Anyone who is expecting any major trade tomorrow or even a retool this off season is going to be thoroughly disappointed. They are going to run it back with the 13th pick and OPJ returning. It is most like going to be a disaster but they will pin it on darko or someone else at the end of the season.

Pascal Siakam
Speaking of All-Stars, Siakam was heavily discussed with the Blazers in talks for the No.3 pick.

Yahoo’s Jake Fischer reported Tuesday that the Blazers were not interested in either Siakam or OG Anunoby.

Some further context on that is interesting, however. Before I share that, a reminder that everyone is constantly spinning this time of year, and the truth is often a little obscured if not caked completely in mud.

With that said, there are two competing narratives on the talks. Portland has projected that they were unsure about paying Siakam a new max contract. League sources, on the other hand, have suggested that Siakam was unwilling to provide assurances he would re-sign next summer.

Regardless, with the Blazers off the table, there have been no other serious talks with the Raptors (that I’ve heard about, I’m sure there have been some). There’s a belief that the Raptors will run it back yet again. Those things can change quickly, but that’s where I believe we’re at right now.

As I previously said, assumption was always that Pascal would resign. If he won’t give that assurance, then no, Blazers aren’t giving up those assets whether it be Sharpe or #3 or Simons or whatever

Is this saying Pascal knows he's part of Portland trade talks and have had extension talks with Portland?

If so, even if we don't trade him to Portland, we may not want to keep him around if this rubs him the wrong way and we lose him for nothing next year.

His next contract will be big though, so maybe no competitive team will have the cap space to sign him outright without a S & T.

16% usage with 8 guys ahead of him.

I’d love to see him in an expanded role

I'd say that's a pretty appropriate description of Keegan. He's already 23 years old and averaged a pretty pedestrian 12/5 on great efficiency as a 4th/5th option on a playoff team. I think it's important to look at ceiling here. What are his strengths and weaknesses and how likely is it that he can improve on some of those weaknesses to become a very good player in this league? I'd say it's pretty unlikely.

He's a good player though and is a great fit on the Kings. He should continue to improve as well. But his upside is limited given his profile.

He is 23 not 33 lol

If he had better tools I’d be more excited.

I'm not trading Keegan who has 3 more years on a rookie salary for a wing that's going to be overpaid in a year.

Yep. Also said he's confident that if Portland does move the #3 pick it won't be with Toronto

"Other teams think the Raps are overvaluing their players"

chit, even I think the raps are overvaluing their players. Unable to trade a core piece and we put ourselves in a situation where we have to overpay and continue the mediocre train or lose them for nothing. I expect the same thing to happen next summer with Siakam/OG

Jake also mentioned that the Raptors have been talking to teams about moving up a couple a couple of spots and even down to the 20s...they are literally discussing everything.

Because VV is now realizing all his options for other teams are beginning to disappear.

Let him sign with the Magic

And ultimately they’ll do nothing and Masai will give his annual quote saying we tried but there were no deals to be made

I think the disconnect is raptors think they can re-sign/extend their core players so they are worth more than expirings to them. Next year if OG, FVV and/or Siakam are on long term contracts then there should be less gap between teams' valuation

Well, it appears teams are using the "crutch" of having to pay them in a year to lower their value. That said, I just think it used to be the thought process in the NBA that you were either "relevant" (see: playoff bound or trying) or "irrelevant" (not trying, blowing it up"). It used to be that being an ok team was not the same as being bad; just like being good was not the same as elite. Now those concepts have been blurred into simply cowtowing to the markets of the stronger teams.

It appears these days that teams who are "relevant" feel they are owed your pieces for nothing based only on financial valuation rather than their skill set. It's getting worse and worse. There is a good podcast about this on Raptor's Republic. Maybe I'm just an old head but I'm tired of the whining from executives about the fact that they can't put us over a barrel. My response is always, that's the way it should be. Everybody should hurt a bit from a trade or there is no fair value that has been exchanged.
