Re: 2023 NBA Draft Thread
It's ridiculous that I am already seeing us getting dragged online for picking Miller over Scoot when the draft hasn't even happened yet AND neither guy has even touched a damn summerleague court.
If the reports are true, I'm gonna cheer so hard for Miller to succeed. Would be nice to come out the better end of a draft choice for once (GSW fumbling 2020 was such a God send). Would also be nice to shove it to the rest of the league for once.

Your Charlotte Hornets! We’ll eventually get something right;right?

If it was truly engaged then I would not want him at all. Right now I was pro Scoot but fine with Miller but who doesn't show up for a job interview of this importance and be engaged.
Mono can leave you pretty incapable of being engaged fully.
No it can leave you tired or out of shape but engaged is a mentality. It is paying attention and focusing. I had mono and it messed up a lot of stuff but not my ability to be engaged. I mean if he fell asleep on the court then sure but looking like you care is easy. If anything he should have looked frustrated and that is a type of engaged. Feeling you can or should do better would be big. I was fine with Miller but preferred Scoot but now I really don’t want the kid that is limited as an athlete and doesn’t care. If we take him I hope this was poor phrasing because otherwise it is a poor pick.
I don't think they meant engaged in that way. Just judging from what he's shown on the court in every game, I've never seen him not look "engaged". Mono can def take it out of you tho. Too exhausted to focus, etc, so it's definitely easy to come off that way.

It’s leaving us all anxious and paranoid, but it’s also likely going to bring in the best possible offers at the last minute for the pick. Vegas has flip flopped on this a bunch already, that says a lot.
I wonder how much of it is us """not leaking""" versus how much of it is us just not seeming to really have a well laid out plan ever and just winging it until the very last moment when we are forced to make a decision, heh.
Having said that, I worry with all the rumors about us taking Miller. I hope I'm completely proven wrong, but even if I am, there is just too much value in drafting Scoot to pass up on him for Miller. At least use the leverage we have to get something out of Portland or whoever else is super interested in him if we are just dead set on picking Miller (which I hope we're not). Picking Miller and essentially gifting Scoot to Portland to do whatever they want with him is leaving too much value on the table.
Considering the Duren trade debacle last year was because they ran out of time, panicked and took a deal to help the roster crunch last minute - that would not surprise me unfortunately.
I’m all in on a Zion trade now. I’d rather take on that risk than risking Miller is going to be the best pick we could’ve made. If it is Miller, I of course hope I’m horribly wrong.

I expect about a decade of Hornets getting clowned on if they pass on Scoot.

Maybe the “leaked” chatter on taking Miller is really designed to get Portland to trade up with us for him, where we take Scoot at 3 plus some asset gained. I think they’d draft Scoot but may also be open to a Zion trade for him to appease Lillard’s desire for veteran players. Both Charlotte and Portland have all-star caliber PG’s established, so how each team would integrate Scoot is a legit discussion.
Great interview article with Scoot, who will be the alpha dog wherever he goes. Personally as much as I like Miller we need this leadership (Melo is NOT a leader):

I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

Flipping out before the pick is even made just because Woj said we're taking Miller makes no sense to me. Save the indignation for tomorrow night and in the meantime chill out.

Yeah it's funny because even the buzz beat guys are being negative. Weird decision to get fans to not like the team you cover. People legit acting like we are taking Grady Dick because we need shooting instead of Scoot lol.
It is basically a toss up in talent, so yeah why would you not lean towards better fit if all else is equal.
People would be more excited about the pick if we picked 6th and got Jarace Walker at this point lol

A fun social experiment would be to see if fans would be having this same outrage if Scoot’s name was like Bob Jones or something

A big thing that is driving the paranoia is we've passed on multiple All-NBA/All-Star guards in recent years.
SGA. Booker. Mitchell. Will Scoot make it 4?
All because, supposedly, Miller is a better "fit".

It's 10:15 and I haven't seen a single other source stating that this presser is happening today, and nothing on the team's feeds is suggesting that it is.
Strange

Kunkel stands in the center of an empty press room, facing an empty podium, his question carefully prepared for Mitch: "How much did your faith influence your decision regarding this pick?"

Kunkel showing up for a press conference and being the only person there would be hilarious.

Still don't get the reasoning behind holding a press conference today
Balllin wrote:Zion Williamson is 6-5, with a 6-10 wingspan. I see him as a slightly better Kenneth Faried.
