I do not agree.
Much better to grab the guy we want at 3 and enjoy developing him under team control than trade for a soon to be very expensive 2nd banana.
Why is he very expensive? He didn't even make all-nba and isn't likely to next year due to the new rules making all-nba positionless. Seriously when did Siakam somehow become overpriced? He'll be making 40-42m/year which is just fine for his skillset. Did you think you could pay a 2nd option 30 million?
Time to be realistic JRoy.
I agree. I think Pascal's next contract will be reasonable for the reasons you mentioned, and because I think his next 3-4 years will be his best. Yes he just turned 29, but he had by far his most well rounded season last year. Because he entered the league at 22 years old, he has only played 471 regular seasons games, which the number of games someone like Paul George has usually played by age 26/27. His timeline fits well with Dame's timeline.
I think Pascal's efficiency would take a huge jump with him not being the #1 option. There were nights he was forced to take a ton of tough shots because Nurse's offense was a mess and he was the clear #1 option. This resulted in bad shots, but they were ones I am sure he would've preferred not to take. I do not think it is unrealistic for him to average 25 / 8 /5 on good efficiency (60% TS) as a 2nd guy, which is worth $40 million when you factor in that he is a super switchable defender who gets to the free throw line and is a beast in transition. He was at 23 / 8 / 6 on 56.5% TS this year in a garbage offense on a team that asked him to play hero ball most nights.
Looking forward to seeing what Siakam can do this year in TOR.
