Bilal Coulibaly pick 11 plan
So word is Bilal has a draft day promise by a lottery team, which team that is isn’t confirmed. But allegedly OKC made a trip to Europe and it wasn’t for Victor sense they are picking right behind us at 12. Also picking 13 is Toronto who could value a player like him and want to grow Bilal. He’s a very intriguing prospect being only 18 years old and raw measuring in at 6’8” with a 7’2” wingspan and from what I seen in his limited stats was hitting something like 40% on threes. One thing about the front office we have is the fact John Hammond was behind drafting Giannis, could it be us that had made a promise? I don’t know how or even if Coulibaly would fit us, or even if the kid has a clear position yet as he might not even be done growing. If we did target Jordan Hawkins at 11 and felt it was safe to draft Bilal instead at 11 and force OKC ( they have a lot of draft picks next 2 seasons ) or Toronto into a deal with us it would be the Elfred Payton situation but this time we win in it. Anybody in here familiar with him as a prospect and have any thoughts or evaluations on him?

Re: Bilal Coulibaly pick 11 plan
I could see it being us, but more likely it's the Thunder. It just feels like we're likely enough to make some kind of trade with our picks, so that any sort of promise wouldn't be likely.
I like Coulibaly okay, but the hype train has gone a bit too far for me. I think he should go around the 16-20 range. He's got traits and defense on his side, but his track record of success in Europe is really minimal and you'd have to project a ton of offensive growth. His median outcome is probably something akin to Thabo Sefolosha (after like 4 years of development).
I would be disappointed if the Magic straight-up picked him at 11, but I could probably talk myself into it. It would probably be one of the highest upside swings we could do, if that's what WeHam are looking to do.

i wonder if hes a guy we could draft and stash?
You know how much weham hate having more than 1 rookie at a time, so maybe we draft him and keep him in france for a year and bring him over next when hes hopefully a little more ready?

I’m been on board wanting to get Giddey from OKC, so maybe a draft day trade involving Bilal at 11 with Fultz in exchange for Giddey. Also if it’s Toronto maybe can blow some smoke towards them making them think OKC is the team that wants him at 12. That’s only if Toronto is the team interested in him.

but why does OKC trade Giddey (who has played very well)?

Don’t know if they would but at some point they are going to be strapped with contracts. They have 5 picks between the next two years of drafting I believe, plus SGA, and Chet along with Giddey.

Since there are no long ridiculous project Centers in the #11 range, with no true basketball skills, I can believe this.

Guy has gigantic upside. I could be very happy with him at 11, depending on whom we get at 6.
If you see something suspicious, say something suspicious.

Same height/weight/wingspan measurements as Wes Iwundu. He wasn't all bad, but I'm skeptical.
One of the key traits that I tie upside to is ball handling. Coulibaly's dribbling is very rudimentary. This guy is being oversold.
I can get gigantic upside in GG Jackson much later in the draft. Dude just needs coaching sprinkled in with a little water and sunlight.

He's the guy who was Wembanyama's teammate, right?
So, it could be said that most of his looks at the basket were free and open, since Wemby was getting triple teamed?

Low floor high ceiling.
I believe it could be us.
He’ll be a project.
We’re looking to compete next year and there will be more reliance on veteran helps since its unrealistic to expect two rookies to contribute right away.
I think if we keep the pick for Bilal, the plan is more of long term. He wont see a lot of minutes next year because of the reasons above.

Re: Bilal Coulibaly pick 11 plan
I can see the intrigue. His game changed from day 1 to last game of the season.
He also has long strides. Several fastbreak attempts where he only needed 1-2 dribble front the half court to the ring. Lol
Obviously a really raw physical specimen, but I think based on what we saw throughout the year show he is a quick learner.
Still, he has a high boom or bust rate. Fortunately, I think we can afford it at this stage of our re-build when we already have two cornerstones.

Re: Bilal Coulibaly pick 11 plan
Just be aware how raw he is as a player. If you thought Kuminga looked like a project, well this guy is miles behind him in terms of development. Would be an absolute swing for the fences, which I'm not necessarily against, but just be aware he isnt the player he "looks" like in his youtube clips. He makes a few of those plays a game, and the rest of generally very average to watch.
