Re: Official 2023 Wizards OFFSEASON Thread
They didnt get called the "Big 3" in DC , but they have become the "Big 3" in the offseason in everyones desire to add them to their teams. Beal will be on a team that will probably give Denver their biggest challenge in the Western Conference . He went for nothing ...... Kuzma is not going to resign with the Wizards ,he'll go for nothing to another team that will compete in the playoffs. ...... KP will opt in and maybe be the only Wizard that brings in some young talent or draft pick.
What an emarrassment and failure the Wiz have become in their firesale for shiny pieces for very little return.

The Wizards may be historically bad next season, but they will play their hearts out.
Looking forward to guys stepping up.

Re: Official 2023 Wizards OFFSEASON Thread
Doesn't mean much but the salary cap is set to $136 million. Wizards are currently at $126.1 w/out factoring in the first round pick salary. Obviously there are cap holds, but it's somewhat interesting. This assumes a KP opt in and Paul gets the full salary.

Even now the Wizard lack a quality PG.
Well... I suppose he isn't likely to be with us when the dust settles, but don't tell me you think CP# is not "a quality PG."
He is the best PG in the history of the league.
Certainly since Bob Cousy.
Bettter than Magic or Curry?
Those are the only two PGs in the history of the league who would be competitive with him. Or, at least Magic is -- & maybe he even proves me wrong; maybe Chris Paul is only the 2d best PG in the history of the league behind Magic.
Is Chris Paul better than Steph? I.e. comparing the 2 players on their whole careers? Yes, he is.

FYI, we'd be at around $20 million in cap room assuming the KP goes through and we get back Morris, Preston and Gallo and we pick up Paul's contract.

Who even has that to give to him lol. Ironic enough unless a bad team with cap space gives him 30 mill. The only path to that would have been to opt in and stay here so we had his full bird rights.no contender is gonna have that kind of cash to spend on Kuzma.80sballboy wrote:?s=20

I’m ready for the rebuild!
Making extreme statements like "only" sounds like there are "no" Jokics in this draft? Jokic is an engine that was drafted in the 2nd round. Always a chance to see diamond dropped by sloppy burgular after a theft.

I'm already starting to envision the alternative route, of extending Porzingis, letting Kuzma walk, keeping Brad, and just drafting Coulibaly at 8, and still making whatever deal with the Lakers/Clippers sending them Monte Morris to pickup Podziemski with another mid to late 1st.
Although I am enjoying this full teardown, people have been assuming we can draft really well all of the sudden, and take advantage of all these late round picks, but again, Presti is/was the genius behind OKC's drafting, we have no idea about Dawkins. All of the other Presti guys went on to do a terrible job and get fired/will soon be fired.
We just picked up pick #30, this organization just recently used pick #31 to take Isaiah freaking Todd. Imagine trading Porzingis for Isaiah Todd. Let's hope these guys can draft better.

Re: Official 2023 Wizards OFFSEASON Thread
Tipping your hand at the full rebuild just made the entire league collectively realize that they can lowball the wizards in any and every deal. The handling of the NTC/Beal trade was some terrible optics. Players around the league were scoffing at the return.
I understand the sense of urgency to tear it down and rebuild before the 2023 draft if you're bringing in a handful of added lottery/1st round picks, but so far, they have added #30, and that is IT.
It's been a bizarre start to this thing, but I am happy with seeing some actual direction for once.

Re: Official 2023 Wizards OFFSEASON Thread
At this point it looks something like this?:
8th pick, 30th pick, 42nd pick & 59th pick.
If so, I guess one of Morris or Wright will be moved. Or possibly both?
What am I missing? Someone get waived or additional trades?
Code: Select all
Paul Morris Wright
Kispert Shamet Davis Coffey
Avdija
Morris Gallinari Gill Cooks
Gafford Huff
8th pick, 30th pick, 42nd pick & 59th pick.

Respectfully, nat, that's wrong on both counts. The fact that a complete rebuild was on tap could not have been more obvious -- it couldn't have been avoided & the fact couldn't have been hidden. Everybody knew it was coming.
&, forgive me, if you think you understand doing business in this context as well as Michael Winger does -- so that you would be able to point out a tyro error of the kind you've invented -- well, come on amigo.... I've been in the business world for the better part of a half century. I've started firms, run firms, worked high up in firms, blah blah blah (believe me I'm not bragging: there are guys who can run circles around me!) -- & with all that I sure as h#ll don't have any special perspective on what Winger is up to. Believe me, Nat, you don't either. That's not meant harshly -- not at all! -- but just as simple fact.
We aren't being low-balled on KP -- we're selling him for a whole lot more than he cost us! That's called making a profit. As for Brad...
NatP4 wrote:The handling of the NTC/Beal trade was some terrible optics. Players around the league were scoffing at the return....
Nah. Not that it would matter, but... still nah.
For starters, "players around the league" are outstanding at basketball but by & large haven't had the kinds of experiences that make them knowledgeable about business.
Of course, you may mean agents. But, if so, that's incorrect too. Anyone with business experience & daily business activities to manage would understand instantly that we were going to get very very little for Bradley Beal.
In fact, ceteris peribus, anyone who's been in business has found himself in this very same position from time to time. We had no leverage. Brad held all the cards.
Winger did as well as was possible. Indeed, as I've written in another thread, this was a good trade not a bad one. You may disagree, but I wonder whether you've really thought it through from a business perspective.
Start with this fact: I'm a GM of another franchise, thinking about trading for Brad -- what's my first thought? "Wow, look what he's doing to those guys. & if he comes here with that contract, f^xk, he'll be able to do the same thing to me! No thanks!" You notice that in the end Miami didn't make an offer, right? That's why.
Phoenix is being by run by an amateur -- i.e. its new owner. Perfect!
Let's watch together to see how the Suns do this season: I'm pretty sure they'll be worse than last year; I'm quite sure they won't be better!
NatP4 wrote:I understand the sense of urgency to tear it down and rebuild before the 2023 draft if you're bringing in a handful of added lottery/1st round picks, but so far, they have added #30, and that is IT....

Again, you may differ. If so, why don't you explain a way -- any way -- to have gotten a dime more in value by trading Brad than what we got. But, be specific: to whom & for what in return? You won't come up with anything.
NatP4 wrote:It's been a bizarre start to this thing, but I am happy with seeing some actual direction for once.
It's been a great start, & I'm glad you're happy. I am too.

Re: Official 2023 Wizards OFFSEASON Thread
By the time we are done trading away our current pieces, we will be left with a very young group. Current ages of the (still as of now) Wizards:
Gafford - 24
Avdija -22
Davis - 21
Kispert -24
Dotson - 23
There will be some players on the way in who are older, CP3, Morris, and a few others. There will be some new drafted players who will be 22 or younger. Overall, this is going to be a very young team.
