Can we talk Jordan Hawkins specifically?
It’s draft week and I know there are several threads talking about this but I want to talk specifically in this about Jordan Hawkins. Hawkins tape is impressive showing just how much he moves and how hard he works to get shots running all over the place. He reminds me ( not saying he’s this good ) off a Ray Allen or JJ Redick the way he’s constantly moving, running, and using screens to get open and drain shots. Running pick and roll with Paolo slashing to the rim, with Franz popping out for passes at the elbow and Hawkins spotting up on the 3 point line gives us three totally different options that could be very effective for scoring. I know we need a point guard that excels in running the pick and roll to make this even more effective as that doesn’t seem to be a strength we have at this time. But if it was Hawkins at 11 would this be a good fit? His cardio and usage of screens looks like a nightmare for defenders and like it could/would open up the paint for Paolo and other slashers.

I like Hawkins more than Dick, tbh. I think Hawkins is the best 3 pt shooter in this draft and he should be there at 11. That is just my personal opinion

Does he fit right away or is it a matter of needing the right PG to make this work?

Also do we know if he’s worked out for Orlando? Word out there is he’s been killing it in his workouts with his shooting.

We don't need a capable PG to make this work. We need Shooting desperately and we need spacing to go along with Franz and Paolo. I think this is the key reason we need a 3 point expert in Hawkins

You brought up Hawkins over Grady so I’ll ask this. Is Grady Dick similar to Franz? In this scenario I see Paolo, Franz, and Hawkins being a better fit. If we did take Grady at 6 and Hawkins at 11 one of them is definitely coming off the bench and that might not even be a bad situation for us.

Re: Can we talk Jordan Hawkins specifically?
Love this guy and the way he plays translates directly to the NBA, IMO. I especially love him at 11...I have doubts about Dick's ability to play the 2 as effectively as Hawkins projects. I'd be happy with either (or both?), but I'm definitely keen on Hawkins.
I'd consider trading #6, if I felt it was likely that Hawkins would be there at 11.

I do not value Grady's ceiling and I think he is only going to be a good shooter like Heurter or JJ Redick. There is no way I'd pick him at 6.
But at 11, it is a different story. To me, Hawkins is a pure shooter plus his ability to get open. I just like him more personally

Re: Can we talk Jordan Hawkins specifically?
If Hawkins is the better fit then there are a few ways we can do this. First if he’s the guy we just take him at 6 and make sure we have him. He’s not projected that high but if he’s the guy and we don’t want to take a chance we just draft him and deal with it. Taking him early causes someone to fall to 11 we ( or other teams ) didn’t plan on being there at 11 creating a possible trade situation and increasing the possible value of 11th pick if we wanted to move off it. I don’t like the idea of passing on two players that can help unless it’s a good deal that helps us. Second we take the best player available at 6 despite the fit for us ( even could be Grady ) and trade with Utah or Dallas at 9 or 10 for them to take Hawkins for us and swap players along with future picks and or players. I’m that situation what do we do with pick 11 becomes the situation. Ummm Taylor Hendricks ?

Dick at 6 and Hawkins at 11. Go all-in on shooting!

Maybe the Rockets is looking to trade Kevin Porter Jr. That might be a good deal.

That’s also not a bad idea and it strengthens the bench. Hawkins would be a better fit starting with Paolo and Franz IMO. Grady could come off the bench in place of Franz and give us insurance for injuries.

I like him. But i think he might be a stretch at 11. Dick might be more realistic. Dick size is better lol
Hawkins doesn’t have the pullup jumper game, but his ability to create shots off screens is also a vital shot creation, imo. Because he draws the defense out sometimes even two players because of the gravity he has coming off screens.

That's probably close to the last thing this front office would do. Porter has some mental problems.drsd wrote:Skybox wrote:I'd consider trading #6,.

I tend to agree, but it depends on if they want to appease Paolo. He's said in the past the two players he'd love to play with are Dejounte Murray and Kevin Porter Jr. This was before last season though, so maybe (hopefully) he doesn't give a hoot anymore.

Re: Can we talk Jordan Hawkins specifically?
How I rank the shooters in this draft after pick 4:
1. Gradey Dick - 6’7, can shoot off the dribble, off screens, and can get to the rim. Not as great defensively right now.
2. Kobe Bufkin - most “two way” guy out of the shooters. Good on catch and shoot and mid range. Off the dribble from 3 not so much. Probably the most energetic too. He’s a 3-level scorer.
3a. Brice Sensabaugh - Best shooter off the dribble and from catch and shoot from anywhere on the floor. Gradey was close to him statistically, but Sensabaugh had crazy volume. Extremely questionable in every other facet of the game.
3b. Jordan Hawkins - Good off screens and catch and shoot. Not as great off the dribble. Is a better defender than Gradey but not as much.
3c. Keyonte George - Undersized guard that creates offense. Creates too many turnovers to be a true combo guard. Closer to Eric Gordon than McCollum.
4a. Dariq Whitehead - the most overlooked shooter in this draft. Two-way guy. Could become the best guy depending on where he lands. Dropped because of injuries
4b. Jett Howard - also getting overlooked. Huge wing. Not great defensively one dimensional.
Hawkins is in a draft where there are more options at SG. He’s not great shooting off the ball or at the rim. He’s a higher volume skinny Gary Harris basically.
