I think this is really really a good point. No one would have thought Zion would be available. We’re now hearing more about Toronto willing to reboot with the first actual reports of Siakam being potentially available. I think other situations could pop up as well. Even with Jaylen Brown… all reports now are that they want to focus on extending him… but is that true?
we don't know much but we can surmise a few things
* the history is pretty solid that after the lottery dust settles and teams really start focusing on top prospects, the value of top picks increases. That's even more true as teams digest the NBA finals and realize how far away they truly are from contention, and what they need
* Portland has more options than people were crediting weeks ago, and those options are increasing. I mean, Zion and Ingram have suddenly entered the auction zone. I think Portland has more leverage than people were crediting as well. Of course, they'd have even more if they had the 2nd pick...damn Hornets!
* All the chatter about Dame has been idiotic. He's not as intent on forcing the Blazers hand as people have been claiming and while he may be closer to leaving than he has ever been, he's still a long ways from asking out, and may very well never do so, no matter what Portland does. And a couple of posters here will hate that
I'm sure if Dame was making more noise behind closed doors about needing a trade or suggesting he might not be happy, we might see the Blazers takes offers on him. All the reports show that they don't intend to trade Dame, now we don't know if this will be the case once free agency really begins but for now it's not happening.
If Dame is committed to this team for the next 4-5 years I really am not as attached to Scoot as normal. I think Scoot would be a great pickup in a post Dame world but we likely would trade him or the pick if Dame is intent on staying. Dame still has plenty of great years ahead of him like he said he is nowhere near CP3's age.
We also would have trouble giving the minutes Scoot requires to really develop well, Scoot as the starting PG on day 1 would massively accelerate his development and that is unlikely.
