I don't want to see him again as a Buck unless he is the 6th man, and Portis starts.

We literally wasted Portis prime year and got eliminated by Boston, cause Bud was in love with the Disney Giant Boy and the drop defense.

I think there are ways to play Brook without drop. It just requires more than Bud’s mostly either drop or full switch philosophies.

You could have Brook hedge/trap and use his size to block vision/passing lanes. You could do preswitching to get Brook off the screener. You could play some unique zone sets to keep Brook near the rim. Even just mixing up defenses would cause a bit of confusion.

With Giannis out there to cover extra ground, there are a lot of ways to get creative. Bud just didn’t want to get creative outside of random 2-3 unpracticed panic zone defenses he would throw out there if drop and full switch didn’t work.

There were games during the season that the Bucks closed out wins against playoff teams with both Brook and Ingles out there on the floor.

You don’t need five elite ultra quick defenders to have a good defense. And simply tossing Portis out there instead of Brook won’t fix defensive issues they had against the Heat, as we saw in the regular season without Brook when there was zero rim protection.

You have to wonder what Simons is on a good team. Is he JJ Redick with more shot creation, or is he Dennis Schroeder with worse defense?

I’d add him to the Simons and Rozier category of scoring guards that would be great to add to Jrue/Midds/Giannis/Brook.

Really any guard who can attack the rim is going to have their game skyrocket playing with Giannis because of how much attention Giannis draws even when he doesn’t have the ball.

Even Ingles was able to get looks at the rim. Imagine someone with actual NBA athleticism attacking the rim.

Didn’t a bunch of us want Lou a couple years back as a gunner off the bench? Would a gunner off the bench changed the outcome against the Celtics when no one besides Giannis could even get a shot off most of the time?

Other than 15 years younger, more efficient, and improving every year he's got a lot in common with Lou.

Amazing how dumb some takes are on this board.

yeah maaaaybe the style but williams in his entire career never sniffed the volume and efficiency simons got just last year at age 23.

lou is like simons lite. if you said it that way it would make more sense

I think he may be better than peak Lou, but it is entirely possible that's the sort of role he ultimately settles into on a contender. I think, entering his age 24 season and continuing to show improvement, he's the kind of guy I'd love to gamble on.

Having said that, I don't see a path to acquiring him that doesn't involve Jrue or Middleton and I don't think I'd move either of them for him.

It wasn't consistent, but Lou definitely hit that level and then some here and there. At age 30 he was at 28/5 per 36 on the Lakers with a TS% of 61%. He was at 27/7 per 36 with the Clippers at 32 years old too on a lower 55.4% TS%. For comparison, Simons was at 22ish and 5ish the last two years per 36 on 58% TS% (but as I noted in an earlier post, was significantly better both in terms of volume and efficiency when Lillard was out).

Here they are at the same stages of their careers:

Obviously the difference is volume of 3FGA/game, but that's the era more than anything.

I just hope something happens this offseason. It could be credibly argued that running it back gives us the best chance but it'd be hard to hold any attention in the coming regular season if they do. It was hard at times this past season.

And yes please to Sexton.

Simons, Little, and #23 for Jrue is a bit light but I'd be sorely tempted. Feels like the Bucks would need another asset but maybe there's a third team to loop in -- the Blazers would still have #3 and Nurk's salary slot to work with.

i meant more like as a 3 pt gunner. simons pulled 9.1 3s last year per/36 at 38%. lous year with the lakers did get up there that year but never really again. his efficency that year on ts% was a weird outlier where is ft rate was waaaay higher for some reason than any other time.

but ft rate breaks down the comparison anyway because lou got to the line alot and simons hardly ever does. i think we could do better than lou williams if we thought about it.

Reminder that Lou is another person who had been mocked and crapped on here due to being a bad d chucker. Who, in hindsight, was someone any team could've used. Another guy talked about a lot here as a target in the last year is Clarkson, who was made fun of here as well. Just pointing out, you need scorers, drivers, dribblers, creators types.
Resident Lillard truther since 2015.
