Re: The Brandon Miller Thread
One thing to keep in mind; guys like Ingram and Tatum were a whole year younger than Miller during their freshmen years. At that stage of development, a year gap is not insignificant.
For Miller's sake, I'd hope he would be better with his age difference.

The Ignite had worse spacing, yes, by a lot.SWedd523 wrote:So now the G League has less spacing and a worse supporting cast than Alabama?
Supporting cast was also much worse relative to competition. Alabama was a top team and would be a top team even without Miller.

Re: The Brandon Miller Thread
John Jenkins was the only player on the team that shot over 3.5 3's per game (he shot almost 8). Only 3 players (not counting a guy who played 8 games) made more than 1 per game, and one of them is almost 40.
Alabama shot 33% from 3 for the season, the Ignite shot 34%. While Alabama shot over 1k threes for the year. The Ignite were last in the G-league in 3pt attempts.
So, overall they shot similar %'s but shooting 3's was a part of Alabama's offense and an afterthought on the Ignite.
---------
Most of Scoot's teammates would've been college freshmen this year.
There are only 6 teenagers in the G-league, 5 of them are on the Ignite.
So compared to other G-league teams, the Ignite's most talented players are basically youth players. Which is what it's meant to be. But that also means Scoots supporting cast, relative to competition, was inexperienced and underdeveloped.
Ironically, to balance that youth out, the Ignite also had the oldest player in the league (Pooh Jeter, who is 39). As well as Jenkins and Southerland, who are 32yrs old. The 3 of them are all in the top 10 oldest G-leaguers.

There are a lot less busts on Miller's list. He's definitely the safer pick between the two. At worst he projects to be a solid starter.

I'd say Deni Avdjia for a bad outcome. Fellow 6'9 slow footed shooter.

Re: The Brandon Miller Thread
To be fair some of the names at the bottom of the scoot list are honestly a bit ridiculous. Mudiay? Really? Fultz? To be fair has actually been a really good player for Orlando recently. But for him to fail on that level, would require a complete mental breakdown of his shot. Even the Dennis Smith Jr comp is a bit ridiculous. Having watched Dennis Smith all season, whom I love, it's pretty easy to tell that scoot is clearly a notch above Dennis in terms of actual basketball ability on the offensive side.LofJ wrote:There are a lot less busts on Miller's list. Just like the Kevin Knox comparison for Miller is honestly probably ridiculous. I just included it for completeness of names I've heard, good bad and in between.
My gut says the floor projection for scoot is probably Eric Bledsoe and the floor projection for Miller probably Rashard Lewis MPJ. I don't see any way that either one of these guys aren't at least avg to high level starters.

Re: The Brandon Miller Thread
Miller just seems like the right pick for us. Scoot won't reach his full potential playing with Melo.
If you watch Miller his feel for the game is underrated. Yeah his handles is not elite, but he finds a way to get his shot. I think he is a superstar in the making if those handles improve. He reminds me of Danny Granger the most.

Re: The Brandon Miller Thread
I personally see Scoot being more likely to be a superstar but also being more likely to bust.
I still can't help but feel Miller will be a "solid but not exceptional" player.

Deni Avdija with better shooting is a good comp for Miller. I've yet to be impressed with his athleticism in any workout video or game tape.

Re: The Brandon Miller Thread
Probably under 10 guys in the NBA 6-7 or taller who could pull these two moves off

Tatum, Kawhi, Ingram, George, LeBron, Durant, Luka and Butler? Idk if I am missing anyone that size. Maybe it doesn’t translate for Miller, but this whole he can’t dribble stuff has gone way too far. Dude is a unicorn.

You are entitled to your own opinion, but that seems like a low ceiling for a guy who was the 2nd freshman in SEC history to win player of the year. The other player was Anthony Davis.
If he was just a shooter he wouldn't be in the conversation for the #2 overall pick. I think he is more of a Danny Granger type of player.

Re: The Brandon Miller Thread
Totally agree. His ball handling is actually pretty solid for a dude his size. People talk like this guy is just a spot up shooter. He's going to have the ball in his hands making plays off the dribble at the NBA level. Alabama mainly used him coming off screens. They ran a system but when it was crunch time Miller would create off the dribble.JMAC3 wrote:Probably under 10 guys in the NBA 6-7 or taller who could pull these two moves off

Re: The Brandon Miller Thread
Update
Both Woj and some draft guy on ESPN both said we are leaning Brandon Miller. And Woj even stamped it by saying we can put Miller's name in pencil for the #2 pick. They even said Scoot workout was more impressive, but they said Miller had mono which caused him to be out of shape.
Miller was our guy all along.

Pulls out for Iso, tween, cross, cross and fire a 3 yet he can’t dribble or create space.

Re: The Brandon Miller Thread
In all honesty, if you compare the draft profiles of Tatum and Miller (I know Miller is a little older), they’re very similar. I’m not saying Miller is Tatum per say, but writing him off is a little premature in my book.

I will say it sounds like it’s more up in the air and that they’re speculating a little.
