Murray is fking good.
Triple Double threat
San Antonio/Pop coaching , connection to Jak too
Maybe ATL didnt like the fit with him next to Young and want a true 4 in Pascal that can also play make / get into the lane

Again, everyone posturing and time will tell.
My guess is Portland is either asking for both Pascal and OG or Pascal and the 13th pick.
Masai might be holding firm and insisting that Pascal alone is enough value for the the #3.
OR
our offer is OG and the #13 for #3 and Portland is saying its not enough.
Portland is smoking JA grade trees laced with powder if they think they're Pascal AND OG for #3, Simons and crappy salary.

He's not a shooter unfortunately. Unless Scottie turns into Reggie Miller over the summer...spacing will be horrible.

He’s a very good player. Atlanta was a bad fit. He needs to be the primary guard again. I’d be on board if it means we don’t bring Fred back and allow Murray to be the primary PG

If they get Siakam I want Murray and the 15 or Griffin (hopefully both). We can add on our end if necessary.

What's the best you think you could get for Simons on his own?

Murray is a dog. I think his best days are still ahead.
That said, not sure having him is conducive to a ball movement offense, plus someone will remain unhappy about their touches.

But that's his downside.
No thats his backside.
Lowry's upside is mental and psychological.

It would also make sense if Portland is trying to keep their rotation players, aka simmons, and unload Nurkic and filler + #3 for whoever they are trying to get. That can be tough on a team like Toronto, unless you got a third team taking Nurkic.

Re: Portland #3 trade rumors part 2
I think I am actually warming up to an Atlanta trade involving Siakam, assuming we could have a verbal agreement with Murray on an extension.
They actually have some nice pieces in totality with Murray, Hunter, Okongwu, Griffin, and the #15 pick.

Too many moving parts, what with both Siakam and Murray needing to give verbal assurances of re-upping. I cannot see this happening.

Maybe #17, Beasley's expiring, Bamba and possibly Max Christie from the Lakers?
Bulls maybe a good fit since they have defensive guards to play next to him, but not sure what they'd offer.
Magic offence was bad, maybe #11 from them and whatever contract they want to get off?
Where's the D?

Raps trade: Pascal
Raps get: Murray, Bogdonovic, 10
Hawks trade: Murray, Bogdonovic, Capela,15
Hawks get Pascal, McGee, Bertans
Mavs trade Bertans, McGee,10
Mavs get Capela, 15.

When will we just change the name of 25 of the 30 teams to the Washington Generals?

youreachiteach wrote:Well, it appears teams are using the "crutch" of having to pay them in a year to lower their value. That said, I just think it used to be the thought process in the NBA that you were either "relevant" (see: playoff bound or trying) or "irrelevant" (not trying, blowing it up"). It used to be that being an ok team was not the same as being bad; just like being good was not the same as elite. Now those concepts have been blurred into simply cowtowing to the markets of the stronger teams.
It appears these days that teams who are "relevant" feel they are owed your pieces for nothing based only on financial valuation rather than their skill set. It's getting worse and worse. There is a good podcast about this on Raptor's Republic. Maybe I'm just an old head but I'm tired of the whining from executives about the fact that they can't put us over a barrel. My response is always, that's the way it should be. Everybody should hurt a bit from a trade or there is no fair value that has been exchanged.
Not only does this deserve an and1 but I’d go further in that no one seems to blink an eyelid that certain entitled teams, like the Lakers and Heat, are tied to every potential free agent with their no CAP space, mediocre picks and random assortment of overhyped roll players but when the weird, quiet, northern team is willing to discuss its all-defence/all-star/all-NBA level players we’re…overvaluing them/ are hard to negotiate with.
My second gripe is that folks are so willing to throw one of the objectively most competent front offices under the bus because they won’t make big “win now moves” when we, the uneducated fan base, thinks they should. I don’t think that gives Bobby and Masai a 100% free pass but least we remember the Colangelo years with the burner accounts and knee jerk reactions that put the Raps on a financially and asset poor treadmill for years. The fact we have highly thought of real NBA players who “want” to remain with the Raptors is still a relatively new reality for this franchise but now we’re pissed when they want to resign because there’s something shinier over there.
Masai has shown in both Denver (Carmelo) and Toronto (Kawhi) that he’ll push all his chips in but only when it makes sense and is an obvious win for the team! How many other franchises can say that and instead hold on to long i.e. Blazers, Wizards etc!

I’d much rather Siakam than Murray and the 15th pick. Murray makes our spacing even worse and needs the ball in his hands to be successful. He solves none of our issues other than removing our over-crowding at the wing albeit by taking out our best player at that position.
We shouldn’t be making trades just for the sake of making trades.

There is no good option at this point. You could dump Pascal and OG but you'd be very underwhelmed by the return, based on what the reporting by Fischer, Givony, etc. If it is true that Pascal's camp were noncommittal on signing an extension with a team that trades for him...then Pascal absolutely has a say in this and he wants to stay...at least until he signs a supermax extension (which we should not be offering).

I think this is our fallback, Fred is gone trade. If Fred stays, Pascal probably stays and we move OG...maybe to Detriot for #5 and Bogdonovic. Problem is we need word that he's returning from Fred to make a move at the draft so probably not.
