What do you think of calling Minnesota and offering them the elite, "IGNITABLE" 3pt shooter to space the floor for Kat + Gobert
But expiring contracts are going to be more valuable with new CBA coming... i think they will be valuable assets in a trade, for many teams looking to get under new tax rules

Riley straight up told Ira that subtle moves will be enough. Said going for the homerun right now could be catastrophic and addition by big subtraction. He’s not lying because he knows what the rules are now and what our cap looks like.

I expect at least 3 of Jovic, Cain, Bouyea and Orlando Robinson to be in the rotation next year. Especially if we get a big trade done where we lose some depth for a star.
Probably so. There will be some good vets out there to pick up as well. Pat Bev, Dragic, Crowder, Noel, Ross, etc.

Why did the owners and players agree to this new CBA? Who's really benefiting from it on either side?

The first domino is falling into place: Hornets are going for Miller.
Now the next have to fall: Portland drafts Scoot and does not trade for upgrades; Dame asks out; Dame really wants Miami; Portland FO complies with Dames wish and takes an acceptable but mabye worse offer than is out there
I'm upgrading the chance from negative zero of Dame landing in Heat uniform to almost zero.

Let it go. Dame will not be joining your franchise. He’s locked up in Portland. Focus on re-signing Max Strus.

Wonder if the Heat would be willing to take a flyer on a guy like Stanley Johnson. He’s still only 26, he has nice size, his efficiency has actually ticked up the last two seasons as well.
He seems to flame out wherever he goes though. Maybe there’s just not much there, but if we can turn 27 year old Strus and Gabe into players, maybe it’s not too late for SJ.

I remember that going back to Alonzo Mourning and Tim Hardaway. So what is your takeaway from Tuesday? – Leonard.
A: That with the new collective-bargaining agreement, it’s almost as if Pat Riley knows that it no longer is as simple as to go into free agency like a bull in a china shop, not as easy as telling General Manager Andy Elisburg to find a way. Pat’s “there are no obstacles” aggressive demeanor has run into the harsh reality that there are increasing obstacles, ones that cannot be sidestepped. The new CBA is such that the Heat this offseason might not be able to add a single free agent earning more than the minimum, including an inability, because of the new, staggered luxury-tax aprons, to be part of any sign-and-trade transactions, the very means that delivered Jimmy Butler. The new rules are draconian to the degree that we saw Tuesday that they even had Pat Riley taking stock. (For context, Riley’s “obstacles” quote came during his 2019 postseason media session, weeks ahead of finding a way to land Butler in the void of cap space, when he said, “There’s no obstacles. Well, there are tons of them, but there’s none. So we’ll try to get past them if we can to add more to the team, if that’s a possibility.”)

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/ask-ira-is-there-s-no-obstacles-no-longer-a-heat-or-pat-riley-mantra/ar-AA1cPBvP
Even before we headed into all this i was stressing how bad the cap was and kept posting the numbers for all to see to keep expectations in cheek along with 2nd apron implications. Like a poster said last night they hated me in the moment but also grateful for putting things in check for reality context. We can improve but we need to do a few gymnastics to cut some salary. Not expecting any crazy 40 mil plus super star deal when we need to fill out the roster around Butler, Bam, and Herro.
That's the issue for me... Herro and his contract with this current window. Basically because of the new CBA Miami is basically treating Herro as a max player on the fun max or better yet, Herro/Robinson as a supermax guy. For this Butler window I expect Beal will be the better player than Herro for the playoffs. This is the 2 timelines and bad contracts I keep talking about, either go all in now or go all in with your Bam and Herro future (which I don't expect to be much of a future unless you find a superstar).

pretty great question. why would they hamper themselves with these types of measures?? on the outside looking in it looks stupid unless there's a reason that only insiders knowDaffy wrote:Why did the owners and players agree to this new CBA? Who's really benefiting from it on either side?

Right, because that FO thinks Herro will be better then Booker and is treating him that way, hopefully it works out but with all the bad misses with contracts I think this is just another FO over estimating what it's own player will be. Just putting a player in a scoring role doesn't make them better, it just lets them score, we've recently saw this with Nunn, Herro and now Vincent.

The players still get their split so they lose mostly nothing, that tax money gets dispersed to the teams that weren't into the tax. This benefits the non money printing teams which is what most of the NBA is, Miami will benefit in the long term with this new CBA, just not next year.

Had to be the small market teams, specially after the Warriors won after paying like 300 mil in taxes

Lillard has no chance to win in Portland and he needs to GTFO of there and if he really asks to be here then he will.

thats so dumb..... never ever pick on "fit" when dealing with nba draft
always pick on the best talent, and if fit is redundant, find out which one is better and trade the other one for proven vet to fit
Imagine if the Heat passed up on Wade because we already had Eddie Jones on the rosterActually, that's what Pat wanted to do. He wanted to draft Chris Kaman for fit. I forget who it was, but someone else convinced him to draft Wade instead
Some people believe Brandon Miller is a better talent.

They are going to milk the crap out of this until draft night....God forbid Portland takes the #3 Pick without a trade called, the Tweet universe is gonna go def con 5 with "Lillard needs to go, should ask to go, blah blah blah, its now or never tweets".

Brandon Miller was the best college hooper last year. Scoot was playing the the G league. Not sure why it’s a crazy notion that Miller is going above. Also Miller was performing during the whole gun fiasco showing the kid has got some serious mental fortitude.
