Would probably cost even more than Scoot.
Restarting team probably doesn't mean trading 21 years old allstar

Bensational wrote:Portland and Washington could do a 3 + Simons for KP + 8 swap.
Then Portland shops the 8 with Nurkic + Little (salary filler) for another veteran like LaVine, DeRozan + Caruso, Ben Simmons, Jordan Poole, etc.
KP
Grant
LaVine
Sharpe
Lillard
That’s some firepower. Blazers all in.

Lack of defense & depth would be the death of that team.
I really dont see a scenario where the Blazers can become a contender. Even with lucking out with the 3rd pick, they'll need to trade a whole lotta future 1sts to get a 3 & D player 2 or 3 also (which they need, preferiably PG, maybe Ingram or OG) and get players to provide good depth too. I don't think they're willing to trade their next 3/4 future 1sts to make that happen
They just needa rebuild.

If they could bring that team together I think they definitely should take a swing with it. People forget Dame was in the conference finals just 3 seasons ago with Nurkic and CJ as his help. Dame is still one of the few players who puts you in contention if you get him enough help, and they don’t come along very often - but they can rebuild any time.

I disagree. Yes, Dame brought the Blazers to the conference finals 3 years ago. But that was 3 years ago and he hasn't done anything since despite the Blazers trying to build a team around him. They really need to trade him and rebuild.
And even though they can rebuild anytime they will a have nice young core in Simons, Sharpe, and the 3rd pick (Scoot) and whatever picks they may get in a Miami trade. They shouldn't trade these pieces in an ill advise attempt at a ring. There is no promise their future rebuild will be as good as it will be now.
That Dame/Miami pairing should really happen.

That’s definitely one way to go, I don’t disagree with people thinking that way and I’d love to see Dame in Miami. But for me the goal is a ring and Dame is probably half of a good 2-man solution (plus good supporting cast) away from a contending team. If a team gets hot in the playoffs they can get to the finals.
There will be another Scoot Henderson or Brandon Miller in a few years time who they can tank for then.

The magic are still very young and years from actually competing. By the time the heat run frizzles out the magic will then take their place. The warriors for example drafted Curry in 2009 and didn't win their first championship until 2015. Denver drafted Joker in 2016 but didn't win their first championship until 2023.

Yah patience is the key. the Suns it was year 6 of Devin Booker when they became good.
We need a solid 4-5 years from drafting Suggs and Franz. gives the Paolo and the new guys time to develop...maybe our peak years are years 6-9 of Franz and Suggs, guys are still on their first extensions or young guys have been consolidated for veteran star(s). That would be 2026-27.
Seems like everybody is ready to start cashing their IRAS out now before the accounts have really developed.
