Re: Hollinger: League wide speculation that POR will trade Simons + #3 for “elite forward”
To me, the Hollinger speculation probably means Jaylen Brown. He'd be a guy you trade a top 3 pick and a high level scoring guard for.
I think if Brown was really available, Portland would part with Simons and Sharpe. That makes sense to me for Portland because you get the better player, but could Boston do better?
Maybe Portland does want Siakam, but my question is whether he is compatible with Jerami Grant - they seem pretty similar to me other than Siakam having the shot creation edge. The other consideration if Siakam is replacing Grant, is he that much better than JG and Simons who they will lose? That is a huge hunk of offense that I don't know if Siakam fills.

Absolutely not.
The guy is a walking red flag. He can't keep his weight down, has various lower extremity injuries (meniscus, foot, and hamstrings). He surrounds himself with an unprofessional team (his mother was once his dietitian when weight was his biggest concern
When he's been out he's been known to blow up in weight and apparently is too busy dealing with pornstars than taking his rehab seriously. And I'm sorry but his baby announcement shows horrific judgement skills as it has led to multiple women outbursts , how he didn't see that coming is wild
People compare him to Embiid but Embiid was dealing with one bad foot injury that took years to come back from, Zion is fat with a compromised lower body and immaturity issues.
This guy isn't a Kawhi buy low he's a death sentence for a dumb GM waiting to happen
The team would have to get Moriah Mills signed to a deal as well. No thanks.

I'd do Siakam for Zion in a heartbeat.

According to Windhorst...the Blazers and Dame are still very much tied to each other...that's what I like to hear.

There is no scenario where I would take Zion on the team, let alone for Siakam. IMO his weight issues will never go away,

I am pretty sure it said Sharpe was not available in conjunction with #3, not that Sharpe is off the table completely.
Either way - that is all posturing. If the Blazers are trading #3 to go all in with Dame they are 100% not gonna make Sharpe untouchable and be weirdly stuck between two eras.
You are exactly right. It is crazy how people do not exercise their reading comprehension some times en masse. We are all guilty of this once in a while, but it seems like 90% of people who read the quote did not comprehend the very careful wording:"Trail Blazers officials have left inquiring teams with the impression that Shaedon Sharpe, the No. 7 pick in last year's draft, is off limits in any dialogue regarding the No. 3 pick."
They did not say Sharpe was off limits period. They said in discussions regarding the 3rd pick. To be fair this could mean he is off limits period, or it could mean they realize they need multiple pieces to contend and cannot package the 3rd pick and Sharpe together because there are no players realistically available worth both so they will explore separate deals. I think the latter makes more sense otherwise why bother adding the last part of that sentence.
I am also a huge Sharpe fan by the way and would love to pair him with Scottie, but I think the fans likely value him higher than the FO. When he was playing next to Dame and they were trying to win he looked like a raw rookie with some flashes. The Blazers FO must know how rare it is to contend with a 20 year old as your 3rd or 4th best player when that player did not even make an All-Rookie team.
As I said in the first post, this has been known locally for some time. I don't really care what caveat the national media tossed in there (most of them say that Dame is being traded too). Anyone in the media around Portland has known and said that Shaedon Sharpe isn't being traded outside of the twilight zone world where Embiid becomes available. Other than that, Sharpe will be the starting SG for the Blazers next season. By all means, keep throwing him the fake trades, I'm just saying, it's been clear locally that Sharpe is not headed out.
Local beat writers don't know ****.
This much is true - if Portland wants to try and make a run with Dame it makes 0 sense to hang onto Sharpe unless you expect him to take a leap to all-star within 12 months. Odds are that is not happening, so from a purely "aligning the timelines" standpoint Sharpe should be gone.
Not saying trading Sharpe is smart, but trading the #3 pick for immediate help and then hanging onto Sharpe just means they won't win this year, and then they won't add pieces to help Sharpe once Dame retires, and then Sharpe leaves in FA anyway cause they will be **** in 5 years when Dame/(Pascal/whoever) fall off.
The only thing stupider than trading Sharpe is trading #3 and keeping Sharpe.

With that trade package on the table, they have to consider it. That is three rotation players and one who could be your PG of the future.
Jaylen has wanted out of Boston for years. Just listen to the way he talks about the fans there.
He said: "I have, but I pretty much block it all out. It's not the whole Celtic fan base, but it is a part of the fan base that exists within the Celtic nation that is problematic. If you have a bad game, they tie it to your personal character."

Losing at home in the playoffs the way they did has to have consequences and Brown was a major part of the failure.
Maybe Boston could involve Washington to get Beal back instead of the Portland package, but I think they will move on some way for both their sakes.

Boston doesn't need or want a 3rd pick another team would have to be involved

I can’t get idea of three-way with Portland and NO with news of Zion wanting to go to NY.
I’ve liked Trey for a long time. Such a good fit next to Scottie too.

Pretty sure Murphy is untouchable. I think the idea is to rid themselves of Zion and build around Trey. I am sure they would move CJ if there are any takers, which is doubtful.
If he were available, I would give up a lot. He's going to be a good one.

Of course getting that kind of money changes things but I wonder about how this will play out.
I am not a numbers guy but if Boston signs Brown to a super max along with Tatum, I am not sure how they can put players around that roster. It would seem tough to get better in that situation.

I was having this conversation with a Celtics fan, when I told him have fun supermax-ing them both. He replied that it was a good problem to have. Um no, this is an actual problem and the Celtics are in trouble as a result IMO.

Brown isn’t getting traded he’s getting that max. Beal is washed. Pels would rather trade Zion than Ingram according to sources. Siakam is the best player available let’s goooo!
