Re: Fake Trade Thread #5
I don't want Zion or Ingram. I'd rather keep Scoot/Miller. Will they be as good as Zion/Ingram are? Maybe not, in the case of Zion almost definitely not, but at least they play.
But If we pick Zion, we should launch a reality TV show called "Housewives of the Charlotte Hornets" featuring Zion, PJ, Miles and Melo.

Just imagine Zion on a diet of Bojangles, Moon pies and Cheerwine.
Might have to switch career and be a OL for the Panthers.

Zion and 14 could be interesting.

Yeah I think about that catastrophe at least twice a year.

Re: Fake Trade Thread #5
Zion may be the most extreme high risk / high reward player in the NBA.
When he's healthy and on the floor, he's an All-NBA first team player and an unstoppable offensive force shooting an absurd 60% from the field on a 16 shot/game volume. Recall that before he went down with the hamstring injury last year, he had the Pels sitting atop the western conference.
If you trade for him though and your gamble that he stays healthy fails, you're saddled with his max contact for years.
To even think about assuming that risk, I'd need Trey Murphy (still only 22 himself with a game very similar to Brandon Miller) and a strong future pick thrown in.

Trading for Zion is not something you do when you're working on selling the team. A risk of that magnitude (pun intended) should be left to new ownership to decide.

I don't understand the hate that trade received. I liked it at the time and still think it made sense. Brandon Wright, the player we drafted at #8 and swapped was utterly unremarkable while Richardson was a 20ppg scorer and deadeye 3pt shooter in the prime of his career.Liver_Pooty wrote:SWedd523 wrote:Liver_Pooty wrote:Zion and 14 could be interesting.

Even if we played the what-if game and looked at all the players drafted after # 8 we could have hypothetically selected, joakim Noah and Wilson Chandler were the only two players you could arguably say ended up having better careers than Jrich, and even that's debatable.

I mean it isn't exactly ideal to trade the 8th pick for anyone who only played 96 games for us. He had a really solid initial season for us though.

Assuming I could get background info that makes me comfortable that Zion could turn over a new leaf in CLT (a major unknown), I think I would do Zion + Murphy + 14 for Rozier + 2. I'm not interested in anything less than that.

that trade would eventually net us a couple years of Stephen Jackson and Boris Diaw, who got that iteration of the team its only playoff berth. That draft had a lot more misses than hits in the late lotto, I have a hard time complaining about the trade.
investigate Adam Silver

True, that's a big red flag in and of itself.

without the gift of hindsight, it's a bad trade every time

Meh, I'm not going to turn down a trade just on that basis. I'd do diligence and see if I could get independently comfortable.

Judging by his girlfriend's tweets, being comfortable is the least of his concerns

usually I would agree with this, but with the baby mama drama that just came out, I could se NO being ready to move on for that reason. You really have to do your homework and know about the injury history and feel good about it to pull the trigger.
After trading the 13th pick in last years draft for the 27th pick in this years draft, might be better if we just avoid trades.

Re: Fake Trade Thread #5
Regarding the Jason Richardson trade. First of all, I'm almost 100% convinced that Joakim Noah was our Target had we stayed at 8. He was heavily rumored to the Bobcats and I know we thought very highly of him. There was almost little to know rumors linking us to Brandon Wright ahead of the draft. That pic was only made for Golden State. Noah and his prime I think would have been a pretty damn good addition to the Bobcats.
We also absorbed Jason Richardson's contract into our cap space. So not only did we potentially give away the ability to add Noah on a team friendly contract for many years in his prime, we also gave away all the cap space we had that season to absorb richardson.
To be fair, Richardson did have a fairly solid season, although I do consider him an empty stats kind of player, who would be best as a third option on a good team due to his three-point shooting. And Richardson was part of the foundation to the trade that eventually led us to deal who had a pretty good season the year we went to the playoffs in 2010.
It's not the worst decision we've made on draft night, but it wasn't a good decision either, especially given the state of the franchise. We needed to add young talent and not waste it on an empty stat player like Richardson

Re: Fake Trade Thread #5
Another point to make regarding the Jason Richardson trade, pointed out to me by a stealth member of the board, the warriors were in cap Hill at that time. They had to trade to reduce salary. And we bent over backwards for them to help them out. We should have got a lot more out of that deal.
