Boston is in a win now situation, so getting back a 19 year old teenager for Brown doesn’t make too much sense.

But Brown to Portland (can throw in one of those new 1st round picks BOS just got if Brown by himself isn’t good enough), #3 and cap to NO, BI to Boston. Everyone is happy. Portland gets a star vet to go with Dame. NO gets Scoot who they really want. Boston gets to avoid the Supermax to Brown and they get some more playmaking.

I will speak this into existence!!! (Plus I think it’s a pretty solid trade all around)

I like Derrick as the starting 1 if this is the next step. He's tough on D and doesn't take bonehead tunnel vision hero shots. Great at P&R and finding mates as a first responsibility.

Smart wasn't much of a point guard though. He's a great defender but his facilitation leaves much to be desired. He's put all his brain cells to defending and not into thinking on the offensive side.

But that tells you how bad the Celtics are at that spot in terms of playmaking. They have needed a pass first PG for a long time and need one even more now.

Still made out like bandits value wise but not sure if it'll carry over to the court.

Pass first PGs are a thing of the past in today's NBA. There are only a few at the moment (Lowry, Chris Paul and Ball maybe? Lowry and Paul are available but that's gonna break the cap rules for Celtics.) And Smart just not developing that facilitating skills meant that he became disposable in this situation when the haul is great. Tatum is growing his facilitation skills and maybe Stevens figured between him and Brogdan that's enough for them. Of course we will see if Brogdan will still be dealt with.

But they do need a facilitator. That offense was friggin ugly in the playoffs. Holy christ.

Late first round picks don’t have much value.

New CBA with the salaries structured for Boston the way they are the value of these picks will probably be high.

Fair but in general most late first round picks don’t even see their second contract

This isn’t the NFL where there are multiple rounds of good players

They moved up from #35 to #25 tomorrow night. And got a 2024 GSW FRP protected (1-4) which is a wildcard.

Did the Grizzlies stole Clippers thunder? This is Brogdon to Clips, Morris to Wizards earlier. Did they scrap that now and Brogs stay with the Celtics for now? How the hell does Celtics got Porzingis + 2 First Round Picks for someone like Marcus Smart who have a rep of bad attitude and throwing shades to his teammates.

Smart is so overrated. He is the most vocal team member, and he brings energy. His man-to-man defense is very overrated. He looked lost at times during the playoffs, and got torched at some points. He is a great team defender, but even that seems to be declining. He is very sticky, and most of the time he is a liability there. White earned that starting spot.

Celtics might need a leader to replace him, and maybe they will get CP3. I don't think Boston is done

Yes he wasn't much of a point guard, and he was still by far their best one. Shows how much they were hurting in that area. Smart was their most willing floor general/distributor and most reliable ballhandler. Now they have zero.

Brogdan is better facilitator than Smart.

Celtics need a point guard that will get KP the ball because we all know Yayson and Jaylen wont get him the ball

Tatum was averaging 6 assists a game in the PO. Brown cannot pass though. We have White.
Good assessment:

I went the other route in my previous post on this.

I think if Scoot goes to PDX and they keep him then maybe that opens the door for Brown and the picks from the Smart trade go to Portland for Damian Lillard as Portland would then be in a rebuild teaming Brown with Scoot and Sharp along with the picks to rebuild while BOS now goes all in with Dame Tatum KP.

I like the deal for all sides but how the hell did the Wizards NOT get that 25th pick and let Boston move up 10 slots to receive their 35th instead?

The Celtics seemed hell bent on trading Brog or Smart for KP, I think the Wiz could have held out. Smart for KP and a FRP is still a great deal, moving up in this draft makes it beautiful. Brads putting in some good work as GM. What an amazing turn of events for the starting Pg of the Celtics, Derrick White!!

Wizards with Paul, Tyus, Monte and even Delon makes me jelly. Our team needs one to poach one.

It's the other way around.

Celtics get:
Damian Lillard

Blazers get:
Malcolm Brogdon
Derrick White
Danillo Galinnari
any young players of Blazers choice
Unprotected Draft Picks and swaps

Smart is overrated.

Having said that, they will now need Porzingis and Brogdon to stay healthy, and I'm not sure they can do that. It's a risky move, but interesting.

The issue with this in my opinion is. I highly doubt Brown sticks around for a rebuild in Portland. Plus if I were to go the rebuild route if I’m Portland. Give me back as many high end picks or high level guys on their rookie deals. Get another elite young player to pair with Scoot moving forward.

Not gonna lie, as a Laker fan this feels like a win. CP3 to the Celtics feels inevitable.
