How are they not sending anything in the deal? I say they ship us bench player Tari Eason and future considerations. Otherwise we keep Beal for a better deal, Harden likely re-signs in Philly, Houston has to chase who, Kyrie?
This is all based on the widely held belief that Harden is leaving Philly to resign with Houston. Houston can get him for nothing so they have no incentive to actually trade anything in this deal.
Harden has an incentive to sign with Philly though:The Sixers can offer Harden no more than $210.1 million over either a four- or five-year deal, while the Rockets can offer him a four-year, $201.7 million deal at most. Both can offer a starting salary of $46.9 million, but the Sixers can give him 8 percent annual raises, while the Rockets and other suitors can only give him 5 percent annual raises regardless of whether he signs outright with them as a free agent or joins them via a sign-and-trade
IF Philly decides they want to keep him, then the money is on their side. If they think they can replace him with Beal, then they may be willing to back off. Harden (and his agent) has incentive for this to be a real option. Sure, maybe he misses the Houston strip clubs and wants to retire into obscurity, while soaking up all the play time from the developing young players of the Rockets. Or maybe he wants to seem interested in the only other team that can offer him a real bump in salary.
Maybe Washington can tilt the deal if they can make it clear they think Beal is worth more than a salary dump and traded player exception. Philly has fewer re-build assets to offer. Houston is deep in exactly that. If Houston is trying to pivot and add veterans, they can afford to throw a little sauce our way. How about a developing asset who was still a bench player on a losing team? I want Eason. Plus a pick package.
Yes, if it comes down to money, the Sixers can offer more. But it is my understanding that the dollar difference between the two offers isn't going to sway Harden. Harden is going to go where he wants to go. I don't think Houston is so desperate to acquire him that they're going to work out a trade with Philly. They'll either sign him outright, or Harden will choose to stay in Philly. I don't think it's a scenario where Houston will be coerced to give up any value in the transaction.
Ultimately, it's pretty straightforward. If Harden stays in Philly, Beal isn't being traded there. If Harden goes to Houston, then Philly might scramble and arrange my proposed deal as a means of replacing Harden with Beal.

My point though is: The Knicks have 6 first round picks in the next 2 drafts. And five 2nd rounders including Detroit's. I fully expect they can offer a better deal for a rebuilding team, and a better market for Beal, than Philly. Beal wouldn't want to be surrounded by 11 developing players even if NY wanted to keep them. If he has approval over what is coming back, then New York can probably put together a better deal for the Wiz and Beal alike. Better than a big salary hole and an unknown something or other from Philly. If Philly, Houston, and Beal want to get something done, it's in their best interest to propose a package that the Wiz can sell to their fans. A traded player exception is sexy to nobody. Sells no tickets. Unlike a mess of new talent, no matter how raw.

Yeah I've always had Miami then New York 1-2 in the Beal list. Philly is on there but I think NY and Miami have better assets and better packages.

Re: Official Trade Thread Part XLV
Why is there such a huge difference in how Jaylen Brown's 300 million is looked as differently from Beal's? Is it Beal's entitled, 'this is my team' and attitude and the way Grundle and Tommy coddled him for so long? There is the age thing, I guess. Not sure being a COVID magnet qualifies as being injury prone, but maybe.
Once you make Brown a team's #1 guy, he's going to struggle as much as Beal, maybe even more. Switch Beal and Brown last season and I don't think the Celtics or the Wiz are much better or worse.
I say this as a certified Beal hater (mostly I hate on everyone, to be fair). I'm tired of Beal's act and I'm ready to move on. I just think paying Brown even more to do the same job would give the same results, including being fed up with him if he pulls the same act.

Yup. I want no part of Jalen Brown at his new salary. Brown only has Beal on age.

I'd say the difference between the two is that Brown is a quality defender.
You need a top tier offensive first option to win in this league. Most top tier offensive first options aren't great defenders - guys like Luka, Lillard, Trae, etc. If you add a high-cost 2nd-tier star to one of those guys, that star absolutely must be a good defender, even if he isn't quite as good on offense. I'd rather have a Lillard/Brown combo than a Lillard/Beal combo. I'd rather have a Luka/Brown combo than a Luka/Beal combo.
The only pairing where I think Beal makes sense over Brown as the #2 guy is if the #1 guy is a complete two-way player - somebody like Embiid or Giannis.

Brown has apparently slipped majorly defensively. All of the Boston-oriented national guys (Simmons, KOC) have said so.

Yeah, I've heard them say it too.
Maybe I'm wrong, but I figure that a 26-year-old doesn't just forget how to play D. Either he was playing hurt, or he was being asked to do too much on offense, or his defensive responsibility changed a lot this season, or maybe he just didn't jibe with the coach. But I find it hard to believe that his drop-off in D is permanent.
I get what you're saying about Brown being similar to Beal in that you love him at $35M but much less so at $50M. All I'm saying is that I'd still take Brown on a supermax over Beal on a supermax.
But fortunately, since we have new management, it looks like we're going to get out of this win-now mindset anyhow. As a rebuilding team, I don't really want either one. (If we were still in a "middle build", then I was in favor of Beal for Brown.)

Makes total sense for KP.
1) He'll make more money this year than he would of on a new deal
2) Being on a 1-year deal allows him to enter FA next year, but it also allows whatever team that has him to retain him with Bird Rights.
Whether this summer or the deadline, he can be traded to an over the cap team that he likes. This gives him another team to bid on him next summer. Watch for the Knicks, Warriors, and Suns...

Kp opting in makes sense, we can always extend him and if they have work a contender might want to trade for him and that's how he gets there that's smart. He is not a very valuable asset and a good vet player.

“And I don’t mean high, I mean low in the wake of the Rudy Gobert [trade] and what we saw Donovan Mitchell went for with what [Beal] got left on his contract and the fact that he controls the trade, you could potentially see a quote-unquote bargain star trade here, which is why you have some teams sniffing around this to see what the Wizards and then Beal decide to do,” Windhorst added.
In the Gobert trade, the Timberwolves gave up four unprotected first-round picks, a pick swap, and the rights to their last year’s first-rounder Walker Kessler and a slew of veterans, including Malik Beasley and Jarred Vanderbilt, which they packaged with Mike Conley, for another first-round selection (Los Angeles Lakers‘ 2027 top-four protected).
On the other hand, the Cleveland Cavaliers paid three unprotected first-round picks and two pick swaps, along with former lottery picks Lauri Markkanen, Collin Sexton and Ochai Agbaji for Mitchell to outbid the Knicks.
Windhorst added if the Wizards decide to move on from Beal, “it could be before the [NBA Draft] next week.”
The Knicks have all their first-round picks starting next year, and four with varying protections from other teams and a mix of young players on the rise and veterans on expiring deals at their disposal in any star trade.
The 29-year-old Beal has four years remaining on his five-year, $251 million supermax contract, with the last season a player option. A team who will trade for him will also inherit his no-trade clause.
Two years removed from his last All-Star appearance, Beal still averaged 23.2 points and 5.4 assists while shooting 50.6% from the field and 36.5% from deep this past season.
Knicks Analyst Pushes for Bradley Beal Trade
Alan Hahn, MSG Network’s studio and game analyst and ESPN commentator, pushes for the Knicks to become Beal’s next team if the Wizards decide to rebuild.
“There’s a team in the east that could use this player, and actually, they’ve been linked to him in the past. It’s the Knicks,” Hahn said on Get Up on Tuesday. “Put Beal next to Jalen Brunson, and you’ve got a backcourt that’s one of the best in the league as far as scoring goes — very unstoppable. And he is at a point in his career where he’s trying to be about winning. So, the Knicks have all the things that the Wizards would need — young players and draft picks.”
“I would imagine if he does become available, you would see the Knicks be very aggressive in trying to get him,” he added.

I'm guessing it's Beal to Miami for Herro, Oladipo, and #18 plus possibly Jovic and/or their 2029 pick.

Well, seems like we are tearing it down. As much as some posters here might celebrate, the reality is that tearing down a team is the easy part. Building a legitimate contender...now that's the harder part. I have my doubts as to whether or not Ted will have the patience to do this rebuild right but only time will tell.

I'd honestly rather watch a 22-win team with young players who give me hope, than watch a 35-win team that has no hope whatsoever.
