What would be his first year number, 17 million?

And then you match that offer sheet. Instead we tied ourselves up to 27 million on its first year and we are now trying to figure out how the hell do we move that contract should we get Beal or Dame. Because we are not going to be paying 70 million on one position.

Awful contract, awful cap management. We would have a different conversation right now about our tax issues if we didnt give him that deal, on a season Herro regressed by the way.

Not to mention he is a revolving door defensively and inefficient as hell. Would we even need to pursue a guard right now if Herro was worth a damn?

It literally isn’t. Poole is objectively a worse contract. RJ has the same contract and is not a materially better player.

People need to adjust their expectations in the new cap era. Decent role players get $20 mill these days

The new cap era is pushing max and minimum players, the middle class may start disappearing.

I think we need to look at this from a relative perspective and that things are fluid. Herro at the time he signed his contract it was at par with market value or a slight over pay. Then next season Herro plays ok but was hurt in the playoffs. The real killer is new CBA which now makes his slightly over paid contract at the time more on the negative side. This is mainly because Herro was hurt in the playoffs. Say Herro had a break out playoffs, his contract would be seen in a different light and more of a positive. Again all of this is fluid. Right now Herro is at his lowest. The new CBA will have unintended consequences for players like Grant this offseason. Before he would get a 30+ contract, now it seems highly unlikely.

No... he's nowhere near worth his new contract unless you only care about PPG. For such a good 3pt shooter he's no very efficient even though he has the green light. It's been reported that Spoelstra has to keep talking about his shot selections yet he doesn't seem to care what he's told, this is the type of offensive player that can make you lose playoff games... oh, and toss in he's probably the worst defensive player on the court when Trae Young isn't on the court he's just a bad player. Find a trade to a team that the FO doesn't care about championship aspirations like Minnesota, Charolotte or even Chicago.

Now if Herro limited his game, became a catch and shoot SG and gave good effort on the defensive end, I he could be a high level SG, but he's not going to limit his game like that which is a pity, because pressure doesn't really bother him but neither does Spoelstra talking to him about his bad shot selection.

Isn't it weird Miami has had great success in the playoffs the last 2 years without Herro? Is it also weird they underachieved greatly when he became a starter and Miami had 3 20 ppg guys and the same bench that did pretty well in the playoffs? There's only one common trait in all 3 of those situations, a ton of Herro.

Hero’s contract is fine, with a bigger role on another team, his numbers would explode.

Plus he’s very marketable and flashy someone’s gonna him up.

And then what?

I get the marketing aspect but does his game help you win when he's not all that efficient and a negative on the defensive end?

Yeah, with the cap hardening some, the stars are either going to want to just play with other stars (meaning no cap space for anyone but near minimum level contracts) or are wanting to get the max and not everyone can keep affording 3+ huge contracts so the "stars" spread out throughout the league with some players not worth a max getting a max. Miami is going to have to figure out in the next year or 2 with their salaries. Luckily 2 maxes on Miami's team are 2 way players which should help greatly. Welcome to parity!

He needs to be on a team with a true shot blocker down low. He's very much in the realm of a richer JJ Reddick. They both have the same 6'3 wingspan but Herro is a bit bigger and has more dribbling to his game. Get Herro on a team that can protect him with a player down low and he'll be fine.

Herro is going to end up going in this trade one way or the other. The same case Barry just made for Ayton can be said about Herro for the Wiz. He would actually in the mean time fill an immediate need since the Wiz have Gafford on the cheap at C if they deal Zinger.

The Heat’s offer to the Wizards is believed to be built around the expiring contract of guard Kyle Lowry and could also include either Duncan Robinson or Victor Oladipo to help fulfill the salary-cap matching component of the deal. The Heat is also expected to include at least one first-round pick in its package. The Heat is believed to prefer a Lowry/Robinson package; that likely would result in a much lower luxury tax bill in 2024-25 and 2025-26 than a Lowry/Oladipo package

Taking from the proposed rumor trade by Barry. Here is an outlook how I think it could play out.

1st Trade
Miami Recs: Bradley Beal
Washington Wizards Recs: Kyle Lowry, Duncan Robinson, 18th 2023 pick
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2nd Trade
Miami Heat Recs: Terry Rozier, Nic Richards, 27th Pick 2023, 41st Pick 2023, 2026 1st round pick
Charlotte Hornets Recs: Tyler Herro
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
3rd Trade
Miami Heat Recs: Nic Richards, Victor Oladipo
Charlotte Hornets Recs: Kelly Olynyk
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Miami Heat Roster

PG: Terry Rozier
SG: Bradley Beal
SF: Jimmy Butler - Caleb Martin - Jamal Cain
PF: Kelly Olynyk - Kevin Love - Nikola Jovic - Haywood Highsmith
Ce: Bam Adebayo - Kelly Olynk - Orlando Robinson

27th Draft Pick 2023, 41st Draft Pick 2023, UDFA. UDFA

Before adding Love, Cain, and ORob salary, this will cut this years salary and save 4 mill dollars making the total 171 mill.

If Herro is to be rerouted then Hornets out of every team in the NBA aside from the Wiz make the most sense as a landing spot for Herro. They also hold Hayward’s huge expiring. I would assume Miami does everything it can to reunite the Martin bros here. Herro for the Hornets is also big for them as it’s a huge draw for PJ Washington to stay with his college bud.

Thinking more about the games Beals missed in recent years and I’m thinking it’s overblown. We had a 64 game season and 72 game season in there, not all full 82 game season and didn’t this dude have like at least 5 different stints of missing time due to Covid health and safety protocols? Like back when it was at minimum 10 days quarantine too I believe.

I’d like to find a way to filter his games missed from Covid out to get a better idea of his recent injury history

So sounds like wizards are demanding Duncan but we’re trying to keep him out if possible. So it’s gotta be Lowry Dipo and a 1st or something

Clearly they want to take D-ROB, and the pick(s) attached for doing the service of removing D-ROB from our payroll.....

I am not entirely against that. I like Duncan the player, but not the salary.

Return to Miami Heat
