dallas had with him pairing up with Luka, Porzingis wanting to bring defenders near the basket leaving less room for Luka to attack. Spoelstra would make Butler, Bam and Porzingis work well, you'd have better defense, better rebounding and better scoring. His TS% in Washington has been the first season he's went over 60% TS%.

Beal... if Miami can find another starting PF, Beal is the VET offensive outside scorer they've been needing. He had a dip in the 21-22 season but for 4 of the last 5 seasons he's been the #1 option of a bad team and still putting up league average or better ORTGs and a TS% of around .580. Team him up with Spoelstra and I think he has much more efficient years with the Heat, you could run the offense through Beal and Bam for the first 3 quarters letting Butler play off the ball, making his cuts, somewhat saving his energy and near the end of the game Butler can go all out as the #1 with Beal able to space the floor with him... that is if Beal isn't already dominating the game, in that case you stick with Beal.

Both Porzingis and Beal have some power here, Porzingis opting in means either he's not getting what he wants from Washington in an extension or he just wants to play somewhere else because he sees the rebuild coming. Beal has the only no trade clause giving him a TON of power to say where he will go and with that, force Washington to take less in a trade or having to keep him and not really rebuilding. It's a great situation for Miami to try to acquire a difference maker because both would be that for Miami.

Trade Utah Herro for Olynyk, 12mil cash, #16 and #28 FRPs

Trade Either
Lowry, Robinson, #16, 2028, 2030 and 2027 FRP swap for Lillard
Lowry, Caleb, Oladipo, #16, 2028, 2030 and 2027 FRP swap for Lillard

We draft with our #18 pick and Utah's 28th picks.

Waive and stretch Oladipo if not traded.

Re sign Strus and Gabe

Re-sign Love to the 3mil min. (Mostly for locker room vibes)

I like it!

Forgot about KO! He’s the perfect back up C/PF for us, he might even be a buyout candidate. I think his contract is only like $3M guaranteed this season

Porzingis is Opting into his 36M Contract and becoming a free agent for 2024 offseason. That's what is being said by his people, so you can scratch him off the list unless your planning on trading for him on a one year rental.

I know Morant is high risk w off court issues and play style, but he should at least be considered as a last resort option if all else falls through should be become available.

Well, unless Miami is going to extend him. You find out why he's changed his mind in Washington (new FO) from extending with them which probably is because their either rebuilding or offering him less.

Washington committing to a rebuild could prove to be a Godsend for Miami. Porzingis opting in would create even more optionality on that front.

For the reasons you stated, I'm skeptical of the idea of Miami committing to a long term deal with Porzingis (curbing parts of the game he's best at and wants to pursue). But, maybe he's ready to enter the Brook Lopez with MIL phase of his career and actually win.

Love it!

Vincent/Pat Bev/Dragic
Beal/JRich/Cain
Butler/Martin/Highsmith
Bam/Crowder/Jovic
KP/KO/Orlando

That’d be a damn good offseason. My only complaint is I love having at least 1 3 point specialist on the team. I’d love to go after Alec Burks, he had a ridiculous shooting season. Maybe get him instead of Crowder and move Martin to the backup 4

Him opting in is exactly what makes him an option. If he was opting out, it wouldn't be realistic. The extension and payroll numbers would be a convo to be had depending on who Miami sends out in this hypo.

Too risky to mortage the house on.

This is a valid reason. The only reason I'd consider it is because it's Miami, Miami is one of the few teams that has a strong enough organization that could get him going into the right direction with his career/body. He's too big of a star for most teams/players to tell him what to do.

Not having a true movement shooter on the team def would call for a pivot in many of Spo's preferred offensive sets.

Porzingis opting in is exactly what Miami needs to avoid any S&T that could hard cap them.

So KPs agent is Schwartz who’s got a great Heat relationship and now he’s about to opt in to his contract that would be easier to trade.

ICCs soggy nuggets and watChOut both reported a couple hours before FA started that Beal was headed to Miami, then the KD request came out and Miami apparently pivoted to KD which in return led Beal to signing the Supermax with Washington which ended up working out better for him money wise and now he’s trade eligible.

Just trying to connect the dots :o

Wouldn't mind a smaller salary dump/exchange with Utah to acquire Sexton as Miami's starting PG as a low priced 20ppg guy. He's on a contract near what Robinson makes but way more production and he is an incredible worker.
