Wouldnt shock me if his market is so dry he signs a one year prove it deal back with Miami.
Gabe stock went way up at the playoffs.. he will definitely get paid that 9-12 million per season by some team which is too rich for us when we are trying to land Dame..
Gabe idk hit you 100% could’ve got something for Strus at the deadline and before the season started you could’ve got a 1st from a contender based on him leading all jump shooters in the league at 1.23 PPP on jump shots last year

Note: For 2022-2023, the data ends before the Finals, so Miami is actually better. I still have some web scraping to do.
It kinda sucks rooting for a franchise who doesn't really care about winning a title and really favors profits. It's exactly why I quit being a Bulls fan. The dumping of all-star Luol Deng for A.Bynum so they could waive him to save 12 million dollars right before his guarantee set in and the old 2 transaction trade with OKC to dump McDermott and Gibson for Payne, Morrow and Lauvergne were about the last straws and cemented my understanding they were all about profits and without Jordan that franchise would have won nothing.
Miami fans are extremely lucky to have one of the best run organizations in the NBA.
Yeah, but to be a Bulls fan in the 90s and watch them get past Detroit and what happened after!
Sure, it was a great time! Since Riensdorff didn't want to keep spending money, the team was broke up and the next 4 years after that Chicago won... 13, 17, 15 and 21 games. They also drafted E.Brand #1, he was a 20 and 10 rookie PF and they instantly traded him to get Tyson Chandler. Although I think Riley has miscalculated in these last 4 years and possibly cost the franchise a championship by not going all in, it could be worse, a lot worse. It's a terrible feeling to know you're basically a farm team for the rest of the league, not because the team isn't making profits, they were making an incredible amount of profits and really tried to maximize that instead of keep building the roster. They even went super cheap on the coaching for a long time, they kept firing and hiring head coaches that had never been a head coach in their career. When Vinnie Del Negro got hired as head coach he had never coached at any level but he had a great power point presentation that he showed the owner while he was on vacation in Arizona. It's just a bad franchise that got lucky that Portland passed on MJ because they drafted Drexler the previous year.

There's a lot of delusional hopium in this thread, but asking a team to give us assets in a sign-and-trade for GABE and/or STRUS has to top the list. If it was intentional humor, then bravo.
Better retain them then, bad asset management to let them walk for nothing.
Liking the little obsession you have going for me lately
Nah, there's too many posts in this thread to respond to everything so I let most of it go, but I stop when I see something REALLY ridiculous (like Dame better than Steph or teams giving us something in S&T for Gabe/Strus) lol. Just so happened to be from you a few times.

I never said Dame was better than Steph, could argue SGA had a better season than Steph. Doesn’t mean he’s better. Nba thinks Embiid had a better season than Giannis, is he better? Hell nah.
Your comprehension might just be off it seems

Getting something for Strus at the deadline while he's under contract is different to getting something for him in a S&T once he's an unrestricted FA.
Both Gabe and Strus' market would be anywhere from 6.8-12mil (Mini MLE/Full MLE) and any team who's salaries are low enough to facilitate a S&T being below the apron would have access to either of these exceptions. So there wouldn't be much reason for them to want to trade any assets rather than just giving them a contract.
Unless its a situation they'd rather replace someone on their roster with Strus and Gabe and would send them our way. Also if we are going to S&T them why not just re-sign them for the amount they are getting?

Yea I agree is definitely different but that’s why to me it would also be bad asset management to not capitalize on that if we never planned on keeping them. Kind of like Nunn, DJJ, etc. at least get some 2nds or something if you don’t want to keep them, especially after we saw 2nds moving like crazy at the deadline for solid rotation pieces like the young Saddiq Bey
Couldn’t we sign and trade them to a team with cap space like the rockets and not take any salary back or half the salary for a decent vet or something? Or some 2nds

From Miami's perspective, at the time they probably assumed they would retain them. But if a better option comes along like Beal or Lillard then they would be okay letting them walk. If we miss out on both I wouldn't be surprised if we circle back to them to bring them back.

I can't decide if I'd prefer they get like a top 10-12 protected 2028 FRP instead of this pick. Feel like we could really use the young talent with this next part of the build.
But on the flip side it could leave us pretty handicapped once Beal/Bam/Butler's deals expire and we try to re-tool around Bam's prime, unless we think Jimmy will still be around another 4yrs when he's 38.
But I guess by then we will have unlocked another 4 years of picks.

Great read and exactly some of the cap scenarios i have been taking about. Need to dump Lowry and Oladipo’s salaries.

The fact that Washington fans are even saying they'd just prefer the expiring's and a pick and not include Herro has to tell you something about how much Washington and its fans want to move on from Beal and finally start this rebuild.

That was one goofy fan. Most of them are really happy to be getting Herro

Bobby Marks mentioned giving up 2028 top 10 protected first in hypothetical trade. Prefer giving that up and keeping our 18th pick for a cheap bench rotation player locked up

Barely survived not having Gabe out there in the Playoffs, hopefully we do well in replacing Gabe/Lowry-- cause look certain to lose both

If Wiz want a 1st rd pick it’s necessary they take Robinson attached to Herro. We need Lowry’s 30 mil off the books this year or next.
