Evaluation of Jamahl Mosley ( did we miss a chance )
I seen another thread about coaching changes but I wanted to make the discussion about specifically did we miss a chance to upgrade. I struggle to believe we can groom and build a good head coach and good team at the same time. We don’t really have veteran leadership that’s battle tested and I think that’s key to player/team development and growth. We can’t do on the job training for both coach and team and be very successful and I think the last two seasons the record reflects that. I know we had injuries to start the season and that definitely contributed to the record, but how much better did we really get? We had the rookie of the year Paolo and Franz entering his second season so we naturally should have been better. Did coaching make us better, or did it naturally happen with the talent we have? There was several big name coaches to be had that came with big game experience ( even NBA championship experience) that we should have seriously had this talk. I would have liked to see what Mike Budenholzer could have done with Paolo after coaching Giannis. For those who believe in Mosley, what’s got you so sold on him that I’m missing?

mosley is a good coach for a young team. I think he can also be a good developmental coach.
Remains to be seen if he is good for a competing team.

If you have a Ferrari ( Paolo ) are you going to trust your Ferrari being worked on and tuned by a Ford dealership or your mom and pop corner garage? No you want a Ferrari dealership or someone that has definitely worked on Ferrari’s before. There was coaches out there that could have helped tune Paolo and develop him.

Re: Evaluation of Jamahl Mosley ( did we miss a chance )
I think we have time to grow with Mosley.
We are in this player development | establishing the core | team identity formation phase of the rebuild and a lot of things are happening fast thanks to Paolo and Franz. Having a developmental coach is critical for player development and establishing the core. Some chops as a system coach is needed to help us form a team identity.
I think Mosley grades out extremely well as a developmental and systems coach.
We also need a motivational coach to help us through the upcoming competitive but maybe non-playoff season. I think Mosley graded extremely well here as well.
Where the rubber meets the road is when we need a tactical coach for deep playoff runs and contention. But we've time for Mosley to develop that skill. Even if he doesn't get to the tactical level needed he could still be a good coach for our contention years as a player coach. We'll see, but I think he's great.

Name these available coaches you feel are “Ferrari Dealerships” in comparison to Moseley’s “Ford Dealership”.

I'm equally intrigued in an evaluation of WeHam. This front office seems particularly skilled in rebuilding and are development-focused. This is great for early stages of a rebuild like talent accumulation, player development, and establishing the core stages. They've been pretty future oriented so far which is fine, but I just wonder if they can transition into a balanced front office that focuses as much on maintaining a competitive team as they do on planning for the future. I'd also like them to be more analytically inclined which is really critical for team identity formation, competitive but non-playoff, and playoff contention stages.

Couldn't agree more. Man, I like your takes. I'm excited to see if they can figure out the next leg up.

I would have liked to see Mike Budenholzer.

Re: Evaluation of Jamahl Mosley ( did we miss a chance )
“Despite the dismal season in 2013-14, Hammond had also built the foundation for what would become a championship team with the Bucks before that season, by drafting Giannis Antetokounmpo and making a trade with the Detroit Pistons that included future All-Star Khris Middleton. Both Antetokounmpo and Middleton became the cornerstones for the Bucks' NBA Championship team in 2021.”
From Wikipedia I find that interesting as I didn’t know he was involved in drafting Giannis. Also with the Milwaukee roots I wonder if or why not there was any interest in Budenholzer.

Because he was under contract with Milwaukee until after this season?

Re: Evaluation of Jamahl Mosley ( did we miss a chance )
AG just called us out for changing coaches nearly every season. I think Mosely has done a great job developing the young players. He's not afraid to try new things. That was a knock on Clifford. He would never change up rotations or try players at different positions.

So you believe Mosely is the type of coach that’s going to lead us to the Finals?

Re: Evaluation of Jamahl Mosley ( did we miss a chance )
How do you know what someone is capable of doing if they are never given the chance? You have to let Mosley lead this team. The players have bought in, and if they make the playoffs next season with Mosley as coach, we can evaluate him then, although he's going to need more experience. Some of these coaches have many years of experiences in the playoffs before they win anything. Not every coach is lucky to win it on their first try.

Because even Giannis was questioning Budenholzer's lack of adjustments in the playoffs by the end of it.

Mosley will coach out his contract and continue to instill the toughness and things a young team needs. When the time comes to strike in FA of a trade for a star that’s when I see this FO making a big swing on a HC.
A scoring guard.. never heard of one.

He has absolutely earned the opportunity to try and win with the culture he’s trying to instill.

12 win improvement year over year? I think that's earned him a few more years to see what he can do. He has his warts don't get me wrong but coaches can improve as well.

If this season we increase our wins by say 10? Plus the positive upward developments of our core pieces now?
Yeah... that will earn him a little extension to see if he has what it takes to win in the ECF and finals

There is a lot of process and development between where we are today and the Finals.
Not all coaches are made for BOTH the rebuild wars and the contending wars.
